本書的問世,緣於2017-18年,鐘基立博士在MIT作為史隆學者時期,與來自三十多國、上百位政、商、學界領袖精英的對話。
由於鐘博士的豐富閱歷,國際同僚經常請益,探討有關中國科技創新的現狀。同僚在彼此學習中,也常針鋒相對激烈辯論,但最終,都在鐘博士旁徵博引下,得到滿意的啟發與洞見,形成更寬廣的視野,從全球格局中,看待中國科創領域發展對世界的影響。
頻繁的互動讓鐘博士發現,國際精英對中國的認識與真實現狀間,普遍存有落差;特別是,對於中國創新生態系的近況,幾乎毫無所知。
其原因有三:首先,近年中國創新環境發展極快,有時連國內精英也未能與時俱進。其次,領域中的專家,大都孜孜不息地服務於經濟發展,少有餘暇以道地的英文,將現狀介紹給國際讀者。更重要的是,眾多的國際精英,面對各類雜遝資訊,缺乏簡單有效的分析架構,自主篩選、消化資訊,形成自己的觀點。這就猶如失焦的望遠鏡,不論如何專注,總是霧裡看花,無法看清遠方。
