留給在海外子孫後代的家族記憶
在中國，盧姓已經有兩千多年的歷史。祖先源遠流長，隨著社會的變化，或因天災，或因人禍，人口的輾轉遷徙，是很自然的事。我們家族早年先輩定居於山東省，後南遷到江西省。元朝（1271-1368）末年，吾祖轉移湖北省，從此在故鄉天門一帶代代相傳，綿延不斷，我（業）輩是在湖北先祖公允公的第二十世後代。詳情可以從《盧氏宗譜2013年版》的版本中查到，這套宗譜已被湖北武漢『湖北省立圖書館』收藏。我是該版本的編輯委員之一。
我的祖父盧成瑜，生於一八六二年農曆十一月二十九日，排行第二。於一九四五年農曆九月二十四日謝世。祖母李氏，生於一八六三年，農曆九月十五日，卒於一九二一年，農曆十一月八日。他們一生都生活在故鄉，湖北省天門縣(市)。育有兒女盧先喜(女)，盧先文，盧先熙，盧先永，及盧兆麟等五人。我父親是他兄弟中最小的。先父母盧兆麟（1900-1978）和裴文英（1902-1973），於故鄉天門，育有我們姐弟五人﹕姐姐盧業芳，大哥盧業鑣，二哥盧業偉，盧業裴 (作者)，和么弟盧業竑。在古老的中國，人民總是生活在社會不安的貧窮環境中。二十世紀的中國，從腐敗的滿清政府開始，辛亥革命，中華民國建國，隨即軍閥割據，抗日戰爭，國共內戰。外侵內患而造成國家社會的大動亂，幾乎佔了整個世紀。當我於一九三五年在故鄉出生之後，生活環境更加惡化。
在退休後的歳月裡，我漸漸地寫了一些家裡過去值得記下而有義意的故事，目的是要留給在海外生長的子孫後代。我很快就發現要把家中百餘年來，在中國大陸，台灣和美國三地錯綜複雜的生活故事，用簡單的方式，傳給在海外生長的後代，談何容易？多年來，我一直在思考如何能留給他們一件（僅限一件）有關家族記憶的紀念品。經過長期的思考，最後決定用電子書的方式，記述一個很平凡的中國家庭，在大動亂環境中的真實故事。該電子書文圖（照片）並茂，記敘以父母，姐姐和兄弟為中心的各個家庭的相關故事。其中包括文章（是中文和英文雙語的）和與文章相關而有紀念性的珍貴照片，兩本有關家中故事的書（中文版和英文版各一），和五十幾個記載家中故事的幻燈秀（配有音樂的）！值得我興奮的是，這本電子書的管理人是我的三個念中學的孫輩兒女！

Summary
In China, our family name, Lu, began more than 27 centuries ago. Later, our ancestors moved south due to various reasons of natural disasters or man-made calamities. At the end of Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), our ancestor, Gong-yun Lu, relocated from Jiangxi Province to the neighboring Hubei Province. Since then, generations have settled in Tianmen, our hometown in Hubei. My generation “Yeh” is his 20th generation descendant. The details can be found in the published “Lu Family Registry 2013 Edition”, collected by the Hubei Provincial Library in the City of Wuhan, Hubei in China. I was one of the Editors.
My grandfather, Chen-yu Lu (1862-1945) and his wife (1863-1921) had a daughter and four sons. My father was the youngest among his siblings. My father, Chao-ling Lu (1900-1978) and my mother Wen-ying Pei (1902-1973) raised us, also a daughter and four sons. I (Yeh-pei Lu) was the fourth child (the third son) in the family. Until then, our ancestors’ lives in Tianmen, generations after generations, were typical, i.e., poor and difficult. At the turn of the twentieth century, China was still in the hands of the imperial Qing Dynasty government. In 1911, the revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen finally succeeded in overthrowing the corruptive Qing Dynasty, and the Republic of China was born. In subsequent years, the Chinese government was exhausted in fighting wars against the Chinese War Lords. When I was born in 1935, things had changed for the worse. Soon, China faced the imminent war against the Japanese aggression at first for eight years and fought the Civil War with Chinese Communists right afterwards. Chaotic situations in the nation had lasted for most of the twentieth century.
In my retirement years, I wrote many family stories in the past. The purpose was to leave our family memories to our descendants as much as I could. In addition to the writing of much involved and rather complicated stories themselves, I soon found out that one of the difficulties was how to wrap them up together in a simple and presentable format. For years, I have contemplated on how to leave them one and only one item of family memories. This only item should describe true stories of an ordinary Chinese family which was transformed in my generation from a traditional family on China Mainland, via Taiwan, to a family now living in various places in the United States and the United Kingdom either involuntarily or voluntarily by wars and other world events.
I finally came up with an e-book concept for the presentation. It covers life experiences of my grandparents, my parents, all of my siblings and their families during the turbulent era. Selected article texts (in both English and Chinese, but not directly translated) with memorable photos, two books of family stories, and more than fifty relevant family slideshows (with music) are systematically presented. I am thrilled to note that this e-book is now under the guardianship of my three teenage grandchildren.
