The atom itself is composed of three particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. These particles are further made up of sub-particles that form the basis of their existence. Protons carry a positive charge, while electrons carry a negative charge. Neutrons, on the other hand, have no electrical charge and are considered electrically neutral. The overall charge of an atom depends on the balance between the number of protons and electrons it possesses. If the number of protons and electrons is equal, the atom is electrically neutral.
