The Handshake
Following an interview meeting; Howard (H) and Wesley (W) discuss Dave’s (D) chances of getting the job.
Wesley: Well..? What’d you think of Dave? He didn’t get off on the right foot with a handshake like that, did he? I mean, his hand was weak and limp. I wasn’t sure if he was alive or not.
Howard: Actually, I think he has a lot of experience and he could be a great asset to our team even though he’s been between jobs for quite a while now.
Wesley: I don’t, Howard. I usually am a good judge of character and when someone shakes my hand like that, I usually don’t trust them in some way. I’m just not sure about him.
Howard: Is this your gut feeling that’s telling you this? I felt like his first impression wasn’t too bad.
Wesley: Maybe I’m overreacting but you know I always say, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
Howard: That’s true, however, on the flip side he does have excellent problem-solving skills and he will bring a breath of fresh air into our department. So, I am going to make the call on this one and hire Dave. I will have Mary in HR do the necessary paperwork.
Wesley: Okay, that’s fine but don’t come crying to me in 6 months’ time when he screws us over.
Howard: Trust me on this one, I got your back!
