Kaidan experiences his first homecoming football game at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on the campus of South Carolina State University. Everything excites him, but Sanchez, the bulldog mascot, mesmerizes him. Kaidan desires his own Sanchez and devises a plan in hopes of acquiring a bulldog. Can Kaidan prove his responsibility to keep a pet and make his big SC State dream come true? This book introduces children to South Carolina's only public Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Oh, To Be a Bulldog also teaches children to make college plans early, as well as the importance of working hard and accepting responsibility. This book is a 5-Star Readers Favorite and an AfricanBookstore.net Bestseller. 5-Star Readers Favorite ReviewOh, To Be A Bulldog, written by Sonia Cunningham Leverette and illustrated by Neel Solanki, portrays a young boy named Kaidan, an only child who goes to a homecoming game where he sees an English Bulldog and genuinely falls in love with the breed. Kaidan greets the dog and begins asking his parents if he can have an English Bulldog of his own. His parents explain to him about the responsibilities involved in being a pet owner and the responsibilities he must fulfill to earn the privilege of having a dog. Kaidan does everything he is supposed to do and is permitted to have the pet he longs for. How will Kaidan respond to being a new pet owner? Will the responsibility prove to be harder than he thought or will it be everything he dreams of? How will Kaidan and his new companion grow and learn together? Oh, To Be A Bulldog is a beautiful, short children's story with images that have some wonderful details to lend meaning to the story. I love how Leverette has written this story with a very strong plot that will help children learn that owning a pet takes passion and is a huge responsibility. My favorite thing about the story is how Leverette intertwines her obvious love and passion for her home state of South Carolina into the story and how Solanki corresponds the meaning with the wonderful art. The characters are very realistic with realistic behavior as the parents instruct Kaidan to be responsible and earn the privileged he desires. I recommend this story to parents, children's reading circles and anyone who has children because Leverette sends a meaningful message about the responsibility of being a pet owner.

Progeny
As a child growing up in Philadelphia, I always wondered what I wanted to be when I became an adult. I had watched so much television depicting African Americans having menial job positions. Then I began to realize that the answer was right in front of me. It could've bitten me if it was a snake. I also watched many programs on television showcasing African American men and women in the sports industry and also as actors and actresses. As I became more of age, I began to see members of my community practicing medicine, becoming writers, and becoming scientists, including many of them involved in the political arena of government. Later, I came to the realization that my community was involved in all aspects of the job force in the United States. I always wanted, at some point in my young life, to become a firefighter. That dream became a reality at age eighteen. I also became a poet, musician, and history interpreter. I also came to realize that if a young person set his or her mind to it, he or she could become anything he or she wanted to be. That is the point of this book-to show young African American children, both male and female, that with imagination and creativity, they can become whatever they want to be if they have the desire to do so, with the support of family, friends, and others.

Ethics
With an emphasis on character traits such as honesty, gratitude, and responsibility, "Ethics: An Early American Handbook" calls attention to the critical importance of character development and the role of well-formed conscience in making morally sound decisions. An understanding of the principles of ethics was never more needful than it is today. Children and adults alike will benefit from this reprint of an 1890 textbook on ethics. Written by Jacob Abbott, "Ethics: An Early American Handbook" contains the lessons that parents once used to instill moral principles in the hearts and minds of their children - in the days when Americans were renowned worldwide for their honesty and trustworthiness. Chapter titles include: Truth - in which you will find out five ways people lie, and why each should be avoided. Profanity - why it is not only offensive, but dangerous. Obedience - why this unpopular virtue is so necessary. Conscience - why you will never be happy if you have a troubled conscience. Conscientiousness - why it's vital to do the best job you possibly can. Forgiveness - the three reactions you can have to being wronged, and why it's so important to forgive. Additional chapters in "Ethics: An Early American Handbook" focus on the topics of industry, honesty, fidelity, justice, politeness, gratitude, benevolence, purity, repentance, treatment of enemies, and duty. (Duty to God, duties to parents, duties at school, duties to playmates, and even duties to animals!) Parents should read this classic aloud to their children and discuss it with them. This book will hopefully inspire citizens of all ages to improve their own character, which will ultimately improve the character of our whole nation.

A - Z For the Little Stock Investor In Me
It's NEVER TOO EARLY to teach FINANCIAL LITERACY.In a 2013 interview with CNBC Money, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and billionaire investor Warren Buffett was asked what he thought was the BIGGEST MISTAKE parents make when teaching their children about money. The legendary investor replied, "Sometimes parents wait until their kids are in their teens before they start talking about managing money - when they could be starting when their kids are in preschool." The truth is your child doesn't need to inherit a large sum of money obtain wealth! Teaching kids at an early age about saving, investing, and the concept of money can help them develop healthy money habits which will enable them to create their own path to wealth later in life. This book was written to foster conversations about money and finance between you and your little one that may have otherwise gone unspoken. Imagine how different your life might look if your parents taught you about money, investing, and the power of dividends. It's never too early to start talking about money! A is for ASSET "Assets are the things that you own, like your toy car, toy boat, toy house or toy phone. Each of them has value, some more than you know."One of the best methods to encourage young readers is through POETRY.Through poetry, early readers learn about sound, develop a sense for speech patterns and rhythms, and build/strengthen tongue and lip movement necessary for speech. Poetry and rhyming is also an effective tool that helps children broaden their vocabulary through the pairing of similar sounding words, such as "chair" and "air", which also introduces them to phonetics. Children with mild to moderate speech delays benefit tremendously from hearing poetry as opposed to traditional stories with non-rhyming content. "Poetry is "almost perfect" for helping children struggling with sounding out words. "It helps kids develop an awareness of language fundamentals... it's fun and a little different, kids learn without realizing it". - Tim Rasinski, Professor of Literacy Education at Kent State University "A children's poem brings the body into language through strong beats and sounds that evoke their sensory referents." and "...helps children manage their sensory environments, map and regulate their neurological functions...". - Karen Coats, Director of the Center for Research and Children's Literature at Cambridge UniversityReading and Rhyming Develops Creativity in Children Encourage your child to create, to rhyme, and visualize the world as they see it! Rhyming takes the pressure out of reading and creates a fun experience for the student reader and the teacher! The natural rhythmic nature of poetry makes it easy to introduce new, unfamiliar words into your child's vocabulary. Poetry teaches children about pitch, voice, voice inflections, and volume. Lead by example, let your personality shine through and encourage your little one to do the same, This book was developed by a Family Nurse Practitioner with YOUR family in mind and little one at heart.

What I Want To Be
We all love to dream. We keep on chasing our aspirations. Some of us know the secret and stay focused to their goals. For some, the journey keeps them going. Some may accomplish much wider goal, some may just focus in a very smalli horizon. They all work hard to bring smile to others. Ultimately everyone is a hero - a hero to parent, siblings, spouse, children, friends, society, even to a nation at times It is just that the scale of their aspirations may be different depending on the surrounding and situation. Every example of good work spreads, motivates others and the action gets multipied leading to magical change in our society. We chose to be who we are! We chose our future! What remains is a journey, experience and memory.
