Welchen Zweck verfolgen wir mit asthetischen Urteilen, wie z.B. "Das ist schon"? Drucken wir damit nur unsere Begeisterung aus oder schreiben wir Gegenstanden objektive, von uns unabhangige Eigenschaften zu? Konnen asthetische Urteile wahr oder falsch sein, und falls ja, gilt der jeweilige Wahrheitswert dann allgemeingultig oder muss er in gewisser Hinsicht relativiert werden? Das Buch ist der Aufgabe gewidmet, Fragen dieser Art zu beantworten. Sprachphilosophische Fragen in Bezug auf asthetische Urteile lassen sich allerdings nur dann prazise behandeln, wenn man sie um metaphysische Analysen asthetischer Eigenschaften erganzt. Es wird daher eine kombinierte Theorie asthetischer Urteile und Eigenschaften motiviert, im Detail ausgearbeitet und gegen Angriffe verteidigt. Die Theorie verbindet Elemente einer Doppelsprechakttheorie - nach der wir mit asthetischen Aussagen simultan beschreibende und expressive Akte ausfuhren - mit einer reaktions-dispositionalen Charakterisierung asthetischer Eigenschaften. What do we mean by uttering aesthetic judgements, such as "This is beautiful"? Are we merely expressing our enthusiasm, or do we rather describe objects as having properties that are mind-independent and objective? Can aesthetic judgments be true or false, and if so, does their respective truth value apply universally and absolutely, or must it be relativized in some way? This book is dedicated to the task of answering these kinds of questions. Answering such questions with respect to the meaning of aesthetic judgements also requires providing a metaphysical analysis of aesthetic properties. The book thus sets out a detailed account of both aesthetic judgements and aesthetic properties and defends this "combined approach" against various objections. The theory combines elements of a double-speech-act-theory, according to which voicing aesthetic statements involves performing two speech-acts simultaneously - an assertive act and an expressive act - with a response-dispositional characterization of aesthetic properties.
