內容簡介
A doorway into a vanished era, The Best Short Stories Of 1920, And The Yearbook Of The American Short Story opens a window onto a world where cities hummed with possibility and small-town life carried its own quiet drama. This is more than a short story collection; it is a map of vintage american fiction, a carefully curated early twentieth century anthology that threads urban and rural america into a single, indispensable volume. Edward J. O'Brien gathers voices from american literary magazines and public life, offering a cool, humane lens on american society in fiction. The tales illuminate postwar perspectives and the daily weather of 1920s america, revealing both the energy of progress and the tenderness of everyday struggle. For readers and researchers, the collection functions as a teacher classroom anthology in spirit, a durable resource that speaks to both casual readers and classic-literature collectors. Historically, the book marks a pivotal moment when American writers experimented with form, tone, and social observation. Its restoration honours those authors and their readers, preserving a cultural treasure for today and future generations. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, it is more than a reprint - it is a collector's item that invites rediscovery of midwest america fiction and the broader currents of american literature. A true classic american anthology for any library.
