Dr. Chase Thornfield is making a fortune by charging premium price for basement quality implants and crowns. He and his two accomplices enjoy yearly vacations in top vacation resorts while many of his patients suffer and need additional care.
Ezra realizes what is going on and reluctantly decides that he must take action so that patients are not harmed.
His actions are driven by his personal morals and his contact with a recent patient.
He shares his concern with Alex Evercrest to see whether the doctors actions as illegal.
He meets Dr. Ava Whitlock and not only falls for her but realizes that she thinks that Dr. Thornfield's implant practice is illegal.
Ezra also crosses wires with the ex of one of his dental hygienist and gets into a fight that causes him to fear for his life. He now faces two potential threats to his life.
Alex takes on the case after Fiona and her partner Zia get into a fight with her ex and they both end up in the hospital.
Alex is in a cleanup mode that takes her to Chicago where she get attacked by an mafia adversary. The attack has nothing to do with either case but adds to the complexity of arresting Dr. Thornfield's accomplices. She focuses on solving the two cases at hand but intends to take on the Mafia boss at a later time.
The second accomplice located in Texas mistakenly thinks that confronting Alex with a double-barreled shot gun is a solution. He learns that it is a quick way to the afterlife.
Alex returns to Cincinnati, arrests Dr. Thornfield, has him charged with money laundering and tax evasion as well as with bodily harm, and pain and anguish of his patients.
She also arrests Jason Gravely for premeditated murder intent of his ex-wife and her partner.
Alex is given as surprise roast for not only having solved the two Cincinnati based cases but for also having the Chicago mafia boss charged with money laundering and with the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
She deflects the praise and puts Johnnie forward as the one that has the "Magic Touch" that lets her solve her cases.
