The River Styx

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with enchanted worlds. . . .

My Oma had a garden that would speak to any child's imagination. There were little forest paths through pine trees opening up into a quaint picnic area.

Here, Opa had made seats out of tree stumps and we would enjoy tea parties with our cousins. Later we would run the windy paths going through flowers, mossy grasses, a veggie garden and a beautiful hedge of rhododendrons.

There was an extra building where we were allowed to play dress-up. Using Oma's old heels, hats and dresses we came up with the most elaborate outfits that our imaginations could come up with.

Oma would teach us about fairy tales and legends and the house was full of beautiful art pieces, made by Oma herself. She used photography as her medium.

She had her own darkroom to develop her photographs, to then further process into sights for the eye and imagination.

Oma's dedication to art and her creative spirit sparked a curiosity in me. Exploring and following this curiosity she had indirectly revealed the beautiful, wondrous and creative world of art. The mystery and magic of these elusive worlds became an escape in my adult life.

I found comfort and solace in creating intricate headdresses and incorporating them into photographs. It allowed me to actualize my thoughts into tangible pieces of art. Watching each character and piece come to life in front of me as a way to calm the storms and warm up the icy waters of life.

My art is meant to be whimsical, enchanting and mysterious. However; despite the sometimes desperate cry for help, they are a distraction from the pain of reality.

It allows me to envision a dark world, mix it with my creative force and express it into something beautiful, bold and colourful. The type of work I can drown in and ultimately, make peace with.

While searching and yearning for the simplicity and the magic of childhood, a wish to gain some control over a burdensome life, what I found is my own style of art and expression.

I hope it draws you closer and you are able to take a moment to listen. Allowing the art pieces to catch your attention, draw you in, blur the boundaries between the magic of our world and what lies beyond....

My artworks serve as portals to a world where anything is possible, where the worldly laws are defied, and where the power of the human spirit shines through brightly.

Through my art, I wish to remind people that within each of us lies a wellspring of creativity, waiting to be unleashed, and that there is magic to be found in even the simplest and mundane of moments.
