This collection, Transcultural Dialogue: From Slapstick to Post-Industrialism-On Chinese Science Fiction Films, presents a comprehensive exploration of the historical development, cultural positioning, representative works, and aesthetic theories of Chinese science fiction films through multi-layered and multi-perspective research. Chapter 1 reviews the history of Chinese science fiction films, particularly their evolution from slapstick to narrative films. It analyzes the cultural background of early Chinese sci-fi and its differences from Western sci-fi. Through the lens of industrialization, it discusses how technological advancements have driven innovation in special effects and set design, shaping the development of Chinese sci-fi films. Chapter 2 explores the positioning of Chinese sci-fi films within the global cinematic landscape, examining how these films integrate traditional Chinese culture with a global perspective to create a unique cultural identity.
