內容簡介
The story begins with a perilous supply run to Houston, where David and his team encounter Kris and Mark's family. Impressed by David's leadership and the family's unity, Kris makes a bold decision, asking to join their ranks. This sets the stage for Kris's integration into David's world.
Kris finds herself increasingly fascinated by David. In a surprising move, she offers herself as one of his wives, a suggestion David deftly redirects towards his son, David Junior. A tense family dinner ensues, with David Junior showing a clear interest in Kris, culminating in David's announcement of mandatory combat training for everyone.
Practical preparations, such as modifying vehicles and distributing weapons, emphasize their constant need to adapt and defend themselves. A risky ammunition raid to a Dallas factory showcases David's strategic leadership and the family's individual abilities. During this high-stakes operation, however, Kris grapples with her developing feelings for David.
Another journey south of Dallas, a scavenging mission to a slaughterhouse and supply store, highlights David's resourcefulness and the family's preparedness. The scavenging mission proves fruitful, with the family negotiating and trading with other scavengers to secure essential equipment.
Their return from Dallas is fraught with challenges, the relationships between Grace and Kyle, and Kris and David, are tested. Back at the ranch, where they are safe, family dynamics continue to evolve.
Recognizing Kris's potential, David offers her a chance to become a "probationary concubine." To prove herself, Kris must integrate into the wives' lives and routines, undergoing "protocol training" and seeking acceptance within the established family structure.
Lynn, Josh, and Lily embark on a perilous mission to find Lynn's parents. This search uncovers a trap connected to a larger plot against David and his family. A threatening invitation demands David's surrender in exchange for Lynn's parents.
