內容簡介
Jeb Alexander was from the mountains and, like most hill folk, he could shoot and ride like the wind. He was only down from his beloved Cheat Mountain for three days when he landed in the army in the middle of a war. He was a thinker, and it was not long before he reached the rank of captain.
Under the guidance of General Winchell, he proved his worth many times over as the war ground to an end. He decided to stay in the army and while he was waiting for his after-war posting, he met the general's daughter. Sophie Winchell swept him off his feet, and he was soon entrenched in the society life of Washington, which he hated.
The love between them was strong, but was it strong enough for her to follow him to far away Arizona? His posting in Arizona was in the middle of the Apache country, but for him, it was just what he wanted. It was too much for Sophie, just as Washington was too much for him, but somehow their love flourished.
He was instrumental in getting a large group of Apache to accept a peace and move to a reservation and through the years he not only learned their language but also learned to respect them. There were still wild renegades who needed to be captured, and one of them had vowed to take his life.
