7/09 Pre-trip Tips
Finally, we will go to Camino!
Dates: 9/24–11/20 — a total of 58 days.
I have been inviting people since I wanted to go in April. Most of the people just talked about it. I really wanted to book a flight to confirm, but there were too many reasons not to go. I didn’t expect that the people who finally made the trip with me would be my “hiking friends” — those who hike frequently. It turned out to be the perfect number and combination.
I suggested that since we were flying there, we could make a trip to southern France after the Camino. At first, some people were hesitant to go, but after I “reported” the scheduled itinerary to everyone, they felt at ease. I suggested on the spot that we book the air tickets first, even before everything was settled.
Everyone used Skyscanner to book flights for NT$33,385. Because of the “floating price of global bookings,” I actually spent NT$34,960 — NT$1,575 more — but that’s not a problem for me! I don’t let small problems get in the way of a bigger dream.
I booked air tickets to Madrid and back from Nice. I also booked a B&B in Saint-Jean, France, for the first two nights (9/25–26) at ?52 per person, and Orisson B&B for the first day in France (9/27) at ?46 per person.
I repeatedly reminded everyone that the weight of a backpack must be one-tenth of one’s own body weight. Just bring three changes of quick-drying clothes. One of the companions, YuPen, even dreamed of walking on the Camino and woke up laughing so hard that she couldn’t sleep. She was definitely excited! She said this would be the best gift for her retirement, and she wanted to share it with all the newly retired people.
