Matt is taking his time enjoying his holiday by himself in a famous
sightseeing spot. When he gets to an area where there are more tourists,
he finds a little boy sitting alone on a bench crying. Looking around, Matt
doesn’t find his family; he approaches the boy...

Matt Oh, I saw that he seems to separate
from his parents, so I came to see if I
could do something about it. Do I

Fountain
情境中，小男孩為了看 fountain，因而和家人走失；fountain 有時真讓人覺得不
可思議，看著水不斷對抗地心引力，往上噴出，彷彿充滿的生命力與自由意志，不
干受困作一攤死水，極欲掙脫一樣。噴泉的起源有人說早在西元前 6 世紀左右的
巴比倫（Babylon）空中花園就有使用，也有人說是希臘時代開始，但確定的是文
藝復興時代（西元 14~16 世紀）後，噴泉結合藝術與科技獲得重大發展，而 17、
18 世紀時達到巔峰時期，然而並非所有噴泉都打造得美輪美奐，也有紀念意義深
遠的小噴泉，如比利時首都布魯塞爾（Brussel）有個相當著名的尿尿小童噴泉
（Mannekin Pis，建於 1619 年），據說是紀念一名小男孩用尿尿的方式將當時法
國侵略軍炸城的引信澆熄而建造，這噴泉還曾受到法王路易十五的加封成為貴族，
路過士兵還得向他行禮；至今仍相當受歡迎，雖在小巷弄間，卻是旅客必到景點，
每到節慶小童就會穿上應景的衣服，附近商家販賣很多尿尿小童的周邊商品，如巧
克力、糖果、鬆餅等，甚至還依他的造型做出裝飲料的容器，而飲料出口的水龍頭
就是他尿尿的地方！
英文中的 fountain 不僅指的是人工噴泉，也可指自然的湧泉，此外美國黃石公園
的老忠實（Old Fathful）因為噴出的水和蒸氣是熱，這種噴泉則稱作 geyser，不
可不辯哦。
