優秀的寫作者會做完最後的校對，才將作品視為「完成」。其中一個可以改善文章的校對項目是檢查平行結構（parallel structures）。這是什麼意思？舉個例子你就懂了。首先，我提供了一個非平行結構的句子：
Children learn language through interaction and memorizing words.
這個句子看起來是不是「怪怪的」？問題出在介系詞片語through interaction and memorizing words。介系詞的兩個受詞（interaction和memorizing words）使用了不同的結構，雖然它們都是名詞。注意第二個名詞是Ving形式的動名詞。你想讓類似的成分使用類似的形式，那麼這個句子要如何改寫呢？以下是一些選擇：
Children learn language through interacting with others and memorizing words.
兒童透過與他人互動和背單字來學習語言。
或寫成：
Children learn language through interaction and memorization.
兒童透過互動和記憶來學習語言。
這樣兩個名詞的結構就一致了。下面是另一個使用非平行結構的句子：
To learn English and studying Chinese history are required in Hong Kong schools.

改寫句子的方式有很多種，譬如第一句的問題部分（my goal）可以拿出來，不要和一系列Ving的分詞（challenging、fulfilling）並列：
My goal, learning a second language, can be challenging and fulfilling.
我的目標是學習第二語言，很具挑戰性也很有成就感。
第二個句子很好解決，只要把第二個動詞改成和第一個動詞一致即可：
New Englishes are emerging in international contexts and are beginning to challenge the assumptions about a standard English.
新的英語變體在國際環境中出現，並開始挑戰標準英語的既定觀念。
第三個句子就有點棘手了，介系詞「on」的一系列受詞當中，第三個受詞以having開頭，導致不平行。我會改寫如下：
Project-based learning focuses on a student-centered environment, real life materials, and projects for both in and out of the classroom.
專題式學習著重在以學生為中心的環境、真實世界的材料，以及課堂內外的專題。
有時候你會發現不如把句子拆成兩句，即可解決非平行結構的問題：
