In Wicklow And West Kerry
In Wicklow and West Kerry captures J. M. Synge's intimate portrayal of rural Ireland, where landscape and livelihood merge into a portrait of endurance and grace. Through his travels, Synge observes the lives of tramps, farmers, and wanderers, finding in their existence a reflection of Ireland's unyielding spirit. His writing transforms the rugged countryside into a living character, revealing both its beauty and its austerity. The essays intertwine social observation with poetic insight, offering glimpses of humor, hardship, and quiet resilience among the people who inhabit these remote regions. Each encounter-whether with an aged vagabond proud of his dignity or a sickly youth striving to survive-underscores the dignity found in struggle and the harmony between humanity and the land. Synge's prose conveys a deep empathy for the overlooked and a reverence for the cultural rhythms that shape everyday life. The result is a lyrical meditation on identity, poverty, and belonging within Ireland's timeless and untamed landscape.

Day Trips and Getaways
Picture this: an early autumn day when the trees are starting to paint the landscape with vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold. The air is crisp with the faint scent of fallen leaves. And the car? Well, let's imagine a vintage convertible, a classic beauty that adds a touch of nostalgia to the journey. Then there are the bakeries and pubs. The allure of a warm, flaky pastry or a crusty loaf of bread is irresistible, as are the cosy country pubs. These places aren't just about the drinks; they're about the stories shared, the laughter that echoes off the walls, and the sense of camaraderie among strangers. Now, pair this picturesque scenery, the bakeries and the pubs with the right weather, a sunny day with a gentle breeze. In this delightful scenario, the car becomes more than just a mode of transportation; it's a companion. The purr of the engine and the feeling of freedom as you navigate your way through winding roads all contribute to the pleasure of the drive. This book will give you turn-by-turn instructions to destinations, fuel and food stops along the way, points of interest and even average temperatures to thoroughly plan your adventure! The allure of driving isn't just about getting from point A to B; it's a symphony of experiences. So, when you hit the road, consider the journey itself as the destination. Embrace the sights, relish the flavours, and soak in the moments that make driving an absolute pleasure.
Kashi Ritambhara English Version
'Kolkata resident, the new bride, shares a unique bond with her mother-in-law. Her in-law's home is in Kashi, named "Ritambhara." Holding her mother-in-law's hand, she can explore the Vishwanath Temple and traverse the waters of the Ganges, allowing her to connect with the spiritual ancient India. Kashi weaves tales of Puranas, stories, and the long-standing rise and fall of history in her mind. In the narratives, she finds the discovery of India's soul and the intellectual curiosity of Kashi's Saraswati society. The musical talent in the Banaras household, Dhrupadi, and the melodious notes in her mother-in-law's voice enchant her. It's as if the core of her being leads her to seek the nectar of the past.Suddenly, she becomes frail due to her mother-in-law's departure. In search of her mother's solace, she traverses the streets of Kashi, the Ghats of the Ganges, and the discussions of the Vedas and Upanishads. She rediscovers her beloved mother in her family's historical and religious heritage, which becomes her driving force. The word "Ritambhara" translates to "truth, knowledge, and consciousness." In the continuous shower of love from her mother's tender and affectionate heart and the profound discussions of her scholarly uncle and spiritual teacher, she is submerged. This extraordinary narrative beautifully combines family stories, the bright tales of Kashi, and travel tales, merging the author's quest for identity, reverence, and self-awareness. Alongside India's eternal culture and philosophy, it offers insight as a priceless self-discovery for a lifelong traveler.
Dirty Dancing in and Ice Storm

Grab some black bean soup where David Letterman likes to eat in the Connecticut town where The Ice Storm took place. Visit Professor X's School for Gifted Youths that you saw in those X-Men movies? Go swimming in the same quarry where the Cutters did in Breaking Away? Get a photo op in front of the Hook & Ladder Company 8 fire station that served as the headquarters in Ghostbusters? Glimpse the pool that was teaming with sharks in that James Bond movie? Visit a Hobbit hole in New Zealand? And more! My Seven Summits
There are seven summits that have captured man's imagination since they were first climbed in 1985 by Dick Bass. They are the seven highest summits on each continent of the globe. It seems easy enough to figure out which mountain would be the highest, but nothing could be further from the truth. Just because Dick Bass wrote a book about it called Seven Summits in which he proclaimed Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia and Mt. Elbrus in Russia were two of the seven summits, doesn't mean he was right, as this book is happy to explain. This is great news because it opens up a world of opportunity. It gives you an itinerary you can work with. For example, rather than climbing Kosciuszko because of its low altitude, you can trade it with New Zealand's Mt. Cook at 12,218 feet, on the outer shelf of the Australasia Continent. Or instead of climbing Elbrus in Russia, you can have the true European climber's experience in Mt. Blanc and the Matterhorn. They're only 40 miles apart.I offer you MY SEVEN SUMMITS. It's a chronological tale beginning with my first climb which was Mt. Everest in 1983; the same year Dick Bass first tried to summit Everest. What I learned from that experience is that no normal human being can pay for do-overs of the seven summits. All it takes beyond grit is time and money. It was a different story for me since my quest stretched over seventeen years before I ran out of time. After Everest there was Denali, then Aconcagua, Mt. Blanc and the Matterhorn, Mt. Cook, Kilimanjaro, and last, but not least, ...Vinson Massif? No! "A stroke is upon me." Yes, I had a massive stroke I had to survive first. There are so many stories to tell in MY SEVEN SUMMITS. Each mountain has its own theme, set to a different beat, in a different culture, about relationships forged while climbing the highest, most dangerous, and most iconic mountains in the world. What you will learn from this story is how falling in love with the Seven Summits can be the salvation of your life. Sharing in the romance feels good. Finding the right partner is sublime.

Ghana
This new, thoroughly updated ninth edition of Bradt's Ghana remains the only dedicated guidebook to this beguiling country - and the most comprehensive source of travel information about it. One of West Africa's few English-speaking nations, the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence and the world's second-largest producer of chocolate, Ghana is friendly, safe and inexpensive, making it an ideal destination for first-time visitors to the continent. Ghana is a country more about experiencing the unique and authentic than ticking off a series of boxes. Although smaller than Michigan, it is rich in little-visited national parks, forest reserves, cultural sites and scenic waterfalls, and is blessed with bleached-white beaches and lush rainforest along 340 miles of Atlantic coastline. Written by Philip Briggs, arguably the world's most experienced guidebook writer, and updated by a travel writer specialising in Africa, Bradt's Ghana guidebook provides everything you need to know to plan and enjoy your trip. Its coverage ranges from inexpensive opportunities to see wildlife to cultural and historical aspects, from the solemnity of the slave dungeons at Elmina's UNESCO-listed castle to villages near its remote and sparsely populated northern border with Burkina Faso. Twenty-two chapters across five regional sections are complemented by extensive background and practical information, plus a fully illustrated wildlife chapter. With Bradt's Ghana, you can explore the popular Cape Coast or the Ashanti region, marvel at elephants while on a walking safari in Mole National Park, join locals aboard an aging steamer plying Lake Volta (the world's largest man-made reservoir, no less), enjoy creativity at the high-profile Chale Wote Street Art festival or party night-long in the glittering Osu district of the national capital, Accra. Fresh elements of this edition include Winneba's Pan-African Heritage Museum, Zimmaziwo Snake Village, several waterfalls, Sesiamang Sisi Stone City, Mim Bour Mountains, Wariyanga mud mosque and the Sankana Chief's Palace. No matter what your interests are, this new, ninth edition of Bradt's Ghana is an unrivalled companion for everyone from first-time travellers to Africa to seasoned explorers and those spending prolonged periods in the country.
