由許哲瑜策劃，在台出版的第二本渡邊文矢作品集，從「一位木雕創作者為何創作」走向「一位木雕創作者如何與自己的創作相處」，不急於介紹創作者今年在做什麼，而是邀請你跟著我們一起在書裡散步，感受木雕創作者在往前踏出自己那一步時，累積無數的嘗試與調整，一步一步地，靠近自己。

渡邊文矢
1985年生於東京町田。成長於神奈川與岩手，2005年畢業於京都傳統工藝 大學校木雕刻科。之後進入富山井波雕刻的傳統工坊，師事井口琇月。在職人工作的歲月之中，一面學習古老技藝，一面開始慢慢雕刻屬於自己的作品。 2011年獨立後，以木雕為核心持續創作。作品曾於日本、台灣與巴黎等地發表，2019年起至今，由策展人許哲瑜策劃多次台灣個展。現居岐阜縣。
開始散步
在渡邊先生的木雕作品上，不難發現創作的主題以動物居多。在一塊木頭上，如何鑿刻出栩栩如生的生物，彷彿多了一份生命的重量，有踏實的感覺。關於作品的色彩，多半不是很鮮艷，其著色的靈感是我們一起在渡邊先生的住家附近散步時，他告訴我們的。
「雖然很少在我的作品裡，看見以植物為主題的創作。但上色的靈感是觀察植物而來的，尤其是枯枝的型態。我很喜歡觀察植物的樣子，就連人的姿態，也會從枯枝上獲得感受。」
Watanabe Fumiya
Fumiya Watanabe was born in Machida, Tokyo in 1985. He grew up in Kanagawa and Iwate, and graduated from the Woodcarving Department of the Kyoto Traditional Crafts College in 2005.
He later entered a traditional workshop of Inami woodcarving in Toyama, where he apprenticed under master carver Syuugetu Inokuchi. During his years as a craftsman, while learning traditional techniques, he gradually began carving his own works.
Since establishing his independent practice in 2011, Watanabe has continued to create works centered on woodcarving. His works have been presented in Japan, Taiwan, and Paris. Since 2019,multiple solo exhibitions have been curated by Sheu Jer-yu in Taiwan.He currently lives and works in Gifu Prefecture.
Beginning the Stroll
In Mr. Watanabe's woodcarvings, it is easy to see that animals are his primary subject. How he chisels lifelike creatures out of a single block of wood gives them an added weight of life and a sense of groundedness. As for the colors of his works, they are mostly muted rather than vibrant. He shared the inspiration for his coloring with us while we were taking a walk near his home.
"Although I rarely feature plants as the main subject of my work, my inspiration for coloring comes from observing them—especially the forms of withered branches. I enjoy observing the appearance of plants; I even draw inspiration for human postures from those withered branches."
