Roses in December is essentially a story of acquaintances, relationships, and lifelong friendships. A story told of memories of one at the later end of a large family - of the many people whose paths crossed with his, and the connection with whom helped to enrich his journey through the years - From the setting of the scene The Beginning - Momentous Years of the Ireland of the thirties and the somewhat sequestered Wicklow of his childhood to the very different Wicklow of today, told in a simple and highly readable manner.
From his vivid, if only selected, memories of his father who died when Jimmy was only five years old - and his recollections of the first days in school with Miss Wall and the sisters of the Dominican Community, on through the difficult years of family life during the second World War, to his life today in busy and reflective retirement - The End of the Journey - from the diverse occupations of his working life - and a lifetime of political involvement - to the many years of voluntary and finally to fulltime employment with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution - A Whole New Life...... .from the beginning to the final chapter, a varied and interesting tapestry of memories and events!
