Counselling is a vast topic that can take different forms depending on individual needs and what type of therapy may be suitable. As such, there are many ways of defining counselling.
Ruth Strang: definition is "Counselling is a face-to-face relationship in which growth takes place in the counsellor and the counsellee."
Harriman: define it as "Counselling is the psychotherapeutic relationship in which an individual receives direct help from an adviser, or finds an opportunity to release negative feelings and thus clear the way for positive personality growth."
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, Functional Analysis, Psychoeducation, Behavioral and Emotional, Cognitive, etc.
Counselling is characterised; by a dynamic relationship between the counsellor and the client. A process of change, development learning a formal, private and personal approach., direct and face-to-face relationship.
Counselling is a continuous process that helps the individual become self-sufficient, self-direct and self-dependent. Help an individual to make an effort to solve day-to-day problems.
Various techniques and approaches are use to treat and manage general anxiety disorder. However, CBT has been applicable in treating people with GAD effectively. (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) Additionally, it is imperative to note that if left untreated, GAD is a life-threatening condition that adversely impacts that patient.
