The Phalarope's Journey

Lloyd,Guerin  著
FriesenPress 出版
2026/01/16 出版

When Lloyd Guerin Jr.'s beloved wife and soulmate, Betty, passed away after forty-two years of marriage, grief left him searching: How could love endure beyond death? The Phalarope's Journey is a tender, courageous memoir of love, loss, and spiritual transformation. Woven from journal entries, letters, memories, dreams, and Christian mysticism, this is a deeply personal testament to a sacred partnership forged through faith, passion, suffering, and joy. With poetic grace and spiritual insight, Lloyd invites readers to walk alongside him through the mystery of grief and the unexpected moments of grace that follow. From the shared joys of family life to the heartbreak of saying goodbye, from the stillness of spiritual retreat to the revelations of butterflies on the Camino de Santiago, The Phalarope's Journey is both a love story and a soul's pilgrimage. At its heart is a call to community and an affirmation that only within the cauldron of belonging can suffering be transformed into new life. Named for the author's mythical sailboat, The Phalarope's Journey becomes both vessel and metaphor, a means of navigating the vast inner seas of memory and meaning. As each chapter unfolds, it charts new waters: some familiar, others unknown, all part of the unfolding mystery of a life shared and a soul reshaped. In tracing one man's path through grief and grace, this memoir holds a mirror to the reader's own longings-for connection, for healing, and for a love that transcends even death.

I Should Wake Before I Die

2026/01/16 出版

When linguist and educator Elisa Everts was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, she was told she had less than a year to live (spoiler alert: she's still alive). She responded by saying, "Hold my beer," called her friends, planned her funeral, and wrote her heart out-somehow managing to laugh nearly as much as she cried.Part memoir, part love letter to life, I Should Wake Before I Die is a radiant, witty, soul-stretching collection of reflections from the brink-blending dark humor, narrative insight, and spiritual wonder. Everts doesn't glorify suffering, but she does believe that it is a crucible for the sacred and that the human spirit is astonishing. From grief to gratitude, rage to reverence, this book explores what it means to die well and live better. Whether you're facing a diagnosis, supporting someone who is, or simply trying to wake up before your own story ends, these "joyful dispatches" will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even look death straight in the eye... and wink. "The shadow of death is not black; it's technicolor. I would that you, too, would suddenly see the world in technicolor 3-D... to find the miraculous in the mundane." -Elisa L. Everts, Author of I Should Wake Before I Die

The Way I See It

Despite facing the fear and frustration of falling behind in school as a little child, and stigma for being different, this is a story of love, faith, and personal triumph over fate. The Way I See It is Joseph Chan's spiritual journey to discover his life's purpose and to share the hope and inspiration that he has found with those who might also benefit from it.JOSEPH K. From Death to Life

Bud,Kolstad  著
2026/01/16 出版

Having been healthy all my life, it came as quite a surprise when at the age of fifty-nine, I was told that I had lymphoma cancer. A slow-growing cancer but still, cancer. It was quite an endeavor to overcome that, but then seven years later, an even more devastating report came in, cancer . . . again, only this time it was extremely aggressive. Cancer . . . what a dreadful word. But when you hear that word coming from a doctor and it's your report, one's reaction can move quickly, from dreadful to devastating. What happens when that news is given and how does it affect that person and their family members? This was not a journey I had planned for, yet, I and my family would not have to walk this path alone. God had given His assurance that He would be traveling with us and would be our Guide. What is the hope that we can have through such a difficult time? And better yet, where do we find that hope? From Death to Life is a true story of a living faith. "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." The story moves from a situation that: identifies a vision of Satan's intent to steal, kill, and destroy; reveals the reality of God's miracle-working resurrection power; and pressing forward with faith to break through.

A Ribbon For Your Hair

2026/01/16 出版

How do you go on when your world shatters twice? When Stephen Policoff's adopted daughter Anna was four, a freak accident landed her in the ER. Seven months and countless tests later, the Mayo Clinic delivered a devastating diagnosis-Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare and fatal genetic illness; most children with it do not live past thirteen. As Anna's illness progressed, so did her buoyant personality and love for Broadway musicals, her younger sister, and song. Then tragedy struck again when Stephen's wife Kate was diagnosed with late-stage cancer, leaving Stephen to raise terminally ill Anna and her sister alone. At once heartbreaking and life-affirming, A Ribbon for Your Hair weaves together memoir, medical intrigue, dark humor, and deep tenderness. It is about what it means to endure, to remember, and to love."Stephen Policoff is so singular in so many ways-as the first writing teacher I ever had; as a seer of the ineffable, the unbearable, and the unexpectedly comedic...a joy to know and to read. So just read him and know!"-Susan Choi, National Book Award winner for Trust Exercise"Every page resonates as Policoff tells the story of four lives, all so completely normal and yet so marvelous, until two of them are yanked out of the story forever. How do we go on? Intertwining the wonderful with the terrible, Policoff shows us that, however imperfectly, we can." -Stacy Horn, author of seven books, including The Killing Fields of East New York and Imperfect Harmony: Finding Happiness Singing with Others"A Ribbon For Your Hair is a primer on a cruel neurogenetic disorder, and on the joy of ties that bind." -Kathleen Watt, author of Rearranged: An Opera Singer's Facial Cancer and Life Transposed"Policoff is a master of observation, of humanity's frailties and foibles." -Lisa Del Rosso, California Review of Books

Clark Gable, Gone With the Wind

2026/01/16 出版

At the peak of his career, within an as-yet unmade movie that had already gripped the imagination of millions, Clark Gable was offered a leading role in a film he didn't want to make: Gone With the Wind. "It's a woman's picture," he said, "and it'll be stolen by George Cukor--that fag, the woman's director--and a bunch of dames. Besides, I hate costume dramas."Thus began his involvement in what morphed into the most profitable film, adjusted for inflation, in the history of the entertainment industry. Here it is, the inside scoop on everything to do with the most evocative film in the history of filmmaking--its players, who did what to whom, the neuroses, the backbreaking labor, and the curious mix of circumstances that--except for narratives like this from Blood Moon Productions--would have Gone With the Wind.

Everything Is Photograph

2026/01/15 出版

The first full biography of the innovative "father of modern photography" vividly depicts his life and works, from Hungary to France and America, across the 20th century. Born in Budapest in 1894, Andr矇 Kert矇sz soared to star status in Jazz Age Paris, tumbled into poverty and obscurity in wartime New York, slogged through 15 years shooting for House & Garden, then improbably reemerged into the spotlight with a 1964 retrospective at New York's Museum of Modern Art. By the time of his death in 1985, he had exhibited around the world, taken more than 100,000 images, and steered the medium in new and vital directions: He was the first major photographer to embrace the Leica, the camera now mythically linked to street photography, and he pioneered subjective photojournalism, publishing what is arguably the world's first great photo essay. Drawing on dozens of interviews, previous scholarship, and deep archival research, and interrogating the images themselves, Patricia Albers retrieves aspects of Kert矇sz's life that he and his pictures gloss over, among them the ordeals of trench warfare, the impact of the Holocaust, and the tale of his tangled romances. She takes Kert矇sz from the Eastern front in World War I to the Paris of Piet Mondrian, Colette, Alexander Calder, and a lively central European diaspora. From Cond矇 Nast's postwar media empire to the "photo boom" of the 1970s. She revisits Kert矇sz's relationships with other photographers, among them his "frenemy" Brassa簿 and prot矇g矇 Robert Capa. She breathes life into a gentle, generous, and unassuming man endowed with Old-World charm but also sputtering with grievance and rage and inclined to indulge in deception. Everything Is Photograph immerses readers in the heyday of a now lost version of photography. Formally vigorous, emotionally rich, and aesthetically charged, Kert矇sz's images speak of the medium as a tool for human connection, self-narration, self-invention, and inquiry about the world, even as they project its mysteries.

When you are there

Uwverhaal 出版
2026/01/15 出版

Leida Froklage-Zaat from Kwintsheul emigrated to Canada in May 1952. As a 24-year-old newlywed, she boarded the emigrant ship "De Waterman" with her husband Henk Froklage. She knew that "every beginning is difficult". It started on the boat: men and women slept separately, and if they weren't seasick and the weather on the Atlantic Ocean wasn't too bad, they could meet on deck. After an endless train journey through the province of Ontario, they ended up in a two-room cabin that would become their home. They fetched water from the well outside and cooked on a wood-burning stove.Yet now, at the age of 97, Leida can tell her life story without bitterness. A history of 73 years in Canada, a country she has come to love, without forgetting her own childhood and her family in the Netherlands. A history rooted in humor, music, love for your neighbors and faith.Compiling a book like this is an honorable assignment and a responsible task. I started in May 2024 and it was a search through many letters, notes, clippings and my own memories to make it into a whole. Beautiful moments from our youth came to the surface. You must make a choice from these, in such a way that it evokes recognition, emotion and sometimes surprise in the readers.Once the texts had been written, the technical part of the production began. The manuscript had to be corrected, and sometimes parts had to be rewritten. Photographs were selected to match the spirit of the story. All of this was digitally organized into files and chapters. I was assisted in this by my daughter-in-law Yvette Schouw-Olsthoorn. She and Elianne Fransen-Schouw made it possible for me to take an eight-day trip to Canada in October 2023 to visit Leida and help her sort through all the material she had collected about her life.I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of them.Poeldijk, summer 2025Nelly Schouw-Zaat

Here's a rarity-an inspiring and powerful memoir by an aunt and her nephew who have achieved a perfect harmony as people as well as writers. Through stories and poems written over the course of their entire lifetimes, the book offers their separate accounts of the unique and loving bond they formed over fifty years ago, when they were both at a low point in their lives. Her Life in Ink

Lyons Press 出版
2026/01/14 出版

Unravel the intriguing life of a woman who edited the literary greats of her day and forged a path to the golden age of mystery writing. Elizabeth Garver Jordan was renowned not only for her own writing but also for her influence in journalism and literature. Her love of intrigue started when she was five and made a secret pact with the family cook, who taught her to read. In her first career as a journalist, Jordan climbed the ranks from columnist to an editor of Pulitzer's prestigious New YorkWorld Sunday edition, where her work as an investigative journalist took her from the Bowery to the mansions of Fifth Avenue. She specialized in covering murder trials, including that of the notorious Lizzie Borden. But while the Borden trial made Jordan famous, it also led to a scandal that would follow her throughout her life. As editor for Harper's Bazar, Jordan changed the magazine into the glossy fashion publication for which it remains famous today. She also emphasized fiction, bringing Jack London, Stephen Crane, Henry James, and many suffragists to its pages. When she moved to Harper books as literary editor, she was instrumental to the successful careers of writers such as Sinclair Lewis, Dorothy Canfield Fisher, and Fannie Hurst. But perhaps the most surprising influence Jordan wielded was in the field of mystery writing, as an author herself. Although erased from histories of the genre until now, she was one of the premier American mystery writers of the early twentieth century. Like Agatha Christie, Jordan's mysteries were high-quality, innovative stories--ranging from locked rooms to country estates to gothic settings--that helped reshape the genre. Here, for the first time, the full story of her life--including her close relationship with Frances Hodgson Burnett--is finally revealed.

My Time to Stand

Benbella 出版
2026/01/14 出版

With a new preface reflecting on her life so far after prison, her true feelings about ex-boyfriend and co-conspirator Nick Godejohn, and her regrets as she stumbled in the unforgiving public eye, My Time to Stand is Gypsy-Rose Blanchard's story as only she can tell it. A victim of her mother's Munchausen by proxy and child abuse survivor, Gypsy's unique and controversial case made headlines across the world. Now, she's finally free to start living her life on her terms. Forced to use a wheelchair in public and endure a lifetime of faux illness, fraud, and exploitation, Gypsy was subjected not only to her mother's medical, physical, and emotional abuse, but deprived of childhood milestones. Prevented from attending school or socializing, Gypsy's formative years were defined by pain and isolation. After serving eight years in prison for the role she played in her mother Dee Dee's murder, Gypsy is embracing her fresh start--and reminding all of us that it's never too late. In this revelatory, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful memoir, Gypsy shares the painful realities she grew up with and the details of her life that only she knows, including memories of her final days in prison, how it felt to finally see her family again as her authentic self, and what she learned upon reviewing her own medical records for the first time. Featuring Blanchard family photos and facts about Gypsy's life that she previously kept private, My Time to Stand offers an unprecedented look at the real Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, proudly embarking on her ongoing journey to recovery and self-discovery.

This book highlights the lack of action by police, taking too long to organise searches, and evidence of the police not believing witnesses. It covers complaints sent to the IPCA and about their misogynistic way of handling some of the rape victims. And how this treatment from the system sets up victims to fail in getting justice. One Step at a Time

Shalane Hopkins 出版
2026/01/13 出版

In 2010, before Te Araroa officially opened or was widely known, Shalane Hopkins set out to walk its 3,000 km across New Zealand with a friend. Few Kiwis had attempted the trail, and the route remained rugged and untamed. The 171-day journey tested her grit, resilience, and determination as she faced relentless rain, endless beaches, bush, injuries, and even giardia. Then the 2011 Christchurch earthquake struck, and a pause to help with clean-up efforts resulted in a race against time to finish Te Araroa and reach Bluff. One Step at a Time is an adventure memoir and hiking journey that explores fear, self-doubt, and the untamed edges of identity. Readers of travel memoirs and inspirational true stories will find Shalane's journey moving and uplifting. Women adventurers and long-distance trail enthusiasts will be inspired by her courage and determination every step of the way.

What happens when a Canadian comedian, a high-ranking military officer, and his gym-obsessed husband unite in what seems like a fairytale throuple? In this hilarious memoir, actor, comedian, and media personality Jesse Reynolds dives into an oh-so-modern romance that spirals into awkward threesomes, family drama, unforgettable road trips ... and even a custom-built Chihuahua fortress! Do you have a nagging fear that your work isn't truly important? Or that your potential greatness will wither, unrealized? Most people never feel purpose in their work. They never bring their full energy to a meaningful mission. Purpose and intensity are Elon Musk's superpowers. He chooses colossal missions. Then he is maniacal, creative, and relentless in pursuit of success. It's not charm, luck, or genius that made him the wealthiest person on Earth. It's his mindset. Musk's mindset is laid out clearly in this book, the result of five years of work, distilling millions of words into an easy read. Eric Jorgenson also wrote The Almanack of Naval Ravikant, a word-of-mouth phenomenon with millions of readers in 40+ languages. This isn't a biography or a cheesy self-help book. Instead, through Musk's own words, you will feel personally mentored to lead a rich life full of purpose, passion, and prosperity.

Impacted

Tom,Clarke  著
2026/01/13 出版

In Impacted: How to Overcome the Storms of Life, Tom Clarke-an avid surfer and artist-invites readers into a deeply personal journey shaped by hardship, resilience, and faith. From an early age, Tom learned that life does not always unfold gently. Growing up with two alcoholic parents, he experienced instability and emotional uncertainty that left lasting impressions. As a child, he also faced a near-death experience caused by an unexplained illness-an event that forced him to confront fear, vulnerability, and the fragility of life at a young age.Tom's storms did not end there. As an adult, he endured the devastating loss of a child when she was only three weeks old, a grief that reshaped his understanding of love, sorrow, and hope. He later walked through an emotionally painful divorce and significant business losses, moments that challenged his identity, faith, and sense of purpose.Throughout Impacted, Tom vulnerably shares these experiences-not to dwell on pain, but to reveal how life's most difficult waves can shape who we become. Drawing meaningful parallels between surfing, weather, nature, and the human experience, Tom shows how Creation speaks to us through moments we often overlook. He offers insight into how storms can refine us rather than destroy us, teaching us not only how to endure hardship but how to emerge with compassion, wisdom, and strength.More than a story of survival, Impacted is an invitation to see adversity differently and to discover how the things that have impacted you most can become a source of hope-for yourself and for others-as you face the storms of life.

The Kitchen Limit

David,Subba  著
David Subba 出版
2026/01/13 出版

This is not a story about conquering the world; it is a story about the stubborn effort to keep a roof over a family's head.David Subba grew up in a world where responsibility arrived too early. Hunger did not ask your age. Homes changed, relatives came and went, and the promises adults made to children were often measured against what could actually be cooked, paid, or carried. In Kathmandu, faith offered warmth and belonging, even when money was tight and the future felt like something other people could afford. Then came England. David lands with little cash and a suitcase full of hope that keeps slipping through his fingers. He works, learns, fails, tries again, and begins to understand a new country from the ground up: factory floors, long commutes, rented rooms, and the steady pressure to become someone "settled." Along the way, small acts of kindness matter as much as big opportunities. The Kitchen Limit follows the long arc from scarcity to stability without pretending the past disappears. It is a memoir about migration, class and caste pressures, dignity, family, and second chances. Honest, warm, and quietly humorous, it is for anyone who has ever had to start over and keep going anyway.

All I Learned At Boarding School Is That Knife Begins With An 'S'

Daly,Kelly  著
Kme 出版
2026/01/12 出版

Boarding school is a world apart - a place where time is measured in bells, loyalty is forged in dorm rooms, and survival often depends on humour, resilience, and an unspoken code among peers. Behind the polished prospectuses and proud traditions lies a daily reality rarely captured: friendships that feel like family, rivalries that burn hot, rules bent (and sometimes broken), and lessons learned far beyond the classroom. This book is an honest, often funny, and occasionally confronting reflection on those years - the rituals, the rebellions, the quiet moments of growth, and the chaos that comes from packing hundreds of adolescents into a tightly controlled environment. It explores what boarding school gives you, what it takes from you, and how those experiences linger long after the uniforms are gone.My name is Daly Kelly, and I attended boarding school from the 27th of January 2000 to the 17th of November 2004. In this time, I shared many experiences with my peers, and I felt that many of these were worthy of publication. And so here comes the story of my life at boarding school!

The Modern Fifth Monarchist

2026/01/12 出版

With trials and tribulations still looming in the distance, after having Satan tamper with the truth, Gulf War-era veteran Scott Harrison brings the truth to light in The Modern Fifth Monarchist: An Apocalyptic Message--a memoir detailing Scott's direct encounters with Jesus Christ and Satan in which he was sent directly from Christ's glorified arms to prepare the bride for the Second Coming.Realizing there was none like Scott, Satan began to directly hinder Scott until he could ensnare him and catch him in a fault. His memoir records a summary of his Harrison lineage and the events of his own life that had the most significant impacts. It also includes his current theological and political positions. His direct encounters with Christ and Satan prove Satan's ignorance of God's future plans because he played right into God's hands. The hindrances He imposed on Scott caused brother to betray brother and a father his son, so that son rose against father and put him to death. Jesus foretold these events in two of the gospels when speaking of sending the apostles and as a sign of the end-times.Scott's memoir reveals how multiple other end-time prophecies have been fulfilled as well. It is the instrument of an apocalyptic message to make ready the bride of Christ, by spurring a Modern Fifth Monarchy movement to counter the rise of the anti-Christ and establish a starting point for Christ's reign on earth.
