This book portrays Franklin Delano Roosevelt as a Wall Street financier who, during his first term as President of the United States, reflected the objectives of financial elements concentrated in the New York business establishment. Given the long historical association-since the late 18th century-of the Roosevelt and Delano families with New York finance and FDR's own career from 1921 to 1928 as banker and speculator at 120 Broadway and 55 Liberty Street, such a theme should not come as a surprise to the reader. On the other hand, FDR biographers Schlesinger, Davis, Freidel, and otherwise accurate Roosevelt commentators appear to avoid penetrating very far into the recorded and documented links between New York bankers and FDR. We intend to present the facts of the relationship, as recorded in FDR's letter files. These are new facts only in the sense that they have not previously been published; they are readily available in the archives for research, and consideration of this information suggests a reassessment of FDR's role in the history of the 20th century.

Critics of populism and advocates of elitist democracy often place greater confidence in political elites than in the general public. However, this trust may be misplaced. In five experiments with local politicians, state legislators, and members of the public, the author finds a similar willingness across all groups to entrench their party's power when given the opportunity - a self-serving majoritarianism that transcends partisan lines. This tendency is strongest among committed ideologues, politicians running in highly competitive districts, and those who perceive opponents as especially threatening. Local elected officials even appear more focused on securing their party's next presidential victory than on opposing bans against their political rivals. These findings challenge the conventional mass/elite dichotomy, revealing little differences in undemocratic attitudes. Safeguarding democracy likely requires shifting focus from those individual attitudes to strengthening institutional restraints against majority abuses. Mapaganda meaning how maps, scribbles and generally depictions are used to influence the general public. The word is compound from the words Map and Propaganda. By critically analyzing maps and understanding their historical context, we can gain a deeper understanding of how cartography has been employed as a means of political power and work towards a more equitable and just world. Throughout history, cartography has been used as a powerful political tool to manipulate how people view the world. Maps are not just a means of highlighting physical features, but are often used to support, promote and legitimize the actions of those in power. In numerous contexts of different periods or geographical places, various societies have employed cartography as a means of asserting dominance and establishing power over other cultures and societies. This book explores how maps were used as means of propaganda from antiquity into the modern era and up to the end of WWII.
