In an era of supposed equality, women are falling behind in the workplace faster than before, a trend exacerbated by Covid-19. Even with more women in the workforce than in decades past, wage gaps continue to increase. It is the most educated women who have fallen the furthest from behind. Blue-collar women hold the most insecure and badly paid jobs in our economy. And even as we celebrate high-profile representation--women on the board of Fortune 500 companies and our first female vice president--women have limited recourse when they experience harassment and discrimination. Fair Shake: Women and the Fight to Build a Just Economy explains that the system that governs our economy--a winner-take-all economy--is the root cause of these myriad problems. The WTA self-selects aggressive, cutthroat business tactics, which creates a feedback loop that sidelines women. Social Identity and Working Class Support for the Populist Radical Right
Why are blue-collar workers increasingly supporting the populist radical right in Western Europe? Previous explanations for this phenomenon suggest that it is the result of their economic and cultural grievances and their general discontent towards the political system. Social Identity and Working Class Support for the Populist Radical Right argues that these explanations are unable to account for why the working class - despite their deteriorating economic position in recent decades - would prefer to vote for a party family that they agree with more on cultural issues (the populist radical right) than economic issues (the populist radical or mainstream left). To explain this puzzle, the book develops a theory utilizing the literature on social identity. It argues and empirically finds that political and economic conditions relatively unfavourable to the working class increase blue-collar worker support for the populist radical right in Western Europe by strengthening these workers' national identity and thus also the salience they place on cultural issues. Castater and Han's analysis suggests that if governing parties desire to reduce support for the populist radical right, they should incorporate labour organizations into the welfare state reform process, enact economic policies that improve the well-being of a broad swath of the working class, and reduce the types of economic inequality that most affect blue-collar workers.

Planning and policy must balance moderating climate change impact from rising temperatures, extreme precipitation, and sea level rise with social equity and environmental justice. Climate Bridge compares New Jersey and the German Ruhr region to build an international perspective on how to enact climate action at the government-public interface. The book grew from fifteen years of collaboration between scholars in New Jersey and Germany through summer programs, a landscape architecture design studio, internships for Rutgers University students, and joint publications. Notably, settlement patterns and brownfield issues reveal similarities between the underserved in both regions. The first section compares international environmental planning approaches and outlines different approaches to common problems. The second section presents case studies that highlight adaptation strategies for uncertainties caused by climate change. Finally, the closing section reminds us of our dependence on ecological systems for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Contributors to this landmark volume include planners, designers, scholars, public administrators, and decision-makers on both sides of the Atlantic. Together, the chapters bring interdisciplinary approaches and diverse perspectives to the environmental, economic, political, and social dimensions of planning and design in the context of climate change.
How Regional Organizations Sustain Authoritarian Rule
Authoritarian regional organizations have experienced a remarkable rise in numbers and importance. Autocracies across the world have joined organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and the Bolivian Alliance for the People of Our America (ALBA) over the last few decades. But why do autocracies institutionalize cooperation and join regional organizations considering the possible sovereignty costs? Do authoritarian regional organizations differ from their democratic counterparts in terms of activities and design? What are the domestic effects of membership for authoritarian rule? How Regional Organizations Sustain Authoritarian Rule explores the rise in and the impact of authoritarian regional organizations - the Dictators' Clubs - in world politics. It examines how and why incumbent autocratic regimes sort into regional authoritarian organizations, compares their activities and designs to their democratic counterparts, and considers the political effects on member states. With a combination of statistical survival analysis and case studies from the Middle East, (Eur)Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America, Maria J. Debre reveals that regional organizations have helped to defend autocratic regimes from pro-democratic protestors, co-opt political elites, legitimize flawed elections, regulate behavior among members to prevent unwanted domestic interference, and shield regimes against the fallout from international sanctions. While regionalism has long been associated with the aspiration of states to promote democracy and human rights, Debre illustrates that these dictators' clubs bolster authoritarian rule worldwide.
