Motivate
The picture charts, positive words and fun learning strategies included in this book help inspire and motivate children who are challenged with focus and organizing behaviors at school and home. We Were Really Scared
When our family gets together for special times such as holidays, birthdays or just times to be together, we start telling about things we recall from years past. Often these stories are about times that we were quite frightened. On one such occasion, I remarked that we should compile these scary stories into a book. Someone said, "That's a good idea. Why don't you do it?" Since I had written several books, I thought, "Yes, why not?" This book is the result of that idea.

Turning the Corner chronicles the experiences of the authors who have worked with thousands of participants with multiple challenges, including early life trauma. The book highlights The Inner Journey Training(c) model that they used to help participants get back on track with their lives. In preparing participants for living wage jobs, the authors used a holistic approach to address both the lack of employable skills as well as the emotional, educational, behavioral, psychological, and other issues that contribute to their lack of success. This included problem solving at work and home, shifting cultural paradigms, and addressing the behavioral issues and belief systems that prevent participants from getting and keeping employment. Turning the Corner has two purposes: (1) to help practitioners understand the mindset of the participants that they serve and (2) to provide effective intervention strategies that assist the hardest to serve population in leading successful lives.

The story of "Queen Mariella and the Fable of the Peony" is fictionalized tale of how ants help peonies blossom to be one of the prettiest and fullest flowers in the garden to herald the coming of spring. The text is written at a fourth-grade readability (Frye's Readability) yet uses some challenging words to advance the young intermediate students' vocabulary. Use of Spanish words in the text introduces readers to a bi-cultural, bilingual world we all need to learn to appreciate. Consequently, it would be great for bilingual or bi-cultural experiences. Another goal of the text is to help children better understand the value of character education and the importance of a nurturing love for one another and to be courageous enough to stand up for it. Its colorful pictures of flowers also introduce children to the world of gardening.
