Regarding My Mother
I went to a production of Rogers and Hammerstein's Carousel last year. On listening and reading the words of its songs, I was suddenly struck by how almost every song seemed to resonate with me and my emotions about my mother, her family and our relationship.The next day, after starting to write a couple of poems using the parallel thinking from Carousel, I have just referred to, I realised that maybe this was the trigger to start writing a complete book of poems about my mother.Having written one on my father after he passed nearly four years ago, and having lost my mother some twenty-six years ago, this seemed the moment. So, start I did...The poems begin with my reflections on Carousel and me and my mother, then they go back to my mother's early life in the countryside and meeting my father, several relate to the musical's songs. They then move to my childhood with her and my twin brother and finally are about the period after I had left home and then my mother's too early departure from this life.

It has been estimated that 70% to 90% of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience mealtime challenges (Volkert & Vaz, 2010). Most approaches to the treatment of mealtime challenges have focused on decreasing interfering mealtime behaviors through escape extinction (i.e., requiring consumption of food prior to meal termination) and other approaches that may be perceived as punitive by parents, individuals diagnosed with ASD, and other stakeholders. In recent years, there has been an increase in research on promoting enjoyable mealtimes for individuals diagnosed with ASD and their families. The purpose of this edited book is to provide a comprehensive review of these approaches for improving mealtime behaviors for individuals diagnosed with ASD, provide clinical recommendations for improving mealtime behaviors, and identify areas for future research.

Jackass
Short stories are a unique writing medium and a treat for a novelist and songwriter. Like songwriting, a short story is a way to deliver a punch with a single idea or "hook" as the Nashville cats call it. Jackass came from my second trip ascending from the bottom to the top of the Grand Canyon. Hiking the Bright Angel Trail, I saw a lush valley and fertile streams running down to the Colorado River, but the Kaibab Trail follows a dry lifeless but breathlessly austere path that is like no other. I was writing my first novel, The Purple River, at the time and was compelled to take a break from it to allow this tale to unfold.It's a Date is a fun dialogue the vibe of which I heard over and over again in thirty-five years living in Silicon Valley. Trust me, that's really the way it is.Balls on a Brass Monkey, The Seatmate is my lighthearted take on coping with the monotonous drone of political correctness. Lake Tahoe skiing is an enticing backdrop for this humorous yarn. The Blast was written during a fascination with psychic topics like telekinesis as well as a preponderance of tragic events from worldwide terrorism. The story takes a light approach with a hint of the paranormal. Two More Pieces of Pie was written after a long weekend wine tasting with my poker buddies. Yes, we found that Roadhouse near Paso Robles, and yes when the band finished, we jumped up on stage and rocked the house with our eclectic folk/jazz blend of jamming. And yes, there was a granddaughter who jumped on stage to help out between waitress duties. You can't make this stuff up! These are fun stories for your amusement!

No One Ever Told Me was co-created by two mamas (and best friends) Jordana Handler and Lani Lipson. They connected in 2015 when they were both pregnant with their first babies. As they navigated the wild world of postpartum, they realized there are so many things no one tells you about being a new mom. Having each other to share the experience in an honest and vulnerable way made the fourth trimester a lot easier to survive. They wanted to bring that support outside of their friendship, so they created a platform for moms to share their truths. In 2018, they interviewed 100 moms and began sharing their stories anonymously on Instagram.They spoke to so many parents who lacked a support system. Back in the day, we had villages where mothers could count on each other for a helping hand. We don't live like that anymore. Now we are expected to do everything on our own, which isn't healthy or sustainable. Lani & Jordana learned that all moms crave the kind of support that you only get from parent to parent. So, they invite you to help us build a village that is strong and inclusive-no bullshit or judgments allowed. Let's share our valuable experiences and best-kept secrets. Let's lift each other up in a world that often seems bent on dragging women and mothers down. Let's change the way we talk about motherhood, about community, and about maternal mental health.

It was at that unforgettable moment that the mother realized that if every supervising guardian to a child paid enough attention, the guardian has the power to nurture and cultivate the gifts in a child, which can also easily foretell of a child's calling. Oftentimes, when a kid is happy, the guardian to that kid is happy too!
Enjoy Life
Life is too short and unpredictable. When we try to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I have had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles do not have to stop us. Each chapter of this book tells the challenges, experiences I have encounterd and overcomed. This book also includes some self-massages and my visions for a better world.
