Unburdening Motherhood

Angele,Close  著
Health 出版
2025/06/18 出版

Practical tools to help mothers heal so they can approach motherhood with more self-trust, compassion, and joy. When clinical psychologist and mindfulness meditation teacher Dr. Angele Close started a family, she assumed she would have the skills, maturity, and all the love to create a harmonious, joy-filled home. But past trauma and the heavy weight of cultural myths about what makes "a good mother" turned parenting into a minefield of triggers. To truly break the cycle of generational pain, she realized she still had inner work to do while also navigating the relentless demands of modern-day motherhood. Close's experience is all too familiar to many mothers. A recent US Surgeon General advisory confirmed that 33% of parents experience high levels of stress, with nearly half feeling overwhelmed. Studies show that mothers, more than fathers, find parenting stressful and feel judged, often leading to isolating, burnout, and depression. Add to that, many feel the burden of cultural myths like: A good mom loves all aspects of motherhood. A good mom sacrifices her needs for her family. A good mom raises "good" kids. The pressure to be the perfect mom often leads to guilt, shame, and silence--creating unnecessary pain that affects both mothers and their children. But instead of ignoring her mounting triggers, Close turned them into profound opportunities for healing which she shares in Unburdening Motherhood. Unburdening Motherhood explores "matrescence," the profound and often unspoken identity transformation women undergo when they become mothers. Matrescence encapsulates how cultural expectations, internalized beliefs, and resurfaced childhood wounds collide during this transition. These can send already stressed moms spiraling into feelings of shame, unprocessed grief, and often isolation and self-blame. Drawing on the tenets of Internal Family Systems, an evidence-based model for trauma healing, Close offers mothers a hopeful path to understand their inner "parts" so they can heal and thrive in motherhood. Mothers want to enjoy mothering but feel weighed down by these unrealistic expectations. They worry about passing on their wounds to their children, but therapy often feels inaccessible. This is where Unburdening Motherhood steps in--teaching mothers how to address their inner struggles, transforming confusion into clarity, and becoming the mothers they aspire to be.

Listen to Your Baby

Naomi,Aldort  著
Health 出版
2025/06/17 出版

In the first and only book of its kind in the parenting and baby-care arena, internationally acclaimed parenting advice expert and bestselling author Naomi Aldort gives the power of knowing back to the parents so they can trust their own inner wisdom, and foster a nurturing relationship with their children. Including The Work of Byron Katie, the compassionate care approach offers a guiding light to parents. Today's parents are confused, not by a lack of information but too much information--too many theories by too many experts, which leaves them insecure and unsure of their abilities. Parents have become dependent on authority to know how to respond to their own baby or toddler to a frightening degree. Listen to Your Baby is the antidote to this confusion. This revolutionary book teaches a self-inquiry that creates emotional freedom to be able to see the baby or toddler from an authentic and loving heart. To do so, readers learn to use The Work of Byron Katie in order to release stressful thoughts that abstract the ability to notice the child as he or she is and then be able to see the baby's valid needs with clarity. The result is a peaceful connection, in which the child feels secure and naturally responds with care and inner peace of his or her own free will. At the same time, the book also provides a wealth of commonsense solutions and ideas to consider, many of which break the common limiting and complicating narratives. Listen to Your Baby can create a breakthrough in building trust between parents and child and making parents see the obvious with ease.

"A story well told, with humor and sensitivity by the father awarded the first paternity leave from the New York City Board of Education 45 years ago."Dr. Hazel Dukes - Past National President and Board Member, NAACP "Nothing is more important than our relationship with our families. Among his notable works are Goodfellas, Casino, Father Hood, Blye, Private Eye, and City Hall. From Sixty Two to Sixty Two

2025/06/14 出版

I didn't even know what a memoir was when I started writing this! What I discovered though, was that this is not an autobiography as it doesn't span the whole of my life but rather sums up some of what I have done from being born in 1962 to becoming 62 years old. When I started to write this, I quickly realised that until now I had no great interest in my family history and I expect the same will be true for my children. It did become clear though, that by the time I was interested and got round to doing something about it, many of the people and events were forgotten or unavailable. Some of what I have written seems very old fashioned now. What it does show is how times have changed in what really is a short space of time.

Nonmonogamy and Defying a Paradigm

2025/06/13 出版

An examination of how we live in a mononormative paradigm and how nonmonogamous people can defy the status quo. Exploring nonmonogamy can require us to shift our worldview and deconstruct what we've been taught about relationship dynamics. However, it is difficult to defy paradigms while also existing within them--even as we strive to unlearn established norms, we can find ourselves unintentionally reproducing the principles of paradigms like mononormativity in our nonmonogamous relationships. In a society where monogamy is established as normal and reinforced through legal systems and cultural etiquette, this is not surprising. By examining prevalent cultural norms and values, and presenting real-life examples of mononormativity's impact, Marla Schreiber encourages readers to consider their own preconceptions and guides them towards effectively defying mononormativity and other intersecting paradigms.

Raising the Sen-Betweeners

Lisa,Lloyd  著
Vermilion 出版
2025/06/13 出版

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'One of the most loving and tender accounts of motherhood I've ever read' - Sarah Turner 'Heartwarming and honest with magnificent humor sprinkled throughout' - Clara Batten 'Lisa writes with an honesty that is both refreshing and important' - Kellie Bright, actor and SEN Parent The highs, the lows and the delightfully neurospicy - this book is for every parent raising the 'in-between' children in a neurotypical world. How many times have you heard 'he doesn't look autistic' or 'she seems fine to me'? Do you sometimes feel alone as a parent, like no one really gets it? And have you ever watched in horror as your child told a friend their house was 'boring and smelly'?! If any of that sounds familiar, it's time to throw out the perfect parenting guides and join Lisa Lloyd on this rollercoaster journey of raising neurodivergent children who don't fit the mainstream but aren't considered 'severe' either. Lisa has been there and is ready to tell all - from the confusion of the early years and discovering your child is neurodivergent, to navigating a school system that doesn't seem to fit, and the daily frustrations of picking your battles (and losing most of them). Ever wondered what would happen if you took your autistic three-year-old on a haunted ghost ride? Or what your reaction would be if your seven-year-old grabbed a stranger's backfat in the changing rooms? Wonder no more! Raising the SEN-Betweeners is a very honest guide for all those parents in similar shoes, navigating the challenges, joys and hilariously unpredictable moments every day. If that is you, this book will make one thing very clear: you are not alone.

Restrung

Sparkpress 出版
2025/06/12 出版

Weaving the author's coming of age in 1980s New York with his life as a father today, this Nick Hornby-meets-Cheryl Strayed debut memoir examines father-son relationships, the pain of early parent loss, and the importance of embracing your passions. For nearly fifteen years, Matt Fogelson didn't recognize how deeply the early death of his workaholic father had affected him. Then he had a son of his own and the floodgates opened, helping him realize that even deeper than the wound left by his father's death were the wounds inflicted by his absence while alive. Restrung follows Fogelson from his beginnings as a music-loving kid combing through vinyl in Greenwich Village, through his struggles to overcome his grief during young adulthood, and into becoming a man who is startled by the reemergence of his long-suppressed passion for music after becoming a father. Told with humor, grief, and hope, it's the story of a passionate music lover's effort to break free of the real and imagined constraints standing between him and his best life--an effort that ultimately allows Fogelson's son to know his father in a way Fogelson never knew his. Funny and deeply honest, Restrung is a balm for every father and son fortunate enough to still have each other in their lives. It will inspire readers to try to cross the emotional gulf that seems almost endemic to the father-son relationship and finally break through to one another.

Untethered

2025/06/11 出版

"Untethered: The Journey from Pain to Purpose" is a profound Christian self-help book written from a Reformed theological perspective that guides readers through the process of healing from past pain and trauma toward living a purposeful life aligned with God's design. The book uses the metaphor of being "tethered" to painful experiences and limiting narratives that prevent us from experiencing the freedom Christ offers. The book is structured in twelve chapters that follow a thoughtful progression from identifying pain narratives to discovering purpose beyond suffering. It begins by helping readers recognize how past traumas and painful experiences create "invisible tethers" that limit freedom and shape identity. The early chapters focus on understanding these narratives and the cost of remaining bound by them. The middle chapters guide readers through the healing process, exploring forgiveness, surrender to God, and rebuilding identity based on biblical truth rather than painful experiences. The final chapters address building healthy connections with others, creating meaning from suffering, discovering purpose, and maintaining newfound freedom. Each chapter integrates solid Reformed theological principles with practical psychological insights, offering a balanced approach that honors both spiritual truth and the reality of human experience. The author maintains a warm, compassionate tone while addressing difficult topics, occasionally incorporating appropriate humor to make the content more approachable.A distinctive feature of the book is the inclusion of practical worksheets at the end of each chapter, designed for both individual reflection and group discussion. These worksheets provide concrete application of the theoretical concepts discussed in the main text, helping readers move from understanding to action.Throughout the book, Scripture is used as the foundational authority, while insights from psychology and counseling are evaluated through a biblical lens. The author emphasizes God's sovereignty over both suffering and healing, the importance of community in the healing process, and the transformative power of viewing one's identity through the lens of who we are in Christ rather than through past pain."Untethered" speaks to readers who have experienced various forms of suffering-from childhood trauma to adult disappointments-and offers them a path toward not just healing but purposeful living. It's particularly valuable for those in the Reformed tradition seeking a theologically sound approach to emotional healing and personal growth.

Not a Survival Guide

Nicole,Howes  著
2025/06/11 出版

Not a Survival Guide is your straight talking parenting companion, guiding you through the transition from childhood to teenage years, one conversation at a time. You will find moments of comfort, practical approaches to support your journey and (eeep) some home truths. Offering insight and a sense of community, during what can be a challenging few years, Not a survival Guide combines personal experiences and expert advice, with real life scenarios and accessible analogies. Carefully crafted to help you make the right choices for your family, encourage healthy conversations with your teen and offer support when it all feels a bit too much. Note from the author; This book is not a survival guide. I do not believe that teenage years are there to be "survived". They are there to be lived and loved, just like the other stages of parenting that you have already passed through and those you have to come. I am not insinuating it will be an easy ride, but maybe that's part of the fun of it? Failing that, at least within the pages of this book, we are all in it together.

It's shady if we're being honest," Nadia commented."You're just mad that Xander isn't interested in you anymore," Aziel told her. I inwardly laughed at the look on her face."Ok, so maybe we need to look at this from a non biased view. She showed up shot, she can't remember anything, and her recent activities are questionable. That doesn't necessarily mean that she's guilty of all these crimes," Nigel pointed out.
