Reconnected Parenting
This book takes parents from feeling disconnected to reconnecting with their true, authentic center, so they can be free to respond the way they really want to and create a life of ease, consciousness, and enjoyment in their family life. Most of us are self-aware, know a lot about parenting, and already have a lot of tools in our toolbox. We know our triggers and when they are triggered; we know about regulation; and we even have lists of scripts and are knowledgeable about what experts think we should do and say in those moments. And yet, when it comes down to it, in the moment of stress, we can't seem to actually make a difference in the way we respond. Reconnected Parenting is a guide to help parents do better in the moments that count; and it shows readers how understanding the nervous system and using our breath to rewire our reactions from our body up creates deep, lasting change. You will be taken on a journey through the science behind the nervous system and how this is holistically linked to connecting to our truest and most spiritual selves.

Parent Minute with Greg Yoder
How many times have you ever received unsolicited parenting and grandparenting advice only to realize that the person giving it didn't have a ton of experience dealing with serious issues? There are a lot of families where their kids are "pleasers" and they don't have many issues to deal with. While other families seem to struggle with each child. Based on the syndicated radio program with Keys for Kids Ministries, Parent Minute with Greg Yoder, Imperfect Parenting in an Imperfect World, is a daily devotional that offers real-world advice from one imperfect parent to another. It was borne out of the fact that Greg is a parent and grandparent who has dealt with a lot of stuff. It hasn't been easy. While he and his wife have had successes in parenting, they've also had a lot of heartache. They made some good decisions. They made some bad ones. And they learned from all of them. He shares both in this book. Parent Minute with Greg Yoder is a syndicated radio program, internet resource, and now a devotional book, coming from an imperfect parent talking to other imperfect parents in a very imperfect world. The most important thing is that he looks to God's Word for instruction, encouragement, and hope as we parent the kids in our lives. God never called us to be perfect parents, but he did call us to be faithful parents. It's impossible to do that perfectly. Even in that faithfulness, there are no guarantees in parenting. He hopes this book will encourage you each day by talking about issues facing families today. Some issues are common. Other issues are difficult and hard to talk about. Ultimately, though, we look to God for guidance, and rest on the fact that God is in control, yes, even in difficult parenting moments.

The Kids Are Online
A nuanced, intimate picture of how young people live with and on social media. Today's young people find themselves at the center of widespread debates about their online safety, and they are often told that social media platforms affect their mental health and body image by exposing them to cyberbullying and distressing images. Foregrounding their voices and experiences, The Kids Are Online explores how they navigate their identities across platforms and how they really feel about their young digital lives. Ysabel Gerrard talked to more than a hundred teens to unpack the myths and realities of their social media use. Instead of framing today's big platforms as either good or bad, she identifies moments when young people encounter social apps in paradoxical ways--both good and bad at the same time. Using the concepts of stigma, secrecy, safety, and social comparison, she helps readers understand young people's experiences. The Kids Are Online proposes a series of recommendations for parents, families, schools, technology companies, and policymakers to imagine how we might build safer social media systems.

Seventeen Parcels
Seventeen Parcels shares a thrilling - and unconventional - treasure hunt that will keep readers guessing with each page. In this novel, a wealthy man wills a vast fortune to his three grown children but leaves directions to it in 17 parcels hidden throughout the US. Now, the heirs must find the parcels and follow the path to their inheritance, if indeed there actually is any. The attorney for billionaire Xander Moorhouse employs a package delivery driver to hide 17 mysterious parcels each in a different US State. Driver Austin Somerfeld does so over the course of 18 months, following a strict set of rules and earning a half-million dollars for his efforts. Moorhouse dies 11 years later, but leaves behind directions indicating that his grown children - Caroline, David, and Juliana - must find the hidden parcels and open them in numbered sequence only after all have been located. The three heirs participate reluctantly but warm to the on-going adventure. This is a captivating novel for road trip treasure hunt readers to become involved in the drama of hiding, then finding the 17 parcels with a host of attendant obstacles and difficulties along the way. Such readers will be just as puzzled as the heirs when parcels are at last opened and Xander's intentions are revealed.
Normal Curve?
Mother once told me, "Every life is a series of stories, and most lives are hundreds of stories tall. It's impossible to read them all, and it's often difficult to distinguish between the fiction and the non-fiction chapters in each one. So, the only way to get to really know someone is through the Reader's Digest version, one issue at a time." The point is, there are hundreds of stories behind the story I'm about to tell you, and every character is an anthology unto themselves. If you have followed their stories before, you are aware of their back issues. If not, I trust that there is enough of the Reader's Digest version that follows to give you enough gist for the mill. This is a story so real, and yet so magical, that you might well think it's fiction. But only those who don't believe in magic will find it so. For the rest of us, the only difference between a literary life, and a physical life, is that a literary life lasts forever. As Mother says, "The Circle of Life is just one big learning curve." NORMAL CURVE? takes us along the Poole-Hall extended family's passage through countless twists and turns, and around a few curves that are anything but normal ... but then again, I'm sure that's what you've been expecting. As he did in the previous two books in this series, NORMAL? and NORMAL TOO?, our narrator, Gene Poole-Hall takes us on a journey that is so real, so extraordinarily full of love, humor, and magic, you may well find yourself wanting to become a member of this fictional family, where you too will live forever. If that doesn't sound normal, welcome to the family.

You really can have both restful sleep and a securely attached child! Do you want your baby or child to: Wake up less frequently?Sleep more restfully?Feel deeply relaxed?Be securely attached?Would you love harmony with your older child or teen and their sleep? In this attachment- and trauma-informed book, Marion Rose, PhD, explains the innate biological wisdom that babies, children, and teens have for restful sleep - and how cultural conditioning teaches parents to fight against it.Drawing on research into traditional cultures, our hunter-gatherer ancestors, and the physiology of stress and relaxation, this book shows how children from infancy to the teen years need to be both tired and relaxed to sleep restfully.Discover the two key ingredients for true relaxation: 1 Safety: Babies, children, and teens need to feel safe in order to feel relaxed enough to sleep restfully. The younger they are, the more they need closeness with us to feel safe.2 Cooperation with their innate relaxation processes: When they are sleepy, babies, children, and teens try to use their relaxation-through-release responses. They need our support for those processes to work.Without these two ingredients, they won't feel relaxed. Instead, they will need to dissociate to fall asleep, leading to less restful sleep and more frequent waking.Based on the Aware Parenting approach developed by Aletha Solter, PhD, this compassionate book explains how babies, children, and teens naturally know how to heal from stress and trauma when they're tired, leading to profound relaxation and restful sleep.Discover how to help your co-sleeping breastfeeding baby sleep for longer stretches - by listening to their feelings while holding them in your loving arms.Help your child sleep restfully by joining in with their rambunctious play and listening lovingly to their tears and tantrums.Understand how to support your older child or teen, so they remain connected with their innate body wisdom for restful sleep.Marion Rose, PhD is a Level 2 Aware Parenting instructor and the Regional Coordinator for Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia. Then I leaned closer and found his leg again. I ran my stockinged toes over his ankle, moving it up, slowly. He looked at me again, sharply, his eyes darkening. I gave him an innocent smile and looked away.I continued to move my foot up, higher and higher, ignoring his eyes. Soon, my foot found his already hard erection.

An Exploration of Unintended Consequences
This is a collection of five warm and sentimental novelettes that provide an unapologetic male gaze (despite the raconteur in three of them being women) upon the actions of ordinary people and the consequences of these actions, intended and unintended, upon their lives. In the process, it takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of India - from the eastern states of Bihar and Jharkhand to the western city of Mumbai, and from the line of control in Kashmir to the southern city of Chennai - covering a span of time from the license raj days of the 1980s to the lockdown and its aftermath in the 2020s and describing the lives of a range of people, from the English-speaking elite to others from less educated and exposed sections of society. The collection is a must-read for those looking to introduce themselves to the parts of the country and its people that they may not be familiar with, and to values and attitudes different to their own.
Mishpocha!
Our narrator gets caught ostensibly smuggling someone into Germany illegally. It is during conversations with an appointed psychologist that she recounts her family history, starting with her great-grandfather, Samuel Kohanim. The story begins in Prussia (now Poland) early in the 20th century, where a Jewish family enjoys an idyllic life near the Vistula river - except for the fact that Samuel has no male heir. Instead, he has seven daughters, for whom he worries about finding suitable husbands. As each daughter marries, the story moves across the landscape to Berlin, Germany. Franziska, the middle daughter, finds herself in a scandalous situation, into which Walter is born and adopted by Samuel as his heir. Oda, a close family friend, goes to work for one of the elder sisters as a seamstress. Oda has a daughter, Hella, who learns to fend for herself when her mother is arrested as a member of the Communist Party. Walter and Hella later marry. After Walter assaults a member of the Stasi, Hella decides they need to take their daughter and escape to the West. As the life stories of family members unfold, the events that form the history of the twentieth century are described from the points of view of observers or participants in letters and a well-crafted narrative. Spurned would-be lovers, sexual scandal, revenge, rags to fame, women finding their independence, and murder all with the changes occurring in Europe as a back drop.

This should be required reading for those who look on adoption as the last resort." -Mary McGrory, Washington Post columnist "Bartholet is a passionate crusader on behalf of children, and brings to her subject vigorous, clear-headed prose and the moral authority of her professional dedication." -Ann-Janine Morey, Chicago Tribune "Bartholet issues a strong challenge to the child welfare system to facilitate adoption of children who have been abused and neglected. All people concerned about the healthy development of children should read Nobody's Children. I highly recommend it." -Alvin F. Poussaint, M.D., clinical professor of psychiatry, Harvard Medical School "The way we treat abused and neglected children in this country remains a national scandal. Deserts to Mountaintops
Against all odds, just barely one month after Jessica Buchanan had been rescued by SEAL Team Six by order of President Obama, she found out she was pregnant. After spending ninety-three days at the hands of Somali pirates who had demanded a 45-million-dollar ransom in exchange for her freedom, Jessica could not imagine a reality in which her traumatized mind and malnourished body could grow, birth, and nurture this new life. But he grew, and as a result, so did she; in her capacity to trust her heart, her therapist, and the wise plan of the Universe.Deserts to Mountaintops: The Pilgrimage of Motherhood was born out of the most challenging moments of Jessica's motherhood journey. As she worked on healing from her kidnapping trauma, navigating the emotions that came with new parenthood, and balancing her grief with the loss of her mother and her home, it became clear that this little boy had been sent to save her. And save her, he did. There are few journeys in life as sacred as the one that leads us to, through or away from motherhood. The low lows and the high highs of caring for children with special needs or watching identities evaporate from caretaking, or being given the enormous task of loving the world, rather than just one or two, are experienced by so many women, but rarely talked about, which is why Jessica invited twenty-one women to share their own deserts to mountaintop experiences in motherhood.Throughout this book, courageous women do not look away from their own pain but instead do the hard work of mining the meaning of their desert moments, modeling the simple truth that is often forgotten in the pursuit of surviving the trip to the top of the mother of all mountains: all we really need to be is love.

At the Breast
"I can't recommend this book highly enough!" -Katha Pollitt In our ironic, "postfeminist" age few experiences inspire the kind of passions that breastfeeding does. For advocates, breastfeeding is both the only way to supply babies with proper nutrition and the "bond" that cements the mother/child relationship. Mother's milk remains "natural" in a world of genetically modified produce and corporate health care. But is it a realistic option for all women? And can a well-intentioned insistence on the necessity of breastfeeding become just another way to cast some women as bad mothers? "At the Breast is feminist research of the highest order, setting a standard for how the work ought to be done. . . What is striking and admirable about [Blum's] analysis is that in a discussion that has been almost entirely subsumed in concerns about what is best for babies, Blum focuses unwaveringly on mothers, on women as minded social beings." -Barbara Katz Rothman, American Journal of Sociology "[Blum] discovers that in the contemporary world such an ancient and seemingly natural procedure as breastfeeding is embedded in a plethora of historical, political, racial, and economic contexts. . . . For the modern feminist, Blum concludes, the choice between the bottle or the breast should proceed from a careful assessment of the woman's own needs and desires." -Kirkus Reviews "In the hands of Linda Blum, breastfeeding is a locus for conversations between women in different race and class locations about the female body, children's needs, and the legitimizing role of fathers." -Ellen Ross, author of Love and Toil: Motherhood in Outcast London, 1870-1918 "At the Breast is sociology at its best-we think of breastfeeding as 'natural' but of course it is social and cultural too. Blum's discussion of how race and class shape women's attitudes toward breastfeeding-and their chances of success with it-was a revelation to me." -Katha Pollitt, columnist, The Nation Linda M. Blum is author of Between Feminism and Labor: The Significance of the Comparable Worth Movement. She teaches sociology and women's studies at the University of New Hampshire, and wrote this book while a Bunting Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Raising a Responsible Child
It has often been said: Give a man a fish, and he has food for a day. Teach him to fish, and he can provide for himself over a lifetime.Raising a Responsible Child explains the phenomenon of the "overindulgent parent"--who helps and protects too much -- and the "underdeveloped child"--who never really learns to stand on his or her own feet.Today many parents are especially prone to shower their children with love and attention and attempt to minimize stress by doing for them. In the scurry of modern life, parents often can't resist giving in to children's demands or solving their problems just to keep the peace. While this is basically a loving approach, it does not teach children how to be responsible and independent. Parents learn the hard way that their overindulgence does more harm than good: their children will only come to them with more demands and act helpless in the face of new problems. If you find yourself entrenched in this pattern, you can change by using a system of consistent, straight forward, and logical rules every day. You can teach your children to take responsibility for their actions and earn their privileges -- and you will find, perhaps to your surprise, that they are willing and ready to do so.Some of the issues this book will help you to deal with are: -- The whiny and overly demanding preschooler-- The small child who throws tantrums in public to get his way-- The older child who is inconsiderate of family members-- The teenager who is constantly late for school-- The young adult, who can't get her life together and mooches off her parents indefinitely. Many parents discover that the tried-and-true methods detailed here not only help their children handle emotions in a more mature and constructive manner but also result in higher self-esteem and a happier outlook on life.

Metamorphosis (annotated with author Biography)
"Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka is an enigmatic exploration of the human psyche that unfolds like a surreal tapestry, weaving threads of existentialism, isolation, and the absurd. At its heart is the protagonist, Gregor Samsa, whose ordinary life is irrevocably altered when he awakens one morning to discover he has metamorphosed into a grotesque insect. Kafka's prose, hauntingly beautiful, captures the essence of Gregor's inner turmoil and the profound alienation that ensues. The novella's power lies in its ability to transcend the confines of the ordinary and plunge readers into a disconcerting world where reality blurs with the surreal. Through the lens of Gregor's transformation, Kafka unravels the complexities of the human condition, laying bare the fragility of identity and the inherent struggle for acceptance. The physical metamorphosis is merely the surface; beneath lies a profound psychological transformation. Gregor's struggle to reconcile his insectoid form with his human consciousness becomes a poignant metaphor for the universal quest for self-discovery. The narrative is a labyrinth of introspection, with Gregor navigating the maze of his own mind, grappling with the echoes of societal expectations and the relentless pressure to conform. Kafka's writing is an intricate dance between the tangible and the abstract. The claustrophobic atmosphere of Gregor's room mirrors the psychological confinement he endures, a stark contrast to the bustling world outside. The tension between the mundane and the bizarre amplifies the narrative's intensity, immersing readers in a dreamlike realm where the boundaries between reality and illusion blur. As the story unfolds, familial dynamics take center stage. Gregor's transformation triggers a cascade of reactions from his family, revealing the fragility of human relationships when faced with the inexplicable. The emotional distance that emerges paints a poignant portrait of isolation, not just of the transformed Gregor, but of each family member trapped in their own cocoon of despair. Kafka's narrative, while disquieting, is a testament to his masterful storytelling. Each word is a brushstroke on the canvas of existentialism, creating a vivid tableau that lingers in the reader's mind. The symbolism, whether in the form of the insect or the alienation, invites contemplation, leaving room for diverse interpretations and sparking conversations that transcend the boundaries of time and culture. "Metamorphosis" is not merely a novella; it is an invitation to delve into the recesses of one's consciousness. Kafka challenges readers to confront the inexplicable, to question the very nature of humanity, and to ponder the profound implications of metamorphosis beyond the confines of the narrative. As the final pages unfold, the echoes of Gregor's transformation reverberate, leaving an indelible mark on the literary landscape and a timeless legacy that continues to captivate readers across the globe.
