Sylvie and Bruno
Sylvie and Bruno (1889) is a novel by Lewis Carroll. Originally conceived as a pair of short stories published in Aunt Judy's Magazine in 1867, Sylvie and Bruno eventually became a full length, two-volume novel. Although less popular than his Alice books, the novel remains a powerful example of Carroll's imaginative range and ability to capture the surreal nature of everyday life. "The Warden, a tall dignified man with a grave but very pleasant face, was seated before a writing-table, which was covered with papers, and holding on his knee one of the sweetest and loveliest little maidens it has ever been my lot to see. She looked four or five years older than Bruno, but she had the same rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes, and the same wealth of curly brown hair." While traveling by train to a long-overdue doctor's appointment, a middle-aged historian slips in and out of sleep. Each time, he enters a dream world where fairies and elves go about their lives without noticing his presence. Gradually, he becomes aware of a plot to overthrow the Warden orchestrated by Sub-Warden Sibimet and his wife Tabikat. Tricked into giving the Sub-Warden dictatorial powers, the Warden embarks to serve as Monarch of Fairyland. Soon, a Mad Gardener arrives and directs Sylvie and Bruno to follow him to a bizarre underground lair. This edition of Lewis Carroll's Sylvie and Bruno is a classic work of English literature reimagined for modern readers. Sylvie and Bruno Concluded
Sylvie and Bruno Concluded (1893) is a novel by Lewis Carroll. "I missed the pleasant friends I had left behind at Elveston [...] but, perhaps more than all, I missed the companionship of the two Fairies-or Dream-Children, for I had not yet solved the problem as to who or what they were-whose sweet playfulness had shed a magic radiance over my life." While traveling by train to a long-overdue doctor's appointment, a middle-aged historian slips in and out of sleep. Each time, he enters a dream world where fairies and elves go about their lives without noticing his presence. Gradually, he begins to interact with the figures in his dreams and feels strangely attached to the young Sylvie and Bruno. In the waking world, his best friend Dr. Arthur Forester risks his life in order to care for the sick in a village undergoing a deadly fever outbreak. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk. Nor does she care to spend time with another new arrival: her dashing and insufferably handsome academic rival Wendell Bambleby, who manages to charm the townsfolk, muddle Emily's research, and utterly confound and frustrate her. Tall Tales of Malaysia
Tall Tales of Malaysia is a collection of 18 vivid and memorable short stories about life in the Federation of Malaysia. The stories vary greatly in scope and theme. However, taken together, they capture the distinctive flavour of the people and states that make up modern Malaysia, its exotic rainforest, its diverse races, its indigenous people and their belief in ghosts, djinns and bomohs. There is a good deal of flashback to the colonial era and some mention of the legacy issues which still remain. The stories are entirely fictional and belong to the rich oral tradition of storytelling across Southeast Asia. Tall Tales of Malaysia are refreshingly different. They are gripping and a joy to read.
Grimmer Tales
A sci-fi/fantasy revival 200+ years in the making. When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm started putting out their now-classic fairy tales more than two centuries ago, their work was revolutionary. Although we can now look back on those fairy tales and see in them elements that have become cultural touchstones, there was nothing like them at the time. It was because they were so unique and so captivating that people could not get enough of them. Parents shared them with their children, grandparents shared them with their grandchildren, and friends shared them with each other. All the same, even the greatest innovations and the most engaging stories can use a refresh once in a while. That is what this compendium is about. Rather than reprinting the Grimm fairy tales that we all know and love, we have brought together eight giants of sci-fi/fantasy to reimagine and reinvigorate them. These giants are: Arlene Marks Ed Greenwood Gama Martinez LJ Hachmeister Lucienne Diver Richard Lee Byers Susan Morris Vivian Caethe Some boasting best-seller status, some emerging with voices unlike any other, each of these authors has carefully crafted a dark-fantasy or science-fiction version of a Grimm fairy tale. Within the compendium, you will find never-before-told iterations of "Sleeping Beauty," "Hansel and Gretel," "Snow White," "The Robber Bridegroom," and more. Online dating, H. H. Holmes's Murder Castle, and the malevolent forces of Hell all add strange twists to the formats that the Brothers Grimm left for us. There is a surprise on every page - and every surprise wonderfully reminiscent of tropes passed down through the generations.
Above the Surface
A fairytale of two characters reflecting off each other to find out who they really are. It is a fresh twist on an ancient story of interconnection via a journey above and below the surface. Through a mix of prose, poetry, and illustration the authors draw us into reaches of their own mythical landscape.
Fairytale Stew
Fairytale Stew follows the exploits of the quirky and sarcastic Ducatsnatch, as he travels around Fairy Tale Land, encountering all the best loved characters from rhyme and fable. Ducatsnatch is enlisted by the dangerous Brothers Grimm to undo the spell, fairytale stew, that his employer, the Dread-Witch Queen Xyzz, has cast upon their land in order to enact revenge on all its inhabitants. As he attempts to reverse the diabolical spell that has mixed up the stories and their characters, Ducatsnatch gets increasingly exasperated at the way that the characters are all constrained by the conventions of fairy tales and the stereotypes of their personalities. However, the attentions of Fairy Tale Land's heroines and the shining example of the heroes spur him on to a great showdown against his ex-boss, the Dread-Witch Queen Xyzz. However, he will need more than his cutting humour and irreverent look at the folk of Fairy Tale Land to beat the driven Xyzz.
Stories of Kai Lung
An itinerant impoverished storyteller travels through ancient China, encountering a series of hazards, and overcoming them through relating his tales. Filled with droll humor and charm, the two volumes collected here (The Wallet of Kai Lung and Kai Lung's Golden Hours) are the first of several such collections by an English author highly-regarded by such contemporaries as H.G. Wells and Jerome K. Jerome.

The Scandinavian Aggressors
An offbeat odyssey into the freezing heart of the modern NorthlandsThe Scandinavian Aggressors chronicles Rowdy Geirsson's tireless quest to uncover the secret history of the early 21st century's resurgence of authentic viking activity known as the Modern Viking Movement. Along the way he meets modern viking luminaries such as Trond "Troll-Breath" Trondsen, who successfully raided a historic monastery's gift shop in England; Bj繹rn Svensson, who habitually recited classic rock lyrics at the site of each of his infamous berserkings; and Ingrid T繹rnblom, who founded an elite warrior sisterhood that drew comparisons to the Spartans of ancient Greece, the Samurai of feudal Japan, and perhaps most flattering of all, the Jedi Knights of the Intergalactic Republic. Encounters with additional Neo-Norse individuals augment the journey, revealing long-hidden details about the slaying of a creepy troll in Beowulf's homeland, the brewing of craft beer from within pagan burial mounds, and the suffering of horrendous digestive problems amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of Iceland's remarkable landscape.Topical, informative, and highly insightful, The Scandinavian Aggressors not only provides essential reading for anyone with even a remote interest in the Modern Viking Movement, but also spins a darn good yarn about the fragility of the Scandinavian condition."Funny as hell! Kind of like Rolling Stone for the ?lfabl籀t crowd." -Scott Oden, author of A Gathering of Ravens and Twilight of the Gods"This is one of the most entertaining books I've read in a long time. Geirsson's journey through the Modern Viking Movement is a feat of exploration worthy of Leif Eriksson himself. Witty, informative, thought provoking, and at times laugh-out-loud funny, there is something here for everyone from scholars of medieval Icelandic sagas to fans of Bill Bryson, and particularly for those who are both."-Tim Hodkinson, author of The Whale Road Chronicles

Kevin’s Inferno
"Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita...In the middle of life's journey...Well not quite the middle for me. Unlike Dante, I was only twenty-five when I was taken on my journey through the netherworld. Taken by whom? I have to name God as the ultimate trip planner, but He assigned a distinguished guide the task of accompanying me on the many legs of the journey. Dante had a poet guide him through Hell, the poet Virgil, but I was given a different guide, a philosopher whom you will meet. Perhaps Virgil was not up to a second trip. Once is enough!" So opens Kevin's Inferno. Spend thirty-four calendar days with Kevin O'Rourke, days and evenings in Brooklyn, nights in Hell, following in the footsteps of the immortal Dante Alighieri. You will never forget the journey.

The Taste of Rain and Other Stories
This collection of modern fiction spans many decades and celebrates a diversity of authors, nationalities and locations. The stories are inhabited by characters who are at times naturalistic and at others an embodiment of the imaginary world they inhabit. From the mystical elements of the title story to the mythical dancers in Ghostly Laughter and the quirky characters of Dotty and Blacky, these stories draw the reader into a world of shifting realities, questioning relationships and morally diverse individuals inhabiting a whole range of worlds from the mundane to the fantastic. The key to gripping fiction is a keen observation of human nature, not always manifested in broad, sweeping landscapes of emotion, but often in the minutiae of human life and spaces in between our existence. Above all, these stories offer variety, pathos and contemplation, combined with an occasional surprise and a touch of humour. 'A triumph of emotion and imagination'

It is the story of a young girl, the daughter of the King and Queen, who at her christening is cursed to have no gravity by the uninvited Princess Makemnoit, sister to the King, and a spiteful bitter woman. As a result of the curse, the princess is in constant danger of being carried away by the wind and grows up never taking anything seriously. The only time when she doesn't float away is when she is swimming and she can be a normal girl again. While swimming one day, a lonely prince sees her, falls in love, and vows to help her end the curse so that they can wed. In true fairy tale fashion, the prince must perform a great and daring deed to save the lonely princess and rescue their world from the cruel Princess Makemnoit, who will stop at nothing to see the princess denied her happily ever after. A captivating, romantic and whimsical tale, "The Light Princess" is one of George MacDonald's most beloved and enduring stories. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
