Andy Warhol's New York City
Andy, Andy everywhere. Twenty-three years after his death, few figures hover over New York City--its art, its street life, its commerce, its creativity, its nightlife, its myths, and its idea of itself--like Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol's New York City provides a panoramic view of the artist's life there from the fifties through the eighties. Eighty sites associated with the artist careen delightfully from coffee shops to museums, from disco clubs to churches, with dozens of glamorous and gritty places in between. Fashionistas will love reading about the rare pretzel-print dress Warhol designed (now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and seeing him looking like a character out of Mad Men as he's photographed on the steps of the Met; cineastes will be riveted to the behind-the-scenes stories of his films; art lovers will appreciate the comprehensive listing of his many shows; and New York City history buffs will savor glimpses of the city's icons--vanished (Schrafft's), current (Serendipity 3), and never-realized (the Andy-Mat). There are sidebars on Warhol's residences, favorite restaurants, and factories. Brief biographies of figures in the book familiarize the reader with the revolving cast of glittering characters that enter and leave the stage as Warhol's story unfolds. Nine original drawings in the book were made specially for Andy Warhol's New York City by the artist Vito Giallo, a former studio assistant of Warhol's who executed hundreds of Warhol's ink blot drawings, and who later owned the antique store where Warhol bought thousands of items that were posthumously auctioned at Sotheby's.

Montana Campfire Tales
"No one in Montana today knows the history of the state as well as Dave Walter does. These campfire stories truly make our history come alive, putting flesh on the bones of the usual narratives." -MICHAEL MALONE, AUTHOR OF The Battle for Butte: Mining and Politics onthe Northern Frontier 1864-1906 "In these fourteen essays, Dave Walter gives us what K. Ross Toole repeatedly called for: grass-roots history that both entertains and educates. More than a skilled historian, Walter is the consummate storyteller. Whether setting background to the ongoing "wolf wars," recounting tragic episodes in relations between the races in Montana, or describing the real-life adventures of some of the territory's and the state's most colorful characters, Walter tells his stories in graphic detail-often tingeing the tale with his wry humor. Walter has chosen his stories craftily; each one is steeped in human interest, and in the hands of this masterful historian/storyteller, that interest is raised to its most engaging level." -LINDA PEAVEY AND URSULA SMITH, AUTHORS OF Women in Waiting in the Western Movement: Life on the Home Frontier "Made from Montana's unique historical mosaic, this exceptionally well-tailored collection has deep pockets lined with the finest storytelling fabric in the state." -DARRELL ROBES KIPPPiegan Institute

Rocky Mountain Flora
* More than 100 new wildflowers and plants were added to this second edition * Complete, concise, and easy to use with a new design * Authoritative authorship that sets a new standard for flora field guides Most wildflower enthusiasts have several or more books on wildflowers in their libraries, but if you can only have one wildflower book in your pack, make it Rocky Mountain Flora. Wildflower identification is a difficult endeavor. A common name in one region of the Rockies can be called something totally different someplace else. And scientific names have been jostled a bit over the years by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The only answer to the problem is to have a horticulturist, who has spent his life hiking the foothills and mountains of Colorado with camera and notebook in hand, write a field guide. Jim Ells spent 25 years working on his first edition of Rocky Mountain Flora. One of the many new features of this second edition is it now includes photographs of both the flower and plant to aid in identification. An additional feature of the second edition is that some of the photos from the first edition have been upgraded with the help of volunteer wildflower photographers. Organized by color and then alphabetically by family name and genus, Rocky Mountain Flora has images of each flower and the entire plant, and detailed descriptions of stems, leaves, and flowers and includes the specific location, elevation, and time of the year the flower was found. A special feature called "LOOK FOR" helps with quick plant identification.

In Search of the Golden West
The first transcontinental railroads brought fashionable easterners to the American West. In the 1880s and 1890s they traveled in sumptuous "palace cars" and stayed at luxury hotels. Westerners with an eye on promotion turned to what they took to be their own traditions. After 1900 a wilder West became popular; the Indian was rediscovered, and the cowboy returned to the saddle, if only during fiestas and rodeos. Increasing numbers of tourists headed for "natural curiosities" such as the sequoias of Yosemite and the geysers of Yellowstone. Then mass-produced automobiles and cheap air, rail, and bus fares changed the face of western tourism forever. In Search of the Golden West offers splendid old-time photographs and descriptions of nabobs, hucksters, naturalists, dudes, realtors, and motorists--all those who sought the reality and created the myth of the Golden West.

The Walls Talk
The Walls Talk: Historic House Museums of Colorado Thirty-seven historic homes, thirty-seven family stories. I wrote this book so that I could know the people who lived in these dwellings. I hope you enjoy knowing them, too. - Pat WernerThe house museums included in this book tell the stories of the families who lived in these dwellings. It was these stories that I wanted to bring to life. I had hoped to represent all the cultures that left behind dwellings that are now house museums and whose organizations wished them included. Sadly, no Native American dwellings of known families have survived in Colorado, so the rich culture of that thread is missing here. Many worthy living history museums were not included in this volume, as they were not family specific. Likewise, ruins, though some have been preserved at great expense, were not included. Historical museums housed in historic houses were not included unless the majority of their exhibits depicted the lives of those who dwelled within. Above all, I strived for complete accuracy, relying on primary sources as much as possible as well as personal conversations with directors and curators. The truth of these stories was fascinating enough. There was no need to embellish with the folklore that many of these places inherited from the 1960s and 1970s, when articles and oral histories paid little mind to accurate details. I wrote this book so that I could know the people who lived in these dwellings. I hope you enjoy knowing them, too.
