Attucks!
Attucks! is true story of the all-black high school basketball team that broke the color barrier in segregated 1950s Indiana, masterfully told by National Book Award winner Phil Hoose. By winning the state high school basketball championship in 1955, ten teens from an Indianapolis school meant to be the centerpiece of racially segregated education in the state shattered the myth of their inferiority. Their brilliant coach had fashioned an unbeatable team from a group of boys born in the South and raised in poverty. Anchored by the astonishing Oscar Robertson, a future college and NBA star, the Crispus Attucks Tigers went down in history as the first state champions from Indianapolis and the first all-black team in U.S. history to win a racially open championship tournament--an integration they had forced with their on-court prowess. From native Hoosier and award-winning author Phillip Hoose comes this true story of a team up against impossible odds, making a difference when it mattered most. Ready, Set, Grow
"Ready, Set, Grow" was designed for YOU! This book includes fifty-two weekly devotionals to help you learn more about Christ. Each devotional is composed of three main parts: "Ready," "Set," and "Grow." "READY" is defined as, "to prepare someone or something for an activity or purpose." This section of the devotional includes a personal story and message that should prepare you to absorb His truths and act upon them."SET" is defined as "to put, lay, or stand something in a specified place or position." This portion of the devotion contains multiple scripture verses. Scripture allows us to understand God's story and our position as His most treasured and beloved children. "GROW" is "to progress to maturity." The last portion of each devotion includes a personal challenge or activity that is intended to mature your faith through intentional actions.I chose to write a devotion that was weekly rather than daily for a very important reason. My prayer is that you would marinate on the contents of each devotion all week, reflecting on the story, memorizing the scriptures, and engaging in the suggested activities. Colossians 2:6-7 says, "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." My only goal in writing "Ready, Set, Grow" is to magnify the name of Christ. My prayer is that this book would allow you to draw nearer to Christ and learn more of His magnificent character and unending love. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him." God has big plans for you, so without further ado, Ready...Set...Grow!

The Adventures of Frog Doctor
The Adventures of Frog Doctor is a true tale about a beloved old tractor that is part of the family. The tractor plays an integral part of many people's lives in the rural Texas town, and is always ready and willing to help. It is told through the eyes of a little boy who gave the tractor its name, because of its engine sounds. Frog doctor shares many experiences with the family. Each adventure, no matter if it was simply a ride across town or having to work in adverse conditions, is told through a positive lens that is intended to show children that work is good. Moreover, it teaches that good can come from challenging circumstances, that people must take care of their life's implements and that everyone has a place within a community. In the end, the tractor goes away to be with another family, but not before making an indelible impression on the family's youngest son. Tom Gray grew up in rural Montague County Texas during the 1970s and 80s in a small farming community. He understood the value of a day's work at an early age by working on the family farm and for other nearby farmers. As an adult, he elected to pursue a life outside of agriculture and went on to complete his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. He now teaches management and finance at Dallas College while continuing to work as a management professional. Tom is married to his loving wife, Amy and they have twins Boone and Sullivan.

QUESTIONS AND IDEAS WHICH AROUSE CURIOSITY, PARTICIPATION AND A LITTLE STRETCHING OF THE MIND SEEMED TO STICK WITH HER BETTER THAN ACTIVITIES OF ROTE MEMORY OR FORMED PRE-SELECTED LECTURES. SHE LOVED QUESTIONS THAT CHALLENGED HER IMAGINATION AND WERE ENTERTAINING AND FUN AS WELL. PONDERING THESE THOUGHTS, IT OCCURRED TO HER THAT CHILDREN'S RIDDLES WOULD ENCOMPASS THESE ATTRIBUTES AND PERHAPS AID CHILDREN IN CONNECTING THE WRITTEN WORD TO THOUGHT AND PICTURES. HAVING WORKED AS A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, SHE UNDERSTANDS THE NEED TO FIRST CAPTURE A CHILD'S ATTENTION AND INTEREST BEFORE TEACHING ANYTHING. THEREFORE, SHE HAS CREATED A SERIES OF DIFFERENT AND VARIED RIDDLES RANGING FROM EVERYDAY ITEMS AND PLACES, TO ANIMALS, INSTRUMENTS AND FOOD. "WHAT AM I?" IS THE FIRST BOOK IN THIS SERIES WHICH WILL BE FOLLOWED BY, "WHO AM I?", AND, "WHERE AM I?" HER HOPE IS THESE BOOKS WILL HELP CHILDREN DEVELOP A LOVE OF READING AS WELL AS BEING ENTERTAINING AND FUN!
