Gabba Gabba We Accept You

Drag City 出版
2025/09/12 出版

Gabba Gabba We Accept You is a children's picture book that tells the story of how a kid who was bullied and felt like a misfit grew up to become a hero to so many as lead singer of The Ramones. This story speaks to one of the greatest silent majorities in the world - all the kids who feel a little off. It contains an essential message that the world of punk rock has always meant to communicate. All of us, regardless of our diverse and non-exclusive design, have something that we are meant to have and share, in a place that we can call our own. As children, these things may appear to many of us as problems and shortcomings. The challenging passages of life that brought Jeffrey Ross Hyman to the place where he became Joey Ramone provide a natural lesson to young folks navigating their way through the complexities of growing up. Working in collaboration with visual artist Lucinda Schreiber, Jay Ruttenberg guides the story of Gabba Gabba We Accept You in unexpected directions, with Lucinda's lyrical illustrations and colorful design opening the sense of possibility in what feels like the path less traveled on every page. "A magnificently exuberant dive into music history." - Kirkus

癒Mambo Mucho Mambo! the Dance That Crossed Color Lines

Dean,Robbins  著
2025/08/26 出版

"The Spanish text is both conversational and informative, liberally using such words as 'giraban, ' 'vibraban, ' and 'meneaba, ' which will allow readers to feel the electricity of this music and dance move as they read." --Booklist Millie danced to jazz in her Italian neighborhood. Pedro danced to Latin songs in his Puerto Rican neighborhood. It was the 1940s in New York City, and they were forbidden to dance together . . . until first a band and then a ballroom broke the rules. Machito and His Afro-Cubans hit the scene with a brand-new sound, blending jazz trumpets and saxophones with Latin maracas and congas to create Latin jazz, music for the head, the heart, and the hips. Then the Palladium Ballroom issued a bold challenge to segregation and threw open its doors to all. Illustrated with verve and told through real-life characters who feature in an afterword, 癒Mambo Mucho Mambo! portrays the power of music and dance to transcend racial, religious, and ethnic boundaries.

Art Education Through Religion

2025/08/14 出版

Art Education Through Religion is a series of graded textbooks on art and industrial design developed in the late 1920s by Mary Gertrude McMunigle, who was Director of Art for the Diocese of Pittsburgh at the time. This endeavor was overseen by two priests: Rev. Paul E. Campbell, A.M. LitD, who was then superintendent of Parochial Schools for the Pittsburgh Diocese, and Rev. Raymond V. Kirk, A.B. PhD, Dean of the College of Education of Duquesne University. Yes, this art curriculum actually has an imprimatur! Each lesson aims to improve the student's appreciation and skill in art, while at the same time imparting both spiritual and character objectives. Therefore the use of this series trains not only the eye, but the whole person, including the intellect and will. Students gain knowledge, self-control, accuracy, reverence, helpfulness and good manners, as well as many other useful life skills.Book Three introduces techniques in composition through basic concepts such as establishing a point of interest and guiding the eye of the viewer. Emphasis is placed on the discernment of pleasing proportion and color use, through activities that explore measurement for the sake of accuracy in design and further color theory. Purity and beauty of color and design is related to purity and beauty of the soul as the student explores topics of conscience and the sacraments. **An important note**: though the levels were designed to correspond with grades one through eight, they work best as a system. If a student in the third grade or above begins to use this series for the first time, it is recommended that they begin at least one or two levels previous to their current grade level, and not later than level five. Many of the concepts introduced at the upper grade levels may prove frustrating to successfully master without the foundations laid in these earlier grades.

Students gain knowledge, self-control, accuracy, reverence, helpfulness and good manners, as well as many other useful life skills.Book Four presents techniques in watercolor as a new addition to the student's skill set in drawing, paper cutting, and clay molding. As the lessons explore such principles as establishing a center of interest within compositions through the intentional use of color, rhythm, contrast, shapes, and forms to guide the eye, student interest is held and maintained through paper crafts set to themes of courage, missionary work, charity, purity, Easter and the Resurrection. Nature studies encourage students to explore sources of design and symbolism within the Church and world cultures.**An important note**: though the levels were designed to correspond with grades one through eight, they work best as a system. If a student in the third grade or above begins to use this series for the first time, it is recommended that they begin at least one or two levels previous to their current grade level, and not later than level five. Many of the concepts introduced at the upper grade levels may prove frustrating to successfully master without the foundations laid in these earlier grades.

Graphic design, composition, and page arrangement are introduced, along with the building blocks of color theory: primary versus binary colors, and tints. Religious and virtue-building themes from the first book are maintained, but augmented with nuances which the child can begin to appreciate as he or she attains a higher developmental level.**An important note**: though the levels were designed to correspond with grades one through eight, they work best as a system. Ancient Greek architecture is appreciated through discussion and clay modeling from photos. Intuition for the proper proportions of the human form is instilled through frequent practice of figure drawing and action studies, and lettering techniques learned through paper cutting in earlier lessons now transition to hand lettering skills.**An important note**: though the levels were designed to correspond with grades one through eight, they work best as a system. Carried Away

Stacia,Leigh  著
Espial Design 出版
2025/08/05 出版

"Let your imagination get carried away..."When the creative mood strikes, I'm ready. Out and about with my blackout poetry kit means instant access to an array of colored pencils, markers, a compass and ruler, a pencil sharpener, some book pages... Even with art tools spread out in front of me, I often don't know where to start. How many different ways can a page be filled? Where did my inspiration go? Sometimes all it takes is one little spark to stoke artistic energy and may come in the form of daily prompts, weekly challenges, or even playing a game of blackout BINGO. It begins the process of exploring materials, parameters, layouts, colors, mood, a subject, or pet- peeves and personal favorites. Having a problem or task to solve lights the fire, providing boundaries to push against, an opportunity to see things differently, an idea for a first step. Take it! And get carried away... Carried Away is a compilation of blackout poems and whimsical art inspired by simple, one-word prompts.
