The Way Of The Dodo Bird
Research tells us extinctions have been a natural part of our world's evolution Shockingly, it is estimated that more than 99% of the four billion species evolved on Earth are extinct. And (most importantly) it is also estimated that at least nine hundred went extinct in the just last five hundred years. And this is why we absolutely need to ask ourselves how we can protect this planet, because protecting this planet means we are also protecting ourselves. And if we don't act to protect this planet, we could also become extinct, just like the dodo bird! See: https: //ourworldindata.org/extinctionsThink about this as you have fun practicing your reading skills and building your reading word vocabulary using this fun, 'learn to read' book, written and illustrated by award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, that is filled with word recognition, word repetition and rhyme, all included to help make learning fun! And when you are all finished traveling through the pages of this book, you can go to Bellissimavideo's YouTube channel and you can watch the free, fun music video that goes with this book for even more learning fun!
Florence Nightingale to Her Nurses
Between 1872 and 1900 Miss Nightingale used, when she was able, to send an annual letter or address to the pro竅bationer-nurses of the Nightingale School at St. Thomas' Hospital, "and the nurses who have been trained there." These addresses were usually read aloud by Sir Harry Ver-ney, the chairman of the Nightingale Fund, in the presence of the probationers and nurses, and a printed copy or a lith竅ographed facsimile of the manuscript was given to each of the nurses present, "for private use only." A few also were written for the Nightingale Nurses serving in Edinburgh. The letters were not meant for publication, and indeed are hardly suitable to be printed as a whole as there is nat竅urally a good deal of repetition in them. Since Miss Night竅ingale's death, however, heads of nursing institutions and others have asked for copies of the addresses to be read or given to nurses, and her family hope that the publication of a selection may do something to carry further the intention with which they were originally written.

A History of English Literature
This book aims to provide a general manual of English Literature for students in colleges and universities and others beyond the high-school age. The first purpos-es of every such book must be to outline the development of the literature with due regard to national life, and to give appreciative interpretation of the work of the most important authors. The author has written the present volume because he has found no other that, to his mind, combines satisfactory accomplishment of these ends with a selection of authors sufficiently limited for clearness and with ade-quate accuracy and fullness of details, biographical and other. A manual, according to the author, should supply a systematic statement of the important facts, so that the greater part of the student's time, in class and without, may be left free for the study of the literature itself.
A Study of Poetry
The method of studying poetry which I have followed in this book was sketched some years ago in my chapter on "Poetry" in Counsel Upon the Reading of Books. My confidence that the genetic meth竅od is the natural way of approaching the subject has been shared by many lovers of poetry. I hope, however, that I have not allowed my insistence upon the threefold process of "impression, transforming imagination, and expression" to harden into a set formula. Formulas have a certain dangerous usefulness for critics and teachers, but they are a very small part of one's training in the appreciation of poetry. I have allotted little or no space to the specific discussion of epic and drama, as these types are adequately treated in many books. Our own generation is peculiarly attracted by various forms of the lyric, and in Part Two I have devoted especial attention to that field.
Language An Introduction to the Study of Speech
This book aims to give a certain perspective on the subject of language rather than to assemble facts about it. It has little to say of the ultimate psychological basis of speech and gives only enough of the actual descriptive or historical facts of particular languages to illustrate principles. Its main purpose is to show what we conceive language to be, what is its variability in place and time, and what are its relations to other fundamental human interests-the problem of thought, the nature of the historical process, race, culture, art.
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families disrupts the city of Verona and causes tragic results for Romeo and Juliet. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the young star-crossed lovers to grow up quickly-and fate causes them to commit suicide in despair. Contrast and conflict are running themes throughout Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet-one of the Bard's most popular romantic tragedies.
The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet's father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying his deceased brother's widow. Hamlet is Shakespeare's longest play, and is ranked among the most powerful and influential tragedies in English literature, with a story capable of "seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others".
How to Write Clearlyrules and Exercises on English Composition
Almost every student can be taught to write clearly, so far at least as clearness depends upon the arrangement of words. Force, elegance, and variety of style are more difficult to teach, and far more difficult to learn; but clear writing can be reduced to rules. To teach the art of writing clearly is the main object of these Rules and Exercises.

How to Write a Novel a Practical Guide to the Art of Fiction
This little book is one which so well explains itself such that the author felt no introductory word is needed; and he only ventures to intrude a sentence or two here with a view to explain the style in which he has conveyed his ideas. The author has desired to be plain and practical, and therefore chose the direct and epistolary form as being most suitable for the purpose in hand.
Modern English Literature
The intention of this book is to lay stress on ideas and tendencies that have to be understood and appreciated, rather than on facts that have to be learned by heart. Many authors are not mentioned and others receive scanty treatment, because of the necessities of this method of approach. The book aims at dealing with the matter of authors more than with their lives; consequently it contains few dates. All that the reader need require to help him have been included in a short chronological table at the end. To have attempted a severely ordered and analytic treatment of the subject would have been, for the author at least, impossible within the limits imposed, and, in any case, would have been foreign to the purpose indicated by the editors of the Home University Library. The book pretends no more than to be a general introduction to a very great subject, and it will have fulfilled all that is intended for it if it stimulates those who read it to set about reading for themselves the books of which it treats.
The Tragedie of Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar is a highly successful but ambitious political leader of Rome and his goal is to become an unassailable dictator. Caesar is warned that he must "beware the Ides of March". The prophecy comes true and Caesar is assassinated. Marcus Brutus is a well respected Roman senator who helps plan and carry out Caesar's assassination which he believes will rid Rome of a tyrant. Caesar's friend Mark Antony provides the famous funeral oration ("Friends, Romans, and countrymen..."). Brutus and Cassius meet their inevitable defeat. Brutus, the noble Roman, whose decision to take part in the conspiracy for the sake of freedom, plunges his country into civil war.
Much Ado about Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy by William Shakespeare thought to have been written in 1598 and 1599, as Shakespeare was approaching the middle of his career. The play was included in the First Folio, published in 1623. By means of ""noting"" (which, in Shakespeare's day, sounded similar to ""nothing"" as in the play's title, and which means gossip, rumour, and overhearing), Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar on the erroneous belief that she has been unfaithful. At the end, Benedick and Beatrice join forces to set things right, and the others join in a dance celebrating the marriages of the two couples.

A Manual of American Literature
This book has been prepared for publication as No. 4000, a "Memorial Volume," of the "Tauchnitz Edition." Perhaps it may be well to explain to American readers what the "Tauchnitz Edition" is and what a "Memorial Volume" is in this collection. The "Collection of British Authors," or, as it is more popularly known on the European Continent, the "Tauchnitz Edition," was instituted in 1841, at Leipsic, by one of the most distinguished of German publishers, the late Baron Bernhard Tauchnitz, whose son is now at the head of the house. The father records that he was "incited to the undertaking by the high opinion and enthusiastic fondness which I have ever entertained for English literature: a literature springing from the selfsame root as the literature of Germany, and cultivated in the beginning by the same Saxon race.... As a German-Saxon it gave me particular pleasure to promote the literary interest of my Anglo-Saxon cousins, by rendering English literature as universally known as possible beyond the limits of the British Empire." In another place, Baron Tauchnitz describes "the mission" of his Collection to be the "spreading and strengthening the love for English literature outside of England and her Colonies."
The Tragedy of Macbeth
Macbeth (full title The Tragedy of Macbeth) is a tragedy by William Shakespeare; it is thought to have been first performed in 1606. It dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enemity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.

On Liberty
Mill's first essays were written in the Traveller about a year before he entered the India House. From that time forward his literary work was uninterrupted save by attacks of illness. His industry was stupendous. He wrote articles on an infinite variety of subjects, political, metaphysical, philosophic, religious, poetical. He discovered Tennyson for his generation, he influenced the writing of Carlyle's French Revolution as well as its success. And all the while he was engaged in studying and preparing for his more ambitious works, while he rose step by step at the India Office. His Essays on Unsettled Questions in Political Economy were written in 1831, although they did not appear until thirteen years later. His System of Logic, the design of which was even then fashioning itself in his brain, took thirteen years to complete, and was actually published before the Political Economy. In 1844 appeared the article on Michelet, which its author anticipated would cause some discussion, but which did not create the sensation he expected. Next year there were the "Claims of Labour" and "Guizot," and in 1847 his articles on Irish affairs in the Morning Chronicle. These years were very much influenced by his friendship and correspondence with Comte, a curious comradeship between men of such different temperament. In 1848 Mill published his Political Economy, to which he had given his serious study since the completion of his Logic. His articles and reviews, though they involved a good deal of work-as, for instance, the re-perusal of the Iliad and theOdyssey in the original before reviewing Grote's Greece-were recreation to the student. The year 1856 saw him head of the Examiners' Office in the India House, and another two years brought the end of his official work, owing to the transfer of India to the Crown. In the same year his wife died. Liberty was published shortly after, as well as the Thoughts on Parliamentary Reform, and no year passed without Mill making important contributions on the political, philosophical, and ethical questions of the day.

Did you know that sight words comprise 80% of the words you would find in a typical children's book? Buy today and improve your child's communication skills with this wonderful 200 Fundamental Sight Words Workbook! Certainly, learning to write and read is one of the most important steps when it comes to developing the ability to communicate properly. Writing isn't only about expressing ideas in the text but also about thinking skills. It develops a strong bond between brain and hand and helps with memorizing more words. On the other hand, reading means knowledge and vocabulary expansion, improving focus and concentration. I can't stress enough how important these two abilities are for your kids! This is why you need to know about our book: It includes 200 Sight Words from the well-known Dolch and Fry high-frequency word lists. This workbook comes with visual instructions, sight words, and then sentences so that kids can understand the words contextually and an image to emphasize them. Because we want the children to have a sense of accomplishment as they go through the book we have decided to build it gradually with instructions at every step. The book begins with a short recapitulation of the alphabet. The kids can trace and practice uppercase and lowercase letters. Then, we move to sight words. Children are asked to recognize the word, read and then trace the sentence, and of course, practice on their own. To help them enjoy the process of learning, we have added images also that can be colored. The goal is for these words to be recognized immediately! Only after this kids can read more fluently and speed up the process of learning a language and that is because they can focus their attention on other words that are more difficult and challenging. It will be much easier to learn more complex words once these essential sight words are mastered. We have divided the book into four sections as follows: PART 1: Writing Uppercase and Lowercase lettersPART 2: Writing 1-2 letter wordsPART 3: Writing 3 letter wordsPART 4: Writing 4 letter wordsPART 5: Writing 5-6 letter words This activity book features: - High-quality glossy cover with gorgeous design - Improves your child's motor control - It helps them to focus on details- Teaches the child to read, write and comprehend each sight word- Includes visual instructions- The increasing difficulty, fun, and interesting- 8,5" x 11" book suitable for kids This workbook is part of the Isabela & Buzzy series which is ideal for kids of preschool, kindergarten, and primary school who want to perfect their writing skills.
