A Supreme Friendship

2026/01/16 出版

Two celebrated former Supreme Court justices take the spotlight in this insightful children's story about not letting strong differences get in the way of a good friendship. Ruth and Nino were best friends--who just happened to work together as judges on the United States Supreme Court, the highest court in the country. And while they both wanted what was best for all Americans, they also disagreed . . . a lot. But Ruth and Nino loved being challenged by each other, helping each other, and--at the end of the day--putting their differences aside to enjoy their friendship. They knew: "Disagree doesn't mean disrespect and differences don't mean enemies." A Supreme Friendship is a timely story about two Americans who found the similarities they shared mattered far more than their differences.

Underprivileged Overachiever

Y a,Salimu  著
2026/01/07 出版

Written with the ♥HEART♥ of a fighter! Readers unfamiliar with memoirs will be spoiled rotten by this book. These are quick short chapters with powerful impacts laced in every turn of the page."At age 14, I ran away, but not from home - because I never had one to begin with. At school I participated in every sport, club, and after-school activity, so that when the other kids finally left, I could settle in for the night by my locker. I spent my childhood dealing with gangs, drugs, violence, and my mother's mental illness, but the real enemy was always poverty." Y.A. Salimu almost feels too grown-up in this YA memoir as his compelling story occasionally shifts from gripping novel to raw ego, putting the reader right there in the city with him. Salimu's story is tough to listen to at times, but ROARS of laughter await anyone brave enough to walk in this man's shoes. Readers expecting a sad Oliver Twist tale will instead find a confident, talented protagonist who continually defies low expectations and inspires those around him. While there is language, sexual themes, and a full blown rape scene (did he really have to include the police report?) all of these are necessary and never done for shock factor. Underprivileged Overachiever is SHOCKING, but there are a butt-load of lessons to be learned here.

Marianna Martines

2025/12/02 出版

Marianna Martines (1744-1812) was one of eighteenth-century Vienna's most prominent composers. She received more acclaim than perhaps any other female composer of her time. Martines was a renowned singer as well as harpsichord player and composer. Empress Maria Theresa, the biggest musical patron in Vienna, was immensely taken with the young composer. Martines went on to perform for the Empress many times and may have even dedicated works to her. Martines was also one of the greatest composers of her time. She was an inspiration as a singer, keyboardist, event manager, concert organizer, teacher, and more. At a time when most male composers either worked for the church or a royal court, Martines was able to accomplish incredible things without formal employment. Martines's story is one of triumph, resilience and character. She didn't allow the limitations of the time to prevent her from pursuing a musical career and creating a name for herself as one of the most important figures in Vienna. Colorful illustrations plus photographs of meaningful sites and settings connect readers to important points in Martines's history. A timeline and "B Sharp" sidebars add details to the composer's life story.

Abolition and the African American Story

2025/11/21 出版

Until now, you've only heard one side of the story: how Abraham Lincoln defeated the Confederacy to end slavery, but the truth involves a vast network of abolitionists who would keep fighting for freedom long after the end of the war. Here's the true story of the Civil War and Reconstruction, from the African American perspective. A SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR By 1850, Africans had already been in the United States for nearly 300 years. Their labor created a strong economy and defined American society in profound ways, but their rights nearly tore the country apart, a century after its founding. The beginning of the Civil War marked a turning point: the beginning of a public fight to recognize African Americans as Americans. Though much of this played out on the battlefield, the real fight was going on in every corner of the country: North and South, free households and enslaved, in the halls of government and secret meetings. That fight didn't end when the South surrendered, and young people were central to the way abolitionists envisioned the future. From soldiers to public speakers to the Underground Railroad, this is the true story of the African American experience of the Civil War and Reconstruction.
