Humble Servant
As the Son of God, Jesus had it all-perfect communion with both the Father and the Holy Spirit and the glories of heaven. But Jesus left it all behind to humble himself, taking on our human flesh and suffering his whole life long and especially at the cross. In life Jesus faced humiliation through outright rejection. Even as he preached the gospel and performed mighty miracles, his enemies falsely accused him and even took up stones to kill him (John 5-9).So, why would the Son of God become a humble, suffering servant?Because Jesus cares deeply for you and all his people-those who know themselves to be spiritually blind, lame, and hungry. Read from the gospel of John and meditate on how he gave himself so that you might be made whole and be nourished unto eternal life.

Exodus
The Bible is one of the great works of world literature. The bible begins with Genesis, the creation of the world in seven days, the first two people Adam and Eve, their children and their children's children, the Hebrew people. Genesis leaves of with the Hebrews in Egypt which is where Exodus begins. The story of Exodus is the story of Moses leading the Hebrew people out of slavery from Egypt and to the promised land of Israel. This secular style version is meant to provide a good retelling of Exodus from a neutral perspective, without any of the subtle proselytizing that can often be found in children's books about religion. We follow Moses from his birth, to him fleeing Egypt, his meeting with the burning bush, return to Egypt, the ten plagues, ten commandments and Moses not quite making it to Israel. Exodus is a wonderful and timeless story. The book is by no means a complete retelling of Exodus, rather it is a quick introduction meant to familiarize kids with the story. Appropriate for children somewhere between the ages of 4 and 8.

When a death occurs, it impacts the entire family system, and further impacts each individual. While the pages of this book are etched with pain, they are encased in hope. This is an insightful and inspiring story, written in the honest voice of a mother who has lost her son. In sharing Higher Than the Heavens, Lucero-Mills shares the personal testimony of her family. Poems are simply crucial thoughts crafted from carefully chosen creative words. They are a nonthreatening, whimsical way to touch on all sorts of topics. Funny verses like "Higgledy Piggledy moppin top" about handling emotions, or ones mentioning a pig who thought he could fly, can lead to serious, prayerful discussions. Here are one hundred original poems for God's children about topics that matter to all ages: making mistakes, having fun, feeling jealous, doing hard things, God's love, talking to pets, struggling with hairstyles, and going to a new school. These poems are to enjoy reading aloud, to inspire conversations with children about their feelings or bad days, and to help them walk with Jesus joyfully in challenging times. Most importantly, the Bible verses of hope and faith linked to each poem will inspire confidence throughout life. (And they give even serious, forgetful adults a chance to once again see the world through children's eyes!) It is more crucial than ever to talk about difficult topics with children and encourage them to walk through all challenges with Jesus beside them. -Lisa Ambler
