The Star of Mrs. Nicks
"An inspiring story that is destined to become a beloved Christmas classic, one that rekindles hope in the hearts of all children, both young and old!"Gudrun Wegner"Awesome! Enchanting! I felt like I was a kid again, hearing my bedtime story. A miraculous story that I 'm sure will touch the hearts of many. Praise God!"Julianne BrooksDear friends that I don't yet know, This story still touches me! I am amazed every time I read it-and I wrote it! It was total inspiration. At the time I wrote The Star of Mrs. Nicks, I was the mother of three preschool children and doing laundry-as usual! It was getting close to Christmas, and I began to daydream. I could see this old stone house, which I had often driven by. It was overgrown with bushes and vines and I often wondered who may have lived there.Suddenly I felt the urge to write. "The snowflakes fell a fluffy veil..." and it began! It was all I could do to tear myself from my pencil to change loads of laundry!A few hours later the "story poem" was complete. I wrote this poem over twenty years ago. Two years ago, I read it to an elementary class, and they loved it! They wanted copies and even wanted my autograph. I told them I would get copies or have it published. The story has a mysteryabout it that captures your heart and interest until the story is told. You can't put it down until it is done-because you don't want to!I want to thank UCB, the people at Essence, the young people at the elementary schools who loved this story, my family and God for the inspiration that all of them have given me that has brought about the publishing of The Star of Mrs. Nicks. May God's will be done, and may God bless you!

It doesn't help the situation that Prokopē Bay (pronounced praw-kaw-pay), the a small tourist island where he lives, is just out of reach from the mainland. The island is home to thousands of birds, but as a seagull, the only ones he ever hears about are crows. Like it or not, the seagulls and the crows both need food to survive; and as scavengers that means competition. That is why Nathan's father, Adikos, must lead his people in the ongoing war against the crows while still protecting them from the newcomers to town, the Harris's Hawks, who took Nathan's mother and left Adikos to raise him alone. It's a fight for food on the island that has lasted for so long, nobody really even knows why it continues. Nathan, however, could care less. He craves the outside world and all it can offer that his nest can't. In his attempt to seek that freedom, however, a tragedy occurs that leaves him stranded on a distant beach with no idea how to get back home. It will take all of his courage, and the help of his new friends Chester, a bottlenose dolphin, and Bill, a sea lion, and a crow named Windy (not Wendy as she always has to correct), for Nathan to return home. Little does he know that in the process, he will also learn the value of family, friendship, and teamwork.

How Much Does God Love the Birds?
We often worry about things that are out of our control; it is human nature. We devise plans to solve every problem that could possibly arise, losing sight of Who is in control. God reminds us many times throughout His Word that He is in control and will supply our every need according to His will.He does this numerous times throughout scripture by comparing His children to the birds of the air. In the book of Matthew, Jesus asks us to consider the birds. They cannot sow, harvest, or store but always have exactly what they need. Jesus reassures us that we have more value than many birds and should take no thought for tomorrow. How great His love truly is!So just as the birds praise and glorify His name, let all His children do the same!
