The Stars in April
2023 Christian Indie Awards Finalist2022 SCWC Notable Book Award Winner Young Adult CategoryBased on the True Story of Twelve-Year-Old Titanic Survivor, Ruth Becker"Sometimes we have to go a long way to find out who we are." The year is 1912. When doctors in India are unable to treat her baby brother's illness, Ruth's missionary parents decide there is one solution: move her mother and the children across the world-to Michigan. But India is the only home Ruth knows. In a matter of days, she must leave Papa and all she loves behind, abandon her dream of one day playing violin in the Calcutta Orchestra, and embark on a rollicking, four-week journey across the Arabian and Mediterranean Seas, followed by the voyage to New York aboard the luxurious, ill-fated RMS Titanic. Ruth's story is one of courage and self-sacrifice as she earns her sea legs and faces the unknown, culminating in a desperate, tragic night she will never forget."I feel as though I'm sitting in Ruth's apartment and she is sharing her life story with me ... so very well-written ... one can hardly stop reading."-Floyd Andrick, former Titanic Historical Society member and personal friend of Ruth BeckerCurriculum Guide available to Common Core State Standards for Grades 5-8 at www.peggywirgau.com.

Sibling Rivalry
My reasons for writing this book grew from the current state of social behavior (peer pressure) among our children. Sometimes we don't recognize that things that may seem simple or small to one person are a big issue to someone else. We should be more accepting of others' differences or preferences. We also have to recognize that today, it may take two parents working from home or outside of the home to support the family household. Therefore, the parents have to trust that the older siblings will watch and care for the younger siblings. My older siblings cared for the three little kids (which included me) when my mother had to make a living for our family. Once she left for work, there was no vehicle around. We lived out in the country thirty minutes away from any hospital, so my siblings were given a lot of responsibility. We were raised to go to church every Sunday, rain or shine. We really didn't have an excuse for not going to church since the church was at the top of the hill, and it took less than five minutes to walk there. It was at that little country church we learned to accept people for who they were and how to treat others within church.I believe if we teach our children love and respect for themselves as well as others, we can eliminate bullying. In the Christian faith, all that is asked of us is that we be obedient to God's Word and that we love one another.

Sarah’s Solo
Sarah is disappointed when she must miss dancing her solo at the upcoming ballet recital to go to her cousin's wedding. But as she explores some of the Jewish customs at the wedding, she begins to realize how much her own culture's traditions have to offer. Stories Between the Lines
In the Bible, John 21:25 says, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books which were written." Inspired by New Testament events, Stories between the Lines explores those "other things" in vivid, entertaining detail. Featuring Lazarus, the apostle Paul's nephew, the demoniac, and Rhoda, author Nita Barnes also imagines three additional stories of how Jesus might have impacted other young people, one of which revisits the wonder of the Christmas story. All events are cited to keep the reader on track by what actually happened and what the author imagined might have occured. These stories introduce Jesus's extreme love and saving power to those both familiar and unfamiliar with the Bible and encourages readers to consider the many things Jesus did. Connect and identify with the New Testament in fresh, profound ways with the help of fictionailzed stories pulled right from its pages.
The Cornerstone
The Cornerstone is a children's book about a little girl who fortuitously gained information that would forever help her in her walk with God. Marie and her mother, who is a single parent, lived with her mother's parents. They lived alone and had a room in their home for Marie and her mother. Marie's mother worked a lot and occasionally had to travel out of town and leave Marie behind. Like some children, Marie didnt like being left behind but there was nothing she could do. She often stood and wondered, when her mother pulled away, about the experiences she could have had if she had been allowed to go. Marie's grandfather was a wise old Christian gentleman and had a lot of knowledge to share. Being inquisitive, as most children are, gained Marie some valuable information. Whenever her grandfather spoke with his deep bass voice she listened to him. Making sure that she understood completely, she felt comfortable sharing what she had learned with others and anxiously awaited a time to share. When children are shy about talking, they are more likely to have a desire to speak up when they feel knowledgeable about a topic.Dr. Scruggs has had a lifelong interest in educating not only her own children but others as well. The Cornerstone may be read by an adult to a child so that questions can be answered and other nuggets of truth can be given or it may be read by the child. The book was written with the hope that children will gain a clear understanding of the importance of God in our life. This book could also be used as a read-aloud. The book has illustrations that could enhance the meaning of the book's content. When the book is read, the pictures can be shown and discussed. It is my prayer that The Cornerstone will be a great blessing to all who read it.
