My Easter Story

2017/04/06 出版

Some family traditions we carry with us from childhood into our adult lives. The memories are stored in the very depth of our souls. As children it did not matter ones' religion, race, or social status; holidays may be celebrated in different ways, but we have that common thread; we celebrate with our loved ones and create memories that last a lifetime. Easter is one of the holidays that may take on a different name depending on religion, place of residence, or ethnic culture, but the traditional celebrations are similar. Such is the tradition with the writer's family. Maria Hoskins recalls how fun, exciting, and special Easter preparation and Easter Sunday activities were during her childhood, especially at her Grandmother's house. Maria hopes each reader will enjoy her Easter story and recall those moments when things like finding a basket of colored and candy eggs felt and tasted like there was nothing else better in the whole wide world.

Twentieth-Century Caesar: Benito Mussolini

Sky Pony 出版
2017/02/21 出版

Benito Mussolini was a man of many contradictions but with one driving ambition: to rule Italy and restore it to the power and splendor of the ancient Roman Empire, with himself as the new Caesar. He became the founder of the Fascist movement and dictator of all of Italy. The son of a poor blacksmith who was an ardent Socialist, Mussolini grew up in an atmosphere of political agitation. He taught school for a brief time and then became a fiery journalist, attacking the government with a violence that caused him to be imprisoned eleven times before he was thirty. He was a genuine idealist, but he was also an opportunist. Mussolini used his influence to get Italy into World War I by accepting a bribe from France, thus betraying his cause. Mussolini's weaknesses were dramatically revealed by the fantastic blunders he committed during the war and by the swift collapse of his Fascist party under pressure. As defeat followed defeat, he was arrested but escaped to northern Italy, where he became head of a puppet government set up by Hitler. When World War II ended, he was executed.

Scissortown (Faith-Based Application)

2017/02/08 出版

How does a small town--well-ordered and supremely manicured--look after invasion by a horde of pink-slippered "Slicers and Dicers" who cause the townspeople to hide all their cutting tools? And then, how does life go on when nobody can cut anything at all? While it is pure fantasy, Scissortown was written for another purpose besides entertainment--promotion of kindness and initiative in even the youngest of children. A faith-based application on the inside back cover promotes these qualities in the follow-up to this humorous, engaging tale. Although Scissortown was written for children from the ages of 4 to 8, younger and older children--and their grown-ups--are enjoying it, too! Also available without Bible references as Scissortown (Life Application).

Sherrill Schlimpert knew the value of "bibliotherapy" long before she knew the term. Knowing how a good book can help children try on emotions, character traits and values, she also knows how books can take a child to places and experience feelings they might not have yet experienced in their young lives. As a Sunday school teacher, a facilitator of many Bible studies and retreats, a life coach for Life Purpose Coaching Centers, Intl., she also knows how only God has the true answers for life that self-help books can only touch. She offers these "Wise Words for the Whys of Life" as a sequel to the poems that she is convinced God gave her to keep her awake in the many miles she traveled as a reading coach to schools and eventually published in her book of devotional poetry, Cream for Your Coffee.

Answering the Cry for Freedom

Ingram 出版
2016/10/04 出版

Uncover the lives of thirteen African-Americans who fought during the Revolutionary War. Even as American Patriots fought for independence from British rule during the Revolutionary War, oppressive conditions remained in place for the thousands of enslaved and free African Americans living in this country. But African Americans took up their own fight for freedom by joining the British and American armies; preaching, speaking out, and writing about the evils of slavery; and establishing settlements in Nova Scotia and Africa. The thirteen stories featured in this collection spotlight charismatic individuals who answered the cry for freedom, focusing on the choices they made and how they changed America both then and now. These individuals include: Boston King, Agrippa Hull, James Armistead Lafayette, Phillis Wheatley, Elizabeth "Mumbet" Freeman, Prince Hall, Mary Perth, Ona Judge, Sally Hemings, Paul Cuffe, John Kizell, Richard Allen, and Jarena Lee. Includes individual bibliographies and timelines, author note, and source notes.

I would like to dedicate this book to my new grandson Levi Cannon who was born July 13th, 2011. Peggy Throldahl lives in Minnesota with her Husband Mike. They have three children, Rachel, Rebecca, and Joshua. She loves being a mother and now a Grandmother! She also enjoys playing the guitar and singing. "I am so blessed because Jesus has made everything right in my life. I thank Him for my awesome family and the life I have found in Him! I hope this book will be a blessing to children of all ages." Creation comes from the creator our heavenly father. When we create, art as an example, it is an extension of him . He once told me that my art brings one of the most wonderful things to his creation; a smile. That is my goal as an artist. Bringing smiles and glory to my father in heaven and his creation. Kathie Walker Mark 10:15 "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

Where Is the Amazon?

Bantam Dell 出版
2016/05/24 出版

Without risking life or limb, readers can explore the wonders and beauty of the Amazon in this Where Is...? title. Human beings have inhabited the banks of the Amazon River since 13,000 BC and yet they make up just a small percentage of the "population" of this geographic wonderland. The Amazon River basin teems with life--animal and plant alike. It's a rainforest that is home to an estimated 390 billion individual trees, 2.5 million species of insects, and hundreds of amazing creatures and plants that can either cure diseases, or, like the poison dart frog, kill with a single touch. Where Is the Amazon? reveals the amazing scale of a single rainforest that we are still trying to understand today and that, in many ways, supports our existence on this planet.

I Will Always Write Back

Ingram 出版
2016/05/03 出版

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The true story of an all-American girl, a boy from Zimbabwe, and the letter that changed both of their lives forever. It started as an assignment. Caitlin had never even heard of Zimbabwe when everyone in her class was told to write a letter to an unknown student in a distant place. Excited for the first time about homework, she went home that night and wrote about her favorite color and what sports she played, and asked her mystery pen-pal about life in Zimbabwe. Martin had never heard of Pennsylvania when he read Caitlin's letter. He was lucky to even receive a pen-pal letter--his class only received ten letters for fifty kids! But as the top student, he got the first one. He wrote Caitlin back, talking about his siblings and soccer and saying he hoped she wrote again. These letters were the beginning of a correspondence that spanned six years and changed two lives. In this compelling dual memoir, Caitlin and Martin recount how they became best friends--and better people--through their inspiring long-distance exchange. Praise for I Will Always Write Back "An inspiring story that will change your life, too." ―Patricia McCormick, author of the National Book Award finalist Sold "A little miracle of unexpected genuineness." ―New York Times Book Review "Moving and uplifting." ―Award-winning author and journalist Peter Godwin
