Empires of India
Around the fifteenth century, several Muslim rulers controlled regions in north, northwest and even central India. In the face of their relentless aggression, the battle to protect Hindu beliefs and way of living was an uphill task. It was during this time that sons from the Rajput clans refused to yield, leading to countless battles and lessons to future generations on leaving no stone unturned to uphold their honour. The kingdom of Mewar emerged as key in the resistance to Muslim rulers, with the Rajput dynasty there producing successors such as Maharana Kumbha, Maharana Sanga, and Maharana Pratap. They left an incredible legacy, with Maharana Kumbha remaining undefeated in every battle he ever fought and ensuring art and culture flourished under his reign. Maharana Sanga overcame difficult personal circumstances to finally become the first ruler who succeeded in uniting the Rajput clans to keep invaders at bay. Years down the line, when several Rajput leaders were forming alliances with the Mughal empire, Maharana Pratap valiantly countered them in epic battles such as the one in Haldighati. Apart from Mewar, an orphaned Chhattrasal from Bundelkhand drew inspiration from Chatrapati Shivaji and played a pivotal role in the Mughal empire's downfall. In this book, delve deeper into the stories of these determined brave men and their tales of political and personal triumphs as they rewrote Indian history.

Ashoka, another significant ruler, began as a tough leader but embraced Buddhism, promoting peace and kindness, and impacting Indian history. This book talks about how Chanakya and Chandragupta worked hard and made big sacrifices to build the Mauryan Empire. It looks at how their leadership continues to influence how people lead today. The stories show how their determination and smart thinking created an empire that people still remember.

His son, the great Akbar, united a large empire and thought deeply about religion and philosophy. Jahangir, with his untold wealth and his passion for his queen Nur Jahan, a flamboyant ruler herself. Shah Jahan, who took Mughal art to its zenith with the building of the Taj Mahal. And the tragic and cruel fate that befell Dara Shukoh at the hands of his brother Aurangzeb. Empires of India
During the seventeenth century, the Mughal Empire dominated northern and central India, contending with endless battles against various kingdoms. During this tumultuous era, Shivaji was born with a profound sense of awareness and a fervent desire for independence. Determined to challenge Mughal supremacy, he rose to become Chhatrapati Shivaji, laying the foundations of the Maratha Empire. This new empire produced a lineage of formidable leaders whose valour continues to inspire. Among them was Baji Rao I, the warrior Peshwa who led his forces to victory in thirty-six battles. Ahilyabai Holkar, the steadfast queen, valiantly defended her realm through severe adversity, never retreating from conflict. Sambhaji, Shivaji's son, remained a staunch supporter of his father, making crucial decisions to maintain their stance. Alfons begins to share his personal story with his great-grandson recounting how he came to America in 1948 - a journey that started at a parade in Vienna, Austria in 1938 when he too was just 11 years old.As they talk regularly over Zoom, Alfons' memories resurface with increasing clarity, and the depth of his story grows with each conversation as he describes his narrow escapes from the clutches of the Nazis through Vienna, France and Switzerland. In opening up about his past, Papa expresses fear that soon there will be no survivors left to share their experiences, and that the horrors of the Holocaust and stolen childhoods may be reduced to a mere footnote in history. Black and British
From Roman times to the present day this is the story of Black British history.
Within Our Power
In 1774, many people in thirteen of Great Britain's North American colonies were angry. They had been ordered to pay money--taxes--to the government. However, they had no governmental representatives in faraway England to say how they wanted their money spent. The colonists rallied around the cry "Taxation Without Representation." They boycotted tea, cloth, and other British products. Fearing punishment for protesting the unfair practice, some disguised themselves to avoid recognition, specifically when dumping tea in a harbor. Others wrote about it but hid their identity by using an alias.A group of fifty-one women in Edenton, North Carolina, strongly opposed taxation without representation. At that time, women could not serve in the government, nor were they permitted to vote. But the Edenton ladies knew that their beliefs mattered. They decided they would make a difference. Like others, they would boycott British products. Unlike others, they shunned anonymity.Using a "tea party" of a different sort, Edenton's courageous women powerfully expressed their belief in a very public way. One that spread their belief and commitment not only throughout the North American colonies, but also across the Atlantic Ocean. The Edenton ladies' courage still resonates today. They show us that people can join together and create a strong voice that stands firm against injustice.
