The Boy with Flowers in His Hair

Jarvis  著
2026/01/14 出版

"A sweet example of how to be a kind and supportive presence in the life of a struggling friend."--Kirkus Reviews Everyone likes David, the boy with flowers in his hair. He's sweet and gentle, just like his colorful petals. David and his best friend have a great time together, finding the good puddles, making up songs, and running away from the bees. But one day David comes to school wearing a hat, and he is quiet. When he takes off the hat, his bright petals flutter down like butterflies. Now, where his flowers were looks twiggy and prickly, causing the other children to stay away. But David's best friend has an idea--a way to help David get his color back, wielding paintbrushes and plenty of love. Sensitively told and simply illustrated, Jarvis's story invites even the youngest children to talk about difficult subjects in an age-appropriate way--and feel inspired to support others when they face trying times.

Daddy Plays a Mean Guitar

Jane,Yolen  著
Reycraft 出版
2026/01/11 出版

Waaaah, didi-waa-waa, bleep! A child's daddy plays a mean guitar, but it's not the only sound that fills this family's day. From the vroom vroom zoomba zoom of the bus to the hum-hummmm while setting the dinner table, all these joyful sounds and beats have one thing in common . . . love! The powerhouse mother-son writing duo of Jane Yolen and Adam Stemple bring the house down with a rockin' dad in Daddy Plays a Mean Guitar! Little music lovers are introduced to a child's very talented dad who plays guitar in clubs and on big stages. The dad has clearly made quite an impression on his family in this story. Throughout the day, chorusing birds, rumbling buses, and the sound of footsteps on the sidewalk create a wonderful medley of sounds that uplift this melodic family. When the child comes home, the dad is preparing for a show, and the two get to rock out before he leaves for the evening. Daddy Plays a Mean Guitar is a heartwarming story about the musical relationship between a father and his child. Through the vibrant illustrations of Rashin Kheiriyeh, readers will see how the child is so fond of the father's musical abilities and works to emulate the way he is dressed and how he plays guitar. This story is the perfect read-aloud in a classroom or at home as it teaches children the uniting power of music. Jane Yolen and Adam Stemple also offer educators and parents a wonderful opportunity to help nurture a budding musicians' interest in playing the guitar, or drums, or piano, or any other instrument, with this fun and energetic family. The story also identifies how strong a family's love can become through the joyous sounds around them. The author also provides a glossary of terms that teach the reader beginner musical terms, including: Chorusing: Singing all together, here referring to the birds' "dawn chorus". Roll: Like a drum roll, rapid beats on a surface. Run: A series of notes that go either up or down the scale very quickly. Strum: A sweeping action up or down the strings of a guitar or other stringed instrument with a fingernail or pick. Pick: A triangle or tear-shaped piece of plastic or nylon used to pluck or strum guitar strings. (Also used for banjos, ukulele, and dulcimers.) Amp: An electronic device that amplifies sound, which makes a song much louder. Do-re-me-fa-sol-la-ti-do: The names of the notes on a scale. Invented by a monk, Guido d'Arezzo (born 990 A.D, died 1050 A.D.) A-capella: A song sung without instruments.

Fairly Safe

D&d Universe 出版
2026/01/08 出版

JACOB HAS COME A LONG WAY FOR AN ORPHANED KID. He has a mentor, a great job, and has finally fallen in love. Granted, she mistook him for a stalker when they met, but every relationship has its little problems. Unfortunately, for the past few years, when the object of his affection pops in and out of his life, she has refused to share any personal info, like where she's from, or her real name. Nevertheless, Jacob is ready to take their relationship to the next level. Now, if only he can locate her so he can tell her. CASEY'S FAMILY IS IN THE WITNESS PROTECTION program. Safety has to be their only priority. Their cover has been blown before, so at any given time they could be forced to disappear again. A shy young man with hopeful eyes cannot possibly be added to the mix. Now, if only she can stop thinking about him. JACOB'S AND CASEY'S WORLDS UNEXPECTEDLY COLLIDE when Jacob inadvertently helps hide her family. In keeping with their 24-7 vigilance, Jacob must come up with a plan to keep them out of harm's way, because this time if Casey disappears, she will be taking Jacob's heart with her, and his hopes of finally having a family of his own. EXCERPT: Jacob Kent stepped out of his car as he scanned the fair on the other side of the parking lot, his heart pounding. First, he'd walk through the fair to familiarize himself with the layout they had printed out. Then he would adjust their escape route to where he had parked the car. After assessing the grounds, he would plant himself somewhere along the concourse, and watch the crowd. That's how he had always found Casey in the past, and that's how he was going to find her again. A voice came over the loudspeaker, momentarily dimming the carnival noise. "Would the owner of a red ford truck, license plate LOF537, please return to your vehicle? Your lights are on." Jacob tensed. Was that some kind of clue? He looked over the parking lot. No, he could see the lights of the red truck from here. He smiled ruefully to himself. Get a grip, Kent, he thought as he watched a portly balding man ooze exasperation as he marched toward the truck. Intellectually, he had to acknowledge they might have pieced together a bunch of randomly forgotten items into a fantastical story, but emotionally, he couldn't help but believe the items were a series of clues serving an ultimate purpose. If The Herd was here, he was going to find them. Even so, if he wasn't careful, he could spend the entire day jumping at shadows and following dead ends. Like that little commotion over by the edge of the fair. To his over-active imagination, that game of tag could look like a child trying to escape from the evil clutches of-- "HaHaHaHaHaHaHa, WIPEOUT!" sang out over the loudspeaker. His head jerked up. As the pounding drums from the familiar song drowned out the carnival music, all doubt was erased. The loudspeaker was sending out a warning. His eyes darted back toward the commotion he had noticed, the truth clamping his throat. That was no game of tag. That was a child trying to escape a man in hot pursuit. Jacob couldn't be positive at this distance, but it sure looked like Robin. With his heart in his throat, he broke into a run, zigzagging between cars, trying to intercept the fleeing youngster. In this surreal moment, the same song they had used for obstacle course training was being piped out like background music to a scene in an action movie. But this scene was real, where a real menace was gaining on his quarry. Caught in his own nightmare, Jacob couldn't get close enough to help.

Faylinn Speaks Up

FriesenPress 出版
2026/01/08 出版

It is late spring, when the forest floor is greenest and the brook babbles loudest. In a magical clearing in the forest, Faylinn runs and speaks freely with the brook, trees, plants, and creatures who live there. At school, however, Faylinn finds it hard to speak and answer her teacher's questions. No matter how hard she tries to find her voice in class, the words get stuck. Faylinn Speaks Up encourages children to use their voice and find the confidence to share their thoughts and feelings without fear. Through Faylinn, children learn that their voice can have power, especially when they have something to tell the world.

Grownups always want to hug and teachers talk real close. I don't like snuggles or cuddly kisses cuz stinky air is gross!Have you ever had a hug from a grownup and their breath smelled like coffee? Or onions? Or a stinky icky toilet? Some people's mouths just don't smell great! But you don't want to be rude to people who are just trying to be nice. Whatever is a good kid to do about bad breath?Icky Stinky Poopy Breath is a funny, light-hearted book about bad breath, accompanied by all kinds of silly illustrations showing off the different things our bad breath can smell like. It uses humour to teach kids that it's okay to express when they're uncomfortable or when their personal space has been invaded. And it reminds adults to treat children like real people, with real feelings. Because building confidence in children, respecting them, and encouraging their own unique personality is the best gift we can give them!

The Hermit's Hut

Tuula,Pere  著
Wickwick Ltd 出版
2026/01/07 出版

Francis wants his stories to make the world kinder-but people seem to prefer fast-paced fun. Disheartened when his books are ignored and discarded, he leaves town and climbs into the mountains to visit Erasmus, an old friend who lives simply with his goats. Francis builds a small hut nearby, hoping that silence and nature will calm his mind.Even away from the city, stories still fill Francis's head. Remembering his grandmother's knitting and the tales she told, he begins to knit warm scarves, socks, and mittens-and to tell powerful stories by the fire. Word spreads, and soon people hike up the mountainside bringing yarn, staying to listen, and leaving with warmth in their hands and hearts.A gentle, hopeful picture book about peace, connection, and how being together can change everything.
