Jazz and Middy - Lockdown Adventures is a celebration and wonderful treasured memory highlighting the positive aspects of home life with toddlers and the wonderful time spent together as a family. There are so many things built into a day for small children. It is a privilege to slow down and watch children observe the world in a beautiful way. "A hug, a laugh, a smile, a kiss, the little things matter in all of this."Jazz and Middy - Lockdown Adventures shows the joy children have for everyday activities such as picking a strawberry from the neighbor's garden. Children adore building things out of cardboard boxes, baking muffins, and doing arts and crafts. Having a little more screen time than they would, to getting outside to jump on the trampoline and go for a walk down the creek and the local houses to spot bears and spoon villages. Since 2019 Melbourne Australia (and the rest of the world) has experienced a significant amount of time spent at home in Lockdown to avoid the pandemic. While hopefully a thing of the past, we saw communities come together to support each other by putting out bears for kids to spot in windows. We saw families spend a great deal of time together at home and around their local communities, while some families didn't enjoy this as much, others celebrated and adored the time together that they otherwise wouldn't have had because they were at school or work. Jazz and Middy Lockdown Adventures is a celebration for those who relished this time spent together.

Angel can't turn down the money and Isaiah is soon eager to be in such close quarters with Angel every afternoon. Mattie and the Machine
WINNER OF THE 2023 GRATEFUL AMERICAN BOOK PRIZE FOR BEST YOUNG ADULT HISTORICAL FICTION!FINALIST FOR THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BOOK AWARD! Mattie and the Machine is a fictionalized yet historically accurate account of Margaret E. Knight's fight to obtain recognition as a 19th century female inventor (she would eventually be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006). This entertaining tale is filled with romance, competition, and treachery, and features a feisty and brilliant female heroine who excels in STEM-related tasks. In 1868 New England, fifteen-year-old Mattie is a mechanic in Columbia Paper's all-female bag division. With paper bag sales booming after the Civil War, her boss expands the division by hiring men from his old Army regiment, including the mechanic Frank. Sparks instantly fly between Mattie and Frank, and their budding romance has her walking on air--until she discovers Frank's pay is higher than hers. In fact, all the men receive thirty percent more than their female counterparts. The boss's rationale? Men are inherently better with machines.Determined to prove him wrong, Mattie proposes a bet: If she can build a machine that fully automates their paper-bag-making process, the women will receive equal pay. If she fails, she'll resign as mechanic. The boss accepts, with one condition: Frank will also build a machine, and Mattie's must beat his.Mattie's determination as she struggles with the technical challenges she encounters while taking her invention from initial concept to working prototype--in addition to the overwhelming prejudice she faces in the workplace and, eventually, the courtroom--makes her story an inspiring feminist narrative. Daughter of the Tree
Daughter of the Tree brings together themes of nature, spirituality and justice. It is a mystical look at the childhood of Sojourner Truth based on the facts that at the age of 11 years old she created an outdoor prayer house made of willows and gathered herbs in the forest along the Hudson River in New York. Sojourner Truth says in her biography that it was a wild, out of doors life that suited her. We hope that children will be inspired to connect to nature and take charge of their spiritual journey like Sojourner did. Adults who read the book may appreciate the role that spirituality and nature play in helping liberators maintain personal equilibrium. The refrain in the book: "If it matters to the tree, it matters to me" is a wisdom saying as well as a reference to Sojourner's father being nicknamed "the tree". The wisdom saying refers to the symbiotic relationship humans have with trees; as well as the spiritual concept of the tree of life found in Ghanian and Christian culture. Since Sojourner's parents were devout Christians and from the Ghanian culture, Rev Dele imagines how these worldviews may have blended in a way that speaks to the 7 generations

Travelers Along the Way: A Robin Hood Remix
In the Remixed Classics series, authors from marginalized backgrounds reinterpret classic works through their own cultural lens to subvert the overwhelming cishet, white, and male canon. This thrilling female-led Robin Hood remix reframes the legend's tales of the Third Crusade from a Muslim perspective, rewriting its origin's male and overwhelmingly white Euro-centric narrative.Jerusalem, 1192. The Third Crusade rages on. Rahma al-Hud loyally followed her elder sister Zeena into the war over the Holy Land, but now that the Faranji invaders have gotten reinforcements from Richard the Lionheart, all she wants to do is get herself and her sister home alive. But Zeena, a soldier of honor at heart, refuses to give up the fight while Jerusalem remains in danger of falling back into the hands of the false Queen Isabella. And so, Rahma has no choice but to take on one final mission with her sister. On their journey to Jerusalem, Rahma and Zeena come across a motley collection of fellow travelers--including a kind-hearted Mongolian warrior, an eccentric Andalusian scientist, a frustratingly handsome spy with a connection to Rahma's childhood, and an unfortunate English chaplain abandoned behind enemy lines. The teens all find solace, purpose and camaraderie--as well as a healthy bit of mischief--in each other's company. But their travels soon bring them into the orbit of Queen Isabella herself, whose plans to re-seize power in Jerusalem would only guarantee further war and strife in the Holy Land for years to come. And so it falls to the merry band of misfits to use every scrap of cunning and wit (and not a small amount of thievery) to foil the usurper queen and perhaps finally restore peace to the land. Praise for Travelers Along the Way: "Travelers Along the Way is the Robin Hood retelling I did not know I wanted. Deeply researched and masterfully written, here is a story that's not only thrilling, but also delightfully clever!" --Tanaz Bhathena, author of A Girl Like That and Hunted by the Sky "If you love heists, found family, and stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, then put Aminah Mae Safi's heartfelt and humorous take on Robin Hood at the very top of your TBR." --Jodi Meadows, New York Times bestselling co-author of My Lady Jane
Daniel
Read this book, because Daniel: Investing in Family contains information and guidance that is important to you in your own life. Family is Daniel's focus but there are many interesting characters. We all wake up with our own problems. Often a problem seems gigantic to whoever faces the challenges; but may seem trivial to others. Challenges in Daniel's world, in the nineteen thirties, are still present today. Hunger was and still is a problem, even in this America. We have over a million runaways today, and over a million kids in foster care. Sometimes, it seems that people feel too helpless to solve their challenges, that they just need some guidance and the feeling of being loved to get their attitudes adjusted. Expanding his family is part of Daniel's way of touching many.

Conflict
The perilous adventures of a young Saxon boy in 1066.We've all heard about the Battle of Hastings but have you ever imagined what it would have been like to fight in it? Conflict is an historical novel which gives an account of the Norman Conquest from someone who was on the losing side. The narrator of the story, John, is now an elderly man, looking back on his time as a young Saxon boy sent to fight against the invading Normans in 1066.His recollections create an interesting, exciting and at times heart-breaking tale of the Battle of Hastings told from the point of view of a child, thrust into a conflict he didn't ask for or even understand.Expecting adventure, John initially heads to Stamford Bridge with his father to fight against the invading army of the Norwegian king, Harald Hardrada. This battle against Scandinavian invaders is thought to have heralded the end of the Viking Age but was soon overshadowed by the Battle of Hastings just a few weeks later.Hot on the heels of their victory against the Vikings, John and his father join the armies marching south in a bid to see off yet more invaders, this time from France. However, this journey ends in tragedy for the pair, forcing John to leave behind his childhood and become the head of his household.Aimed at older primary children and teenagers, and written by a retired primary school teacher, Conflict gives a fresh perspective on a pivotal moment in Britain's history.

Traitor
Amanda McCrina's Traitor is a tightly woven YA thrill ride exploring political conflict, deep-seated prejudice, and the terror of living in a world where betrayal is a matter of life or death. "Alive with detail and vivid with insight, Traitor is an effortlessly immersive account of a shocking and little-known moment in the turbulent history of Poland and Ukraine--and ironically, a piercing and bittersweet story of unflinching loyalty. I think Tolya has left my heart a little damaged forever." --Elizabeth Wein, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Code Name Verity and The Enigma Game Poland, 1944. After the Soviet liberation of Lw籀w from Germany, the city remains a battleground between resistance fighters and insurgent armies, its loyalties torn between Poland and Ukraine. Seventeen-year-old Tolya Korolenko is half Ukrainian, half Polish, and he joined the Soviet Red Army to keep himself alive and fed. When he not-quite-accidentally shoots his unit's political officer in the street, he's rescued by a squad of Ukrainian freedom fighters. They might have saved him, but Tolya doesn't trust them. He especially doesn't trust Solovey, the squad's war-scarred young leader, who has plenty of secrets of his own. Then a betrayal sends them both on the run. And in a city where loyalty comes second to self-preservation, a traitor can be an enemy or a savior--or sometimes both. This title has common core connections.

Falcon in the Nest
The "Fellowship of the Weird" gains a new member when Bes (the undersized, overstuffed, protruding-tongued hero of ancient Egyptian legend) returns to the New Word, fulfilling a promise made nearly two years earlier. Soon after reuniting with Andrew, Scott arrives and earns his ticket into the Fellowship by successfully reciting an old Egyptian folktale requested by the impish Wizard of Odd himself. The boys eagerly settle in for a night of "myth-story" and high strangeness when Bes finally picks up the tale of the epic game of thrones between Osiris, Set, and Horus . . . The scene shifts to a bygone era known to the ancients as Tep Zepi (the "First Time") -- an age when the world was steeped in magic and ruled by immortals. It is a time of darkness as Set continues to sow the seeds of chaos in a once peaceful land. Mankind's only hope lies in its newborn prince, Horus (the only son and future avenger of Osiris). Bes's eyewitness story lifts the veil on the mysterious "missing years" of Horus's childhood; years spent tucked away on a secluded floating island with his chosen protectors, who nurture and prepare the young falcon-in-the-nest for a cosmic showdown that will rock the cradle of civilization.
