Adventure Awaits Outside
Adventure Awaits Outside was designed to address pressing needs in our 21st-century society which is the increased amount of screen time that youth have on a daily basis AND it addresses the colorism or feelings of "not belonging" that BIPOC individuals can experience in outdoor spaces. Kids no matter their race, gender, or background need to be reminded that they are not only valuable in this world but that someone sees that value and wants to see more of it in the world around them. Adventure Awaits Outside is all about reminding kids, and maybe adults too, that although the internet, movies, and social media can show us different perspectives of life, we have to go out to experience it ourselves. The Creative Representation Empire, TCRE, is a line of coloring books and other creative tools used to highlight, educate, and represent various cultures and identities. TCRE directly reflects the children that will color the books through curated photographs of real people to emphasize to children of color that they are not alone in life, their identity struggles, or their dreams. TCRE is a continuously growing catalog of books and tools representing different cultures, lifestyles, and ethnicities.

Their Portraits in My Books
George Gissing's books, published during the last two decades of the nineteenth century, are memorable for their portraits of women. Only a few women played active roles in his life, but those who did exerted a lasting influence. In each of his novels he portrayed women vividly and with unerring realism. He worried, in fact, that some might see themselves in his books and rebuke him. His portraits of women are warm and human, revealing an essential sympathy that makes them timeless. An important feature of his novels, his feminine portraiture is worth careful study.

The Elements of Dynamic Symmetry
2022 Reprint of the 1926 edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition. "Is design intuitive or is it consciously and methodically worked out? Are there basic rules governing design that, when learned, will facilitate the creative process? These questions have been asked by artists, art historians, and art critics throughout the ages.Convinced that design was not purely instinctive, Jay Hambidge (1867-1924) spent much of his life searching for the technical bases of design. He found his answer in dynamic symmetry, one of the most provocative and stimulating theories in art history. Hambidge's study of Greek art convinced him that the secret of the beauty of Greek design was in the conscious use of dynamic symmetry - the law of natural design based upon the symmetry of growth in man and in plants. But Hambidge, who was not only a theoretician but also a practicing artist, did much more than analyze classical art and its principles of design: he worked out a series of root rectangles that the artist, using the simple mathematics supplied in this book, can easily follow and apply in his own work.Whether read for its historical importance in art theory, for its illuminating insights into Greek art, or for its practical value to today's artists and commercial designers, The Elements of Dynamic Symmetry has much to offer anyone who is interested in the principle of design." The Adjacent Possible
For thousands of years before the written word, humans learned about their ancestors and the world around them through story, passed down through the generations. Art predated the written word, and has been a source of story from the first prehistoric cave paintings onwards. On the heels of Nancy Hillis' bestselling book The Adjacent Possible, this guidebook animates the science of creativity through artists' stories about embracing the unfolding of art. This is poised instability- the pivot point between creation and collapse. This is where innovation thrives. This is the art and science of the possible- A world of continuous creation. This book will: connect scientific concepts with artistic practice to understand the nature of surpriseilluminate the creative journey of discovery through artists' storiesbuild artistic confidence through reflections and creativity exercises Over 20 practicing artists share stories of transformations in their own lives and art, and how they benefitted personally from principles described in The Adjacent Possible. Each artist forged their own path to a life of exuberant creativity. Their stories contain lessons and wisdom on how to find your own path. Dive in, you're among friends!Nancy Hillis, M.D. and Bruce Sawhill, Ph.D. enjoy conversations on art, science and the generation of novelty in the universe. Nancy is an abstract artist, Stanford trained psychiatrist and author of best-selling books The Artist's Journey(R) Bold Strokes To Spark Creativity and The Adjacent Possible: Evolve Your Art. From Blank Canvas To Prolific Artist. She helps artists transform their art from the inside out, operating from the conviction that artistic creation has as much to do with psychology as with the medium of expression. She's been featured in Inc. magazine and The New York Observer. Bruce is a Stanford educated theoretical physicist, mathematician, composer and concert organist. Bruce's life has been centered around transportation, both physical and psychological. Bruce has swum solo across Lake Tahoe and is an open water swimmer in Monterey Bay. Yale: History of an Art School
A political history of the fabled institution and its intersections with feminist representation in artThe first women students to attend Yale University were members of its School of Art, who were present upon the school's inauguration in 1869. Despite this auspicious start, 121 years passed before the School of Art awarded tenure to a woman professor, and 147 years before welcoming its first woman dean. Assembled from hundreds of hours of interviews with notable women and nonbinary graduates, History of an Art School presents the first history of a fabled if frequently misunderstood institution. Eminent feminist thinkers Marta Kuzma, Linda Nochlin and Angela Davis also weigh in on the school's legacy. The voices of 50 years of women graduates complicate an already complicated legacy, revealing the life of an art school careening into the 21st century, speaking plainly to the long and still ongoing struggle for feminist integration and representation in the arts. This sweeping narrative of the education of a continuum of women artists and designers traces its way through the incendiary politics of the radical '60s, the formation of cultural studies, identity politics and intersectionality in the '70s, the AIDS crisis, the culture wars and the neoliberal escalation of the '80s, through to our fully globalized, hyper-capitalized present.

Every part of the body is presented in detail, with easy-to-follow breakdowns of the torso, arms, and legs, and the often-tricky head, hands, and feet. The author also shares insightful, game-changing anatomy tips, many learned from years of working for major clients in the entertainment industry and teaching others to draw the human figure, both in person and online. This combination of experiences and skills make Tom an outstanding author of this must-have book for artists in all areas of figure drawing.
Art Subjects
Nearly every artist under the age of fifty in the United States today has a Master of Fine Arts degree. Howard Singerman's thoughtful study is the first to place that degree in its proper historical framework and ideological context. Arguing that where artists are trained makes a difference in the forms and meanings they produce, he shows how the university, with its disciplined organization of knowledge and demand for language, played a critical role in the production of modernism in the visual arts. Now it is shaping what we call postmodernism: like postmodernist art, the graduate university stresses theory and research over manual skills and traditional techniques of representation.Singerman, who holds an M.F.A. in sculpture as well as a Ph.D. in Visual and Cultural Studies, is interested in the question of the artist as a "professional" and what that word means for and about the fashioning of artists. He begins by examining the first campus-based art schools in the 1870s and goes on to consider the structuring role of women art educators and women students; the shift from the "fine arts" to the "visual arts"; the fundamental grammar of art laid down in the schoolroom; and the development of professional art training in the American university. Singerman's book reveals the ways we have conceived of art in the past hundred years and have institutionalized that conception as atelier activity, as craft, and finally as theory and performance.

Researching Interpretive Talk Around Literary Narrative Texts
Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach integrating insights from conversation analysis, narrative analysis, and narratology, this book theorizes teaching around narrative prose in each level of education, with a focus on a new framework of Pedagogic Literary Narration which emphasizes the practice of shared novel reading and the importance of the role of the teacher in mediating this practice. // With insights taken from a comprehensive set of transcripts taken from actual classrooms, the volume focuses on the convention in native-tongue literary study in which teachers and students read a novel shared over lessons, combining periods of reading aloud with those of questioning and discussion. In so doing, Gordon seeks to extend existing methodologies from literary and social science research toward informing teaching practice in literary pedagogy and address the need for a theorization of literary pedagogy which considers the interrelationship between text-in-print and text-through-talk. Transcripts are supported with comprehensive analyses to help further explicate the research methodology and provide guidance on implementing it in the classroom. // This book is a valuable resource for scholars in language and education, literary studies, narrative inquiry, and education research.
Wild Sound
"We haven't even made it to breakfast!" was a phrase often used by composer Maryanne Amacher (1938-2009) to shorthand her critical and partial approach to knowledge production across the vast artistic, technical, and scientific discourses with which she worked. The same could be said about her own musical thought, which encompassed original presentational formats in existing and speculative media and approaches to sound and listening that conjoined real and imagined social worlds. Wild Sound: Maryanne Amacher and the Tenses of Audible Life discerns meeting points between frameworks for life that emerged from Amacher's multidisciplinary study of sound and listening: within acoustical spectra, inside human bodies and ears, across cities and edgleands, hypothetical creatures and virtual, fictive or distanciated environments. These figurations guide interpretative study of six signal projects: Adjacencies (1965/1966); City-Links (1967-1988); Additional Tones (1976 / 1988), Music for Sound-Joined Rooms (1980), Mini Sound Series (1985) and Intelligent Life (1980s) and countless sketches, notes and unrealized projects. Author Amy Cimini explores Amacher's working methods with an interpretive style that emphasizes technical study, conceptual juxtaposition, intertextual play, and narrative transport.

A New Approach to Drawing
This book, A New Approach to Drawing, is based on thirty years of teaching visual art in a small college in Duluth, Minnesota, located on the shores of Lake Superior. My intention in writing this book is to share my knowledge for the purpose of offering a new method of learning basic drawing and providing a new access point for anyone interested in learning how to draw. What sets my book apart from others of its kind is that my method focuses on problem-solving through the process of drawing. In art, as in life, it's important to understand the problems before us, look at them from diverse perspectives, and come up with the best possible solution. While I anticipate the main audience for this book will be comprised of students, anyone wanting to acquire drawing skill quickly and easily will benefit from learning my techniques. My instruction is simple and direct, with a minimum of confusing terms.

Ellen Dawson started to dive into art mediums as a child but by 1988, then in her early 20s, she got serious about learning more about art. Fast forward to the early 2000s is when she discovered drawing in online applications. Bound and determined to master photorealism, she met her goal and proceeded to master many many photo-realistic drawings. She still draws photo-realistic and picked up other mediums to satisfy her yearning to continue to produce loved pieces today. This book contains many of Elly's favorite photo realism drawings and hopes you get the chance to see them all.
