From Art to Empowerment
A hands-on workbook for self-discovery through artistic expression. In this workbook, art educator and mentor Annette Luycx leads women through twelve dimensions of artistic expression from personal narrative to final exhibition. She encourages women to look inward, find inspiration in personal experiences, and generate their own themes, images and symbols, ultimately discovering what is meaningful to them and learning how to express that visually. Luycx takes women through a step-by-step process using self-reflective thinking, visualizing, journaling, and other creative practices. With twenty-four practical exercises and twelve art assignments, this book guides women in developing self-awareness and personal power through making art. Included are the first-hand experiences of three participating women, reflections about their studio process, and the impact of the workshop on their identity as they learned to trust their life experiences as sources of inspired art-making. From Art to Empowerment is an insightful, hands-on workbook that takes women on an empowering journey of self-discovery through artistic expression. "In the beginning it was difficult for me. Now I let myself. The process has become easier for me. Like I was searching for my own path. That's why these lessons helped me. Because they revealed my way of thinking, my feeling, my path, to me." (Anna) "I go deeper. I touch it more. There is more focus. I go to a deeper level. I saw things in myself that I hadn't realized." (Markella) "I learn, I learn about myself. In all that I learn I also learn about myself. About my sensitivities, my memories, my feelings." (Tina)

Hindsight: & All the Things I Can``t See in Front of Me
An Instant New York Times Bestseller"I can't help that my music shows who I am in this moment, what I'm drawn to, what I'm wondering about. I don't want to help it. What you hear in the words, what you feel in those songs--that's what I was feeling when I wrote them. I want you to see me, just like I want to see you." -- Justin TimberlakeIn his first book, Justin Timberlake has created a characteristically dynamic experience, one that combines an intimate, remarkable collection of anecdotes, reflections, and observations on his life and work with hundreds of candid images from his personal archives that range from his early years to the present day, in locations around the world, both on and off the stage. Justin discusses many aspects of his childhood, including his very early love of music and the inspiration behind many of his hit songs and albums. He talks about his songwriting process, offering the back story to many of his hits. He muses on his collaborations with other artists and directors, sharing the details of many performances in concert, TV comedy, and film. He also reflects on who he is, examining what makes him tick, speaking candidly about fatherhood, family, close relationships, struggles, and his search to find an inner calm and strength. Art Is Everywhere
In 2005 there was as a street performance in Florence that featured a white canvas with a light grey sentence reading, "Art is Everywhere", temporarily exhibited on the streets. The aim of the project was to create a temporary visual emptiness: a necessary condition for opening people's eyes so that they could see the interesting layers of scratches, marks, old posters and parts of the city that normally remain unnoticed by many.Within a few years, it had become a 2 day workshop, where participants are invited to explore the city with new eyes, and were asked to complete small assignments and to document their findings with photographs. This book is the result of that experience, to forget the challenge of defining Art but understand it as a trigger for new and different interpretations of what already surrounds us. It is a meter on how we look at things, and whether we have the right tools or not to decode it. Now more than ever art is strictly related to time. Since Art is everywhere you just have to be at the right place at the right time. But that is not enough. Not only, as Proust said, is it necessary to have new eyes to discover new things it is also indispensable that you are slowing down.See the details.Take the example of the art of Urs Fischer and his melting wax statues. Be it classical figures or realistic persons, everything is set on fire and melts slowly with time. A visitor will not see the same thing as the next one in minutes, one can only see the final horrible ending of a statue if it stays for the necessary time it takes to melt. It's the perfect metaphor for interpretation of art. Where does Art belong? Where does it start and end?Through ingenious collages and montages, the author revolves our expectations regarding the experience of art. A book for young creative minds to get inspired, an instrument for developed artist to reconsider their workshop and the end of borders between what is framed and what is not. Have you ever wondered why our senses become more alert when, say as tourists, we visit a city for the first time? And why it often seems that nothing extraordinary or exceptional ever happens along our daily routes? Is it possible to discover something wonderful and special without the necessity of visiting museums, monuments, or other places that differ from our habitual haunts? "Art is Everywhere" combines science, hands-on practices used in art workshops, and clear and simple language to answer these questions. And raise some others.
Create With Artists
Sometimes visiting the atelier of an artist gives us answers about the methods and stories behind a piece. Or even about the reason it exists in the first place. With this book you can take the next step in the ladder towards being an active do-it-yourself art enthusiast. You can be part of this fascinating project where you enter the minds of a selective anthology of creators as they take you along the process and techniques to transform their idea into your own art. From the famous workshops of the Stedelijk Museum of Contemporary Art comes the opportunity of gathering (sometimes) random materials you have in your house and use them in a way you couldn't conceive before you were exposed to the imagination and creativity inside this minds. Also it will difficult not to raise some questions inside your own head that you never thought were there. This book offers the most inspiring workshops the Stedelijk Museum of contemporary art in Amsterdam has organized for young people over the past decade. Now everyone can do these fun workshops--created by renowned contemporary artists and designers--at home, at a party, at a community center, or at school. Finally there is a book about creativity that was actually made with artists, that does not to tell you how you should do it but actually stimulates you to be creative yourself. This book was missing in schools, families and when young people who like to have fun and to explore come together. This is what museums of modern art can do to get closer to how artists think and work.

Inter-art Journey
In recent years, inter-medial studies have attracted increasing attention in arts theory. The notion of 'inter-mediality' presupposes that each established art such as theatre, painting, and cinema indicates the existence of a particular medium, which preserves its distinct features in translations from art to art and, especially, in its combinations with others in single works. Nonetheless, this field of research is presupposed already in the traditional studies of ekphrasis', which focus on the verbal accounts of nonverbal works of art; and in Wagner's notion of Gesamtkuntswerk. This renewed interest generated new fields of research, such as (a) the likelihood of the arts reflecting common grounds; (b) the necessity of a shared metalanguage; (b) the possibility of inter-medial translation; and (d) the inter-medial coexistence within a single work of art, without hindering the reading, interpreting and experiencing abilities of receivers. In honor of Eli Rozik, Ph.D., professor emeritus, former head of the Department of Theatre Studies, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Tel Aviv University, this collection provides overviews of all these theoretical issues, and tackles the contemporary practical questions that arise from attempts to transgress the boundaries between the established disciplines of arts studies. Considering first the theoretical aspects of inter-art, inter-mediality, and nonverbal literacy, Exploring the Common Grounds of the Arts goes on to discuss by means of performance analysis; dialogues between the arts within a single work; and correspondences between visual and auditory stimuli in musical contexts. It concludes with a discussion of practical examples of inter-mediality in religious representations, official processions, and public performances.

Graphic L.A.
Graphic L.A. is part practical instruction, part guided meditation on the importance of color values and objects in art. The reader is led by the professional instruction of Robh Ruppel; instructor at the Art Center College of Design, Gnomon School of Visual Effects, and Concept Art Academy. He is also a multiple award-winning art director of video games. By reducing environments down to basic shapes and colors (or symbols ), Robh builds astounding images. Robh documents the progression of building an image while referencing basic techniques. By using color with surprisingly bold brushstrokes, he produces images of incredible depth with intricate handling of light and shadow. It is a rare exploration into simplicity without resorting to minimalism. Readers will be certain to take away both a sense of admiration for Robh Ruppel s work and a greater understanding and appreciation for the importance of color value relationships in all forms of art."

Whether you're a filmmaker, animator, ad director, writer, or video-game artist--storyboarding is a skill that is absolutely critical. Art Lab for Little Kids
Developed for the younger set (4-6 year olds) and targeting one of the most critical developmental periods for children, Art Lab for Little Kids is the perfect book for both parents and teachers who are seeking enriching and unique experiences to offer this age group. As in Susan Schwake's first book, Art Lab for Kids (Quarry Books, 2012), the Labs can be used as singular projects, or used to build up to a year of hands-on fine art experiences. Each Lab also features the work of a prominent artist for inspiration. The book begins with an introduction on materials and setting up a space for making art. The lessons that follow are open-ended to be explored over and over - with different results each time. They are geared for children being taught or guided by adults and are successful on all levels of experience and age. They do not result in "cookie cutter" end products, but are a method of learning something new each time they are used. This motivational book stands out as a unique reference for creating fine art with children through finding the student's own voice, marks and style and with playful lessons that result in significant skill building. Gorgeous photography shows different results from different people using the same lesson, exemplifying the way the lesson brings out each artist's personal style. Art Lab for Little Kids is a fresh source of creative activities for families and community groups or will work as lesson plans for both experienced and new art teachers in home school, preschool, and kindergarten environments.
An Illustrated Journey
Travel + Sketching = Inspiration When we travel, we don't want to follow the same itinerary as everyone who's come before us. We want to feel like explorers, adventurers in undiscovered territory. And that's exactly what sketching can bring to the travel experience. An Illustrated Journey captures the world through the eyes of 40 talented artists, illustrators and designers. You'll experience the wonder of seeing familiar sights through a fresh lens but, more important, you'll be inspired to set pen to paper and capture your own vistas. The really wonderful thing about a sketchbook is that it can be totally private. You don't have to have an ounce of talent to enjoy learning how to really see what's in front of you. But lucky for us, the sketchbooks captured here are lovely, creative, intimate windows into each artist's mind. So, whether you're just returning to the art of drawing, abandoned by most of us after childhood, or you're looking for inspiration to take your illustration work in a new direction, An Illustrated Journey will take you on a wonderful trip of the imagination. All you need to pack are a pencil and a piece of paper.
Making Geometry
Following on from his successful Drawing Geometry, Jon Allen explores the creation of the many-sided three-dimensional forms known as the Platonic and Archimedean solids. Based on patterns of equally spaced points on a sphere, these polyhedra have been the fundamentals of geometric exploration for millennia. Many professionals find they need to be able to build three-dimensional shapes accurately, and understand the principles behind them. This unique book shows them how to make models of all the Platonic and Archimedean solids, as well as several other polyhedra and stellated forms. It provides step-by-step instructions for constructing the three-dimensional forms, as well as showing how to draw out accurately the geometry of the paperfold nets. Beginners and experienced artists and designers alike will find this book a source of practical guidance, as well as delight and inspiration which will amply repay the careful attention needed to construct the models.
