Inter-art Journey
In recent years, inter-medial studies have attracted increasing attention in arts theory. The notion of 'inter-mediality' presupposes that each established art such as theatre, painting, and cinema indicates the existence of a particular medium, which preserves its distinct features in translations from art to art and, especially, in its combinations with others in single works. Nonetheless, this field of research is presupposed already in the traditional studies of ekphrasis', which focus on the verbal accounts of nonverbal works of art; and in Wagner's notion of Gesamtkuntswerk. This renewed interest generated new fields of research, such as (a) the likelihood of the arts reflecting common grounds; (b) the necessity of a shared metalanguage; (b) the possibility of inter-medial translation; and (d) the inter-medial coexistence within a single work of art, without hindering the reading, interpreting and experiencing abilities of receivers. In honor of Eli Rozik, Ph.D., professor emeritus, former head of the Department of Theatre Studies, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Tel Aviv University, this collection provides overviews of all these theoretical issues, and tackles the contemporary practical questions that arise from attempts to transgress the boundaries between the established disciplines of arts studies. Considering first the theoretical aspects of inter-art, inter-mediality, and nonverbal literacy, Exploring the Common Grounds of the Arts goes on to discuss by means of performance analysis; dialogues between the arts within a single work; and correspondences between visual and auditory stimuli in musical contexts. It concludes with a discussion of practical examples of inter-mediality in religious representations, official processions, and public performances.

Graphic L.A.
Graphic L.A. is part practical instruction, part guided meditation on the importance of color values and objects in art. The reader is led by the professional instruction of Robh Ruppel; instructor at the Art Center College of Design, Gnomon School of Visual Effects, and Concept Art Academy. He is also a multiple award-winning art director of video games. By reducing environments down to basic shapes and colors (or "symbols"), Robh builds astounding images. Robh documents the progression of building an image while referencing basic techniques. By using color with surprisingly bold brushstrokes, he produces images of incredible depth with intricate handling of light and shadow. It is a rare exploration into simplicity without resorting to minimalism. Readers will be certain to take away both a sense of admiration for Robh Ruppel's work and a greater understanding and appreciation for the importance of color value relationships in all forms of art.

Art Lab for Little Kids
Developed for the younger set (4-6 year olds) and targeting one of the most critical developmental periods for children, Art Lab for Little Kids is the perfect book for both parents and teachers who are seeking enriching and unique experiences to offer this age group. As in Susan Schwake's first book, Art Lab for Kids (Quarry Books, 2012), the Labs can be used as singular projects, or used to build up to a year of hands-on fine art experiences. Each Lab also features the work of a prominent artist for inspiration. The book begins with an introduction on materials and setting up a space for making art. The lessons that follow are open-ended to be explored over and over - with different results each time. They are geared for children being taught or guided by adults and are successful on all levels of experience and age. They do not result in "cookie cutter" end products, but are a method of learning something new each time they are used. This motivational book stands out as a unique reference for creating fine art with children through finding the student's own voice, marks and style and with playful lessons that result in significant skill building. Gorgeous photography shows different results from different people using the same lesson, exemplifying the way the lesson brings out each artist's personal style. Art Lab for Little Kids is a fresh source of creative activities for families and community groups or will work as lesson plans for both experienced and new art teachers in home school, preschool, and kindergarten environments.
Making Geometry
Following on from his successful Drawing Geometry, Jon Allen explores the creation of the many-sided three-dimensional forms known as the Platonic and Archimedean solids. Based on patterns of equally spaced points on a sphere, these polyhedra have been the fundamentals of geometric exploration for millennia. Many professionals find they need to be able to build three-dimensional shapes accurately, and understand the principles behind them. This unique book shows them how to make models of all the Platonic and Archimedean solids, as well as several other polyhedra and stellated forms. It provides step-by-step instructions for constructing the three-dimensional forms, as well as showing how to draw out accurately the geometry of the paperfold nets. Beginners and experienced artists and designers alike will find this book a source of practical guidance, as well as delight and inspiration which will amply repay the careful attention needed to construct the models.
A Visual Guide to Classical Art Theory for Drawing and Painting Students
Eric Mantle presents the basics of classical theory in a clear and concise manner for all beginning drawing and painting students. His book features diagrams that illustrate every concept. Students will see the complexities of color theory and understand how to create the illusion of volume and depth on a 2-dimensional surface. "As an art student," Professor Mantle recalls, "I was frequently frustrated by instructional books that gave lengthy verbal descriptions of visual concepts and then showed small and/or unclear diagrams of those concepts. As an art teacher, I found that my students would gain a clearer understanding of a visual concept if my verbal explanation was combined with a diagram of that concept."A Visual Guide to Classical Art Theory is great for both traditional and non-traditional media. Each page, theory and diagram represents a different tool for the artist to use. Through their use, the artist will find an infinite number of solutions. Artists also may use the book to create a trompe-l'oeil effect in graffiti art or the illusion of volume and depth on the computer. A Visual Guide to Art Theory is presented in a unique, non-verbal format that clearly illustrates the effect of perspective on color, light and shade.

Explanatory text is accompanied by the author's 233 accurate drawings depicting the relative proportions of a heavy draught horse and a horse trained for fox hunting; as well as studies of cows, dogs, birds, and other wild animals. Students of art will find this book essential in their studies of animal and bird forms.

Herbert -- Andrew W. Mellon Professor Emeritus of Humanities at Mount Holyoke College -- the essays are presented in their entirety to allow the fullest possible expression of their authors' ideas.Ranging in tone from questing to contentious, the pieces encompass a broad spectrum of forceful artistic opinion and theory -- from Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger's 1912 presentation of Cubist theory to Henry Moore's three brief essays, three decades later, on sculpture and primitive art. Among other contributions are the reminiscences of Kandinsky; Le Corbusier and Ozenfant on Purism; Klee on modern art; Mondrian on plastic art; and Beckmann describing his painting. Essays by Kurt Schwitters, Max Ernst, El Lissitzky, and Fernand L矇ger, added to this second edition, have expanded the anthology considerably and extended its range to include Dada, Surrealism, and the "machine esthetic."Described by the Canadian Forum as "an excellent collection of carefully selected essays by some of the most significant spokesmen among Modern artists," these challenging essays not only will provide much food for thought for art historians and theorists but also will be a smorgasbord of continuing inspiration for all artists and art students -- whether or not they are devotees of "modern" art.
