這本論文可以說是日本江戶時代《詩經》學的通論，全書分八章，重點在二至六章，以學派為綱、各派的代表學者為目，闡述他們研究《詩經》的特色和方法。第二章論述新注學派藤原惺窩（1557-1619）、山崎闇齋（1618-1682）、中村惕齋（1629-1702），第三章論述古注學派的中井履軒（1732-1817），第四章論述古學派的山鹿素行（1622-1685）、伊藤仁齋、荻生徂徠（1666-1728），第五章論述考證學派的大田錦城（1765-1825），第六章論述陽明學派的中江藤樹（1608-1648），第七章總結以上各章的論點。
