Working with Voices and Dissociative Parts
In this groundreaking book, Dolores Mosquera shows us how to maximize the presence of voices as the way to reach important clinical goals. Instead of being afraid of the voices, or seeing them as a sign of schizophrenia, or something to get rid of, she explains to us, step by step and in the clearest way, how to work with these voices with our clients. Throughout the book, she teaches us to encourage our clients to start exploring and listening to the voices instead of avoiding them; to lower the dissociative phobias towards the voices and understand and validate their functions: to identify alternative ways of responding, and to address the "voices' needs" and missing pieces. By doing so, the system reaches agreements, cooperation and, ultimately, starts working as a true team. The use of a trauma-informed approach creates an effective framework so both therapist and client can understand the importance, the reasons, and the protective goals of the different part of the Self. This helps to keep the right pacing, without hurrying any trauma-processing work, and avoids the reprise of phobic blockages or triggered re-experiencing. It is instead possible to create a relational container that offers safety while "moving forward." The reader will also find explanations of the application of specific procedures and techniques that come directly from the author's experience as a trauma-therapist. Five detailed clinical cases follow the first, more theoretical part. They are, in itself, "a book within a book" thanks to the richness of the clinical material and the precise comments of the author, interspersed throughout the text.

Test Your Self and Those You Love
Mental health is just as important as physical health. For generations, this was not accepted by the general public. To show signs of mental illness-whether depression, mania, PTSD, or another illness-was considered ill-advised with a stigma attached. Fortunately, this is no longer the case, but there are still great gaps in public perception as to what signs of mental illness merit further investigation, and in some cases, immediate action. This book is designed to specifically address this need. The basic test has been used by hundreds of thousands of readers to self-diagnose or provide an initial red flag concerning close friends and loved ones. The book is not intended to replace the need to consult psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and other health professionals but to alert you and those you love to the need to consult such professionals. In addition to the basic mental health test, my coauthor psychologist Nell Daly has added more than a dozen additional personality and mini mental health tests. Some of these tests are just fun to do and others will help you determine your personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses. By adding these tests, we wanted to further remove any stigma you might feel in sharing this book with others. With the first edition which was entitled How to Test Your Own Mental Health, we discovered that many readers were self-conscious, thinking their friends and family would immediately think they had mental health concerns. With the change of title and added tests, hopefully we will be able to reach an even larger audience, though the earlier editions did sell in excess of 250,000 copies. The book you have in your hands will help you and will help others. Read it, take the tests, and share your results as appropriate. During these stressful times, we can all benefit from greater awareness and knowledge related to mental health.
Time and Body
Time and Body promotes the application of phenomenological psychopathology and embodied research to a broad spectrum of mental disorders. In a new and practical way, it integrates the latest research on the temporal and intersubjective constitution of the body, self and its mental disorders from phenomenological, embodied and interdisciplinary research perspectives. The authors investigate how temporal processes apply to the contribution of embodiment and selfhood, as well as to their destabilization, such as in eating disorders and borderline personality disorders, schizophrenia, depression, social anxiety or dementia. The chapters demonstrate the applicability of phenomenological psychopathology to a range of illnesses and its relevance to treatment and clinical practice.

Politically Reflective Psychotherapy
This book shows how clinical psychology has been deliberately used to label, control and oppress political dissidence under oppressive regimes and presents an epistemological and theoretical framework to help psychologists deal with the political dilemmas that surround clinical practice. Based on his own experience working as a clinical and community psychologist in Venezuela for almost twenty five years, the author recounts the controversial history of how the Bolivarian Revolution has used psychology to persecute and oppress political dissidents, recovers the experience of doing psychotherapy under oppressive regimes in other countries and stresses the importance of developing an ethically and politically aware clinical practice. The first part of the book presents the dilemmas psychotherapists have faced in different parts of the world, such as the former Soviet Union, USA, China, Spain, Hungary, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Venezuela when dealing with the intrusion of the political domain in clinical research and practice and the difficulties clinicians have had in dealing with these issues. The second part of the book presents an epistemological and theoretical framework from which these issues may be tackled effectively. The book helps raise awareness of the risks of framing psychotherapy as apolitical as well as the benefits of thinking of our lives as contextualized in our political settings. It draws from several theoretical options that have been useful to challenge traditional clinical theory and include the political in our clinical comprehensions. In particular Latin American Community Psychology, that has developed tools to favor awareness of political issues, has been used to expand the psychotherapeutic conversation.Politically Reflective Psychotherapy: Towards a Contextualized Approach will help clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and other social and mental health workers reflect on the challenges psychotherapy faces in a politically polarized society, showing how the political dimension can be incorporated into clinical practice.

Motivationspsychologische Grundlagen Des Flow-Erlebens
Narrative and Cultural Humility
People from Eastern and Western cultures have differences in their perception and understanding of the world that are not well represented by a collectivist/individualist distinction. Differences in worldview are inscribed in personal relationships and the ways in which people try to understand the "other" in relation to themselves. When people from the East and West encounter one another, these differences are brought to the fore in jarring moments of culture clash. Such encounters, seen through a contextualized narrative lens can offer insights for deeper cross-cultural knowing. In Narrative and Cultural Humility Ruthellen Josselson recounts her time teaching group therapy to Chinese therapists over the course of ten years and illustrates her own profound experience of cultural dissonance. For example, many of her students regarded her as what they termed "a good witch" seeing her as a transformative healer purveying something magical rather than a teacher of psychotherapy with theories and techniques that could be learned. At the same time, she was often mystified by their learning styles and organizational processes which were so different from her own experiences. In these instances, along with others chronicled in the book, Josselson confronts the foundational (and often unconscious) assumptions embedded in cultural worldviews (on both sides) that are manifest in nearly every interaction. This re-telling underscores the need for cultural humility when narrating one's experiences and the experiences of different relational cultures. While narrative is always rooted in culture-bound worldviews, it can also be a way of bridging them. Narrative and Cultural Humility ultimately tells the story of what it means to recognize our own unspoken assumptions to better connect with people of another culture. It also highlights the values and needs that are universally human.
