Proceedings from Philosophy of Love Volume 2 Spring 2019
Welcome to the second edition of the proceedings from the course "Philosophy of Love'' taught at CUNY's LaGuardia Community College in Spring 2019. Here you will find the final projects of independent student research questions explored collaboratively throughout the semester. The contributors each chose their own topics, presenting it to the class for discussion, revising and reworking throughout the semester with help from their peers and the readings for the course. Well-acquainted with everyone's research, we had a "speed-dating" round to interview the top choices for peer review. Some students chose to work with people who had opposing perspectives, while others choose partners who were more aligned with their viewpoints. All in all we challenged ourselves to pursue wisdom together, appreciating the differences in our ideas with open minds and hearts. Please enjoy the fruits of our curiosity honed by a rigorous dialectical process.

The Day Vada Frye Died
Wayne Frye spent two weeks by his grandmother's bedside when she was in a coma. A Widow's Words
Life rushes on for us all, our days filled with the mundane, the trivial, the routine. Until sometimes, for some of us, something big and horrible and unexpected happens - like a bereavement. The author of 'A Widow's Words' has just lost her husband of nearly thirty years. Partly as therapy, she spills out to us everything that has happened, and how it has made her feel. Art and Letters, Love and Desires
Ellen Koment first met Jack Leissring in 1969, when he came to her studio in Valley Ford, CA., and bought the first of many of her paintings. Since then they have been mutual inspirations and good friends. Jack was the collector (perhaps patron) that every artist dreams of, Ellen was the artist that every lover of art hopes to find. In 1995 they were in a French Cafe in San Francisco, where Jack suggested that men, in general, and, specifically he, didn't really understand how women thought. Ellen responded that, while she couldn't speak for all women, she would try to share her responses to art, relationships, and love, any and all things that friends share. These letters, by email, were what came from the conversation.

Love is a losing game
Love is an emotion that should not be given easily, before you give the emotion of love you should be conscious to make sure this person is giving you loyalty, respect, dedication and they are as committed to you as you are to them. Love is the number one reason people get married and love should not be the number one reason to get married, these other qualities should be in place first. If you give love too soon you can be with someone and love them but not trust them. A relationship like that is doomed from the start, there are many that are in toxic relationships that they should not be in. If you ask them why are they still with the person more times than not they will tell you it's because they love them. That's a clear sign that their priorities were not in order. I reiterate love is an emotion you should make your significant other earn first. If loyalty, trust, respect, commitment and dedication are there first in my opinion the marriage or relationship is solidified enough for love at that point.
Orgasm Cookbok
The working title for this was "In Search of the Lost Orgasm" in homage to an album, "In Search of the Lost Chord" by the Moody Blues which played for a year one night in a driving stone-tripped 1970 weekending night, but when I searched the net for the title I found only sex references which was not the part I wished to emphasize. I came up with "Orgasm Cookbook" to indicate a much more everyday orgasmic idea, oohs, ahs and ahas of all sizes and shapes. What is an orgasm? If you ask most people they think only of sex when you say or ask orgasm. But these poems explore the many possible meanings and contexts of orgasms. They are meant to be a bit satirical or at least more satirical than sexual although as with all orgasms you can take them anyway you like them.
