The Magnetic Ministry
Proceeding from a logical re-ordering of the New Testament's two most perplexing events-namely, the 40-day test of Jesus and the expression of approval by the Lord of the Sabbath at the baptism of Jesus--this volume entitled "The Magnetic Ministry That Parades the Pearl Among Rights to the Journey of All Ages" substantiates emphatically repudiating Philo's image of Jesus as the second person of Plato's trinity, citing a wide array of evidence that a Platonized image of Jesus was covertly infused into the New Testament. From the logical re-ordering of those pivotal events, this volume instead substantiates fostering an image of Jesus discovering the pearl among rights, prior to heading his baptism-by-fire ministry. While developing the theme that the pearl among rights--our Mosaic Right--is a catalyst for innovating altruistic and edifying services of justice, the introductory chapter of this volume (Chapter 1) begins building the reader's appreciation for the potential of our unevolved Mosaic Right to equip the edifice of justice with a byway akin to the Blessed Route and an arm that dispenses edifying justice proactively. Further building supporting substance for this volume's most recurring theme of thrusting a rejuvenating rebirth on the edifice of justice, chapter 2 attempts to show how intertwined in purpose are the ministry of the prince of obedient servants and the ministry of the pearl among rights at leading the edifice of justice to host the Blessed Route.Digressing somewhat into a discussion of the evidence to repudiate the ruthlessly enforced and heavily drummed Platonic "believe in 'Him'" calling, chapter 3 of this volume attempts to substantiate why the "follow me" calling of freshly baptized Jesus is the sole authentic calling of Jesus. Highlighted by the evidence that the Canticle of Mary was reordered from the end of the Gospel of Luke to its beginning, this chapter develops the theme of reassurance to all of us who have a tarnished image, citing the baptized-by-fire method of Jesus to attain mutual absolution and to confer a near Platonic image of purity on this and subsequent generations.In a further attempt to substantiate drawing a contrast between the rival callings presented within the New Testament canon, chapter 4 deepens the distinction between the authentic calling of Jesus to experience what he experienced and the worthless Platonic calling not to experience, but to believe. It proceeds from documented evidence about how the canon came to be Platonized and preserved solely in transcribed Greek, to provide license to the subjugating victors to persecute unbelievers and the vanquished Jewish nation disguised as reverence to the Lord. The next chapter (Chapter 5) returns to its signature theme and milestone objective-rousing freedom lovers to mobilize behind the pearl among rights, to launch the journey of the body of Christ into abidance with the spirit of I AM. In the hope of fulfilling your little child's fantasy, chapter 5 introduces the idea of deferring to innocent children and youth to head and be the face of the ministry of the pearl among rights.Rather clearly throughout and especially within the final chapter (Chapter 6), this volume reinforces its landmark objective of equipping the otherwise stone-cold Criminal Justice System with a heart-warming Blessed Route. Chapter 6 further develops this innovative idea of evolving the repulsive one-armed edifice of justice into a pleasingly synergistic dual-armed form, with a distinctly constructive undercurrent characterizing its augmented arm's vastly expanded range of proactive services of justice.

The Vanishing Farmland Crisis
The 1979 publication Where Have All the Farmlands Gone? by the National Agricultural Lands Study painted a bleak future for American farmlands. Threatened by encroaching construction and soil erosion, these lands were seen as endangered--and as the direct prelude to a nation-wide shortage of both food and fiber. The NALS report, to which eleven federal agencies contributed, argued that land-use planning and control must be employed to protect valuable farmland from "urban sprawl." First published in 1984, this collection of essays by a distinguished group of economists, including Theodore W. Schultz, Julian L. Simon, and Pierre Crosson, takes issue with the belief that croplands need governmental protection. Rather, the collection as a whole supports two theses: 1) shrinking farm acreage is not a serious problem, and 2) individual choices by landowners in a free market setting result in better-organized land use than would governmental land-use planning and regulation.
Electricity Access and Community Welfare in Indonesia
This book represents a synthesis of research findings on energy in remote rural areas in East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia, demarcating a localised understanding of electricity issues that are relevant to similar community profiles in other developing countries, which are facing similar challenges. Fighting Machines
Lethal autonomous weapons are weapon systems that can select and destroy targets without intervention by a human operator. Fighting Machines explores the relationship between lethal autonomous weapons (LAWS), the concept of human dignity, and international law. Much of this analysis speaks to three fundamental and related problems: When a LAWS takes a human life, is that killing a violation of human dignity? Can states and non-state actors use LAWS in accordance with international law? And are there certain responsibilities of human decision-making during wartime that we should not delegate to machines? In the book, Dan Saxon argues that the use of LAWS to take human life constitutes a violation of human dignity. Rather than concentrating on the victims of the use of lethal force, Saxon instead focuses on the technology and relevant legal principles and rules to advance several propositions. First, as LAWS operate at increasingly greater speeds, their use will undermine the opportunities for, and the value of, human reasoning and judgment. Second, by transferring responsibility for reasoning and judgment about the use of lethal force to computer software, the use of LAWS violates the dignity of the soldiers, commanders, and law enforcement officers who historically have made such decisions, and, therefore, breaches international law. Third, weapon designs that facilitate teamwork between humans and autonomous systems are necessary to ensure that humans and LAWS can operate interdependently so that individuals can fulfil their obligations under international law--including the preservation of their own dignity--and ensure that human reasoning and judgment are available for cognitive functions better suited to humans than machines. Fighting Machines speaks to the fields of international humanitarian law, human rights, criminal law, and legal philosophy. It will also be of interest to non-lawyers, especially military officers, government policy makers, political scientists, and international relations scholars, as well as roboticists and ethicists.

Leveraging Financial Markets for Development
This book investigates how development institutions created and promoted marketized development financial instruments to increase the speed and scope of assistance by leveraging private financial markets for development objectives. To attract private investors, donor governments agreed to bear the risk in these new instruments in order to mobilize investment during times of political crisis. In particular, this book contends that Germany's KfW played an outsized role in the development of these new financial instruments, particularly in microfinance banks and structured funds, as KfW's unique institutional attributes and strong political support from the German government at critical junctures fostered financial innovation. Using over 70 interviews and a cache of newly released archival materials, this books documents how KfW and other development institutions created and promoted these marketized development financial instruments, and how they have become a pillar of modern development policy.
Authoritarianism and the Evolution of West European Electoral Politics
Authoritarianism and the Evolution of West European Electoral Politics provides a novel explanation of rising Euroscepticism and right-wing populism in Western Europe. The changing political and cultural environment of recent decades is generating an ongoing realignment of voters structured by authoritarianism, which is a psychological disposition towards the maintenance of social cohesion and order at the expense of individual autonomy and diversity. High authoritarians find the values and demographic changes of the past several decades a threat to social cohesion, which has created an opportunity for PRR parties to gain their support by campaigning against these perceived threats to national community posed by immigration, values change, and European integration. The result is a worldview evolution in which party conflict is shaped by the rival preferences of high and low authoritarians. Drawing on national and cross-national survey data as well as an original survey experiment, this book demonstrates how the relationship between authoritarianism and (1) attitudes towards the EU and (2) voting behaviour has evolved since the 1990s. In doing so, this book advances these literatures by providing an explanation for why certain voters are shifting towards PRR parties as electoral politics realigns.

Original and comprehensive examination of Chilean political and economic development since the end of the Pinochet military regime in 1990.In The Left Hand of Capital, Fernando Ignacio Leiva provides a theoretically grounded analysis of the last thirty years of socioeconomic policies in Chile, beginning at the end of the Pinochet military regime in 1990. He skillfully probes how innovative center-left politico-economic initiatives transformed the state's relationships with the country's urban poor, indigenous peoples, workers, students, and business elites, thereby contributing to institutionalize, legitimize, and renew Chile's neoliberal system of domination. Leiva documents how such politics, progressive in appearance, were pivotal in forging new arts of domestication, "participatory" social control mechanisms, and commodified subjectivities. This landmark book guides us into a deeper awareness about the limitations of center-left politics, not only in Chile, but elsewhere in the Americas and Western Europe as well. At a time when far-right movements seem to be growing in the Global South, Europe, and the United States, this book offers valuable insights into the predicament of social democracy and how, as in Chile and in the context of global neoliberalism, it can become the "left hand of capital."

Born in the copper mining town of Chingola, Chisanga was educated at Kabulonga Boys' School in Lusaka and Sir William Borlase School in Marlow, England. He read law at the Universities of Birmingham and London before proceeding to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University. As a practising lawyer in Zambia Chisanga represented both corporate and human rights clients opposed to the one party dictatorship that lasted from 1972 to 1991. Chisanga ran the Chekwe Consultancy in Canada from 1989 to 1994 advising clients (including governments) on international development and public policy. He served as Chair and CEO of the Ontario Criminal Injuries Compensation Board from 1994 to 1997 when he became Executive Director of Oxfam Canada. Chisanga returned to the private sector to serve as Zambia Country Manager for a Canadian mining company in 2008. A year later he was named Ontario's Deputy Minister for Citizenship and Immigration. Chisanga retired from the Ontario government in 2015. In addition to being president of the Masomo Education Foundation, Chisanga is a senior fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto. He recently co-founded a solar energy company whose first subsidiary is in Zambia'.Chisanga is the author of the books, An Election to Remember (1996), Getting Zambia to Work (2011), Cobra in the Boat: Michael Sata's Zambia (2017) and Staying Ahead: Due Dilligence in Residence and Citizenship by Investment Programmes (2018).

Conventional wisdom holds that Congress ended the system's struggle in 1935 by granting the Board a voting majority on the open market committee, establishing its Fed primacy. Yet, this book shows that the Fed's struggle continued flaring to yield consequential changes until 1970, when the modern Fed emerged.Nicolas Thompson explores how the Fed's evolution from a weak and fragmented sprawl into the world's most powerful central bank paralleled broader changes in the American polity. The rise and fall of hegemonic political parties remade the Board and elevated its Fed position, while the wars of the twentieth century concentrated Fed power in New York. When peace returned, however, system agents inherited a central bank that veered from the law, inviting renewed struggle. This process continued into the 1960s, when an ascendant Democratic Party loaded the Board with economists, who remade it in their image. Later partisan choices to launch unfunded wars at home and abroad unleashed inflationary forces which severed the dollar's link to gold. Freed from its golden fetters, monetary policy emerged as a domestic policy realm and Fed power durably concentrated in a new Board technocracy.

The Future of Policing
Policing does not happen in a vacuum. The mood, viewpoints, and stresses of society impact how policing occurs and how it is perceived. Starting in June and July 2020, the nation saw weeks of protests, civil disturbances, and riots that were specifically directed against the police. This most recent round of public unrest was sparked by the senseless, needless, and improper death of George Floyd. Having seen similar deaths of black males while involved with police officers, the nation had had enough and demands for something to be done, were far reaching and involved more than just the black community or a few protestors. An all-encompassing variety of people either joined the protests or supported them. People of all demographic backgrounds, economic levels, and professions resoundingly condemned the actions of the officers in the Floyd incident, even police officers and police leaders. Policing in America needs to change. Scott Cunningham offers advice on a wide variety of policing aspects, including but not limited to, leadership, training, equipment and weapons, government's roles and responsibilities, citizen and community participation, investigation procedure, police culture and attitudes, the list goes on. Looking at policing from multiple angles, he provides implementable recommendations for up and down the chain of command that, individually and collectively, could enhance policing and improve the quality of life for everyone.

When is preventive war chosen to counter nuclear proliferation? In All Options on the Table, Rachel Elizabeth Whitlark looks beyond systemic and slow-moving factors such as the distribution of power. Instead, she highlights individual leaders' beliefs to explain when preventive military force is the preferred strategy. Executive perspective--not institutional structure--is paramount. Whitlark makes her argument through archivally based comparative case studies. She focuses on executive decision making regarding nuclear programs in China, North Korea, Iraq, Pakistan, and Syria. This book considers the actions of US presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, as well as Israeli prime ministers Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, and Ehud Olmert. All Options on the Table demonstrates that leaders have different beliefs about the consequences of nuclear proliferation in the international system and their state's ability to deter other states' nuclear activity. These divergent beliefs lead to variation in leaders' preferences regarding the use of preventive military force as a counter-proliferation strategy. The historical evidence amassed in All Options on the Table bears on strategic assessments of aspiring nuclear powers such as Iran and North Korea. Whitlark argues that only those leaders who believe that nuclear proliferation is destabilizing for the international system will consider preventive force to counter such challenges. In a complex nuclear world, this insight helps explain why the use of force as a counter-proliferation strategy has been an extremely rare historical event.
