'Indigenous' versus 'Non-indigenous' People's Rights in Ethiopia. Political Participation of 'Non-Indigenous' People in Bambasi Woreda

Ingram 出版
2024/11/15 出版

Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Politics - Topic: Public International Law and Human Rights, grade: Excelent, Addis Ababa University (College of Law and Governance), course: Human Rights, language: English, abstract: The right to political participation, as stated under the UDHR and ICCPR, is a basic right of human beings that influence the inter-relation and interaction of human beings. Ethiopia, as signatory of these international human right instruments, the FDRE constitution stipulates the right to political participation right of all Nation, Nationalities and People of the country without any discrimination. However, regional states, like Benishangul-Gumuz, had face serious criticism that 'non-indigenous' people are face serious problem in the enjoyment of their right to political participation. This research has aimed to assess the political participation of 'non-indigenous' people of Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State in a case study of Bambasi Woreda. It looks and measures the participation of 'non-indigenous' people in public decision making and assess the 'indigenous' vs. 'non-indigenous' composition of institutions of Bambasi Woreda's administration and normative instruments for the accommodation and consideration of the right to political participation of 'non-indigenous' people. In investigating reliable data, the researcher utilizes the qualitative research approaches unstructured in-depth interview, key informant interview and field observation as data collection instruments, in combination with different documents and articles. As findings of the study reveal, the right to political participation has been shortened by normative and institutional constraints that range from the federal up to the Kebele administration level. Hence, it is highly recommended that there must be a structural change that helps to establish an inclusive normative and administrative institution which ranges from the reconsideration of 'non-indigenous peopl

The Politics and Governance of Decarbonization

Ingram 出版
2024/11/15 出版

This book examines how, and under what conditions, states - in collaboration with non-state actors - can govern a societal transformation toward large-scale decarbonization in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. It advances an innovative analytical framework on how the state governs through collaborative climate governance to foster cooperation, deliberation, and consensus between state and non-state actors. The book focuses on Sweden, which aims to become a fossil-free state. The chapters analyze Sweden's progress toward net-zero emissions, its role in international climate governance, and how the COVID-19 pandemic affected climate networks. Providing valuable policy insights for other countries endeavoring to decarbonize, this book is a useful reference for graduate students and researchers in climate governance, political science, and international relations. It is one of a series of publications associated with the Earth System Governance Project. For more publications, see www.cambridge.org/earth-system-governance. Libertarian Social Democracy

Lulu.com 出版
2024/11/15 出版

In Libertarian Social Democracy, Wesley Whitman presents a groundbreaking exploration of how libertarianism can intersect with progressive ideas to create a more just and equitable society. Challenging the dominance of right-wing libertarian thought, Whitman reclaims the roots of libertarian socialism, geo-libertarianism, and distributism, offering fresh insights on issues such as universal basic income, healthcare reform, land value tax, and economic democracy. With a focus on radical centrism, this manifesto advocates for freedom while recognizing the need for government intervention to correct systemic exploitation and promote equity. A must-read for anyone interested in blending liberty with social responsibility, Libertarian Social Democracy is a forward-thinking vision for those seeking new solutions to modern political and economic challenges.

Defying the Dragon

Ingram 出版
2024/11/14 出版

Defying the Dragon tells a remarkable story of audacity: of how the people of Hong Kong challenged the PRC's authority, just as its president reached the height of his powers. Is Xi's China as unshakeable as it seems? What are its real interests in Hong Kong? Why are Beijing's time-honoured means of control no longer working there? And where does this leave Hongkongers themselves? Stephen Vines has lived in Hong Kong for over three decades. His book shrewdly unpacks the Hong Kong-China relationship and its wider significance--right up to the astonishing convergence of political turmoil and international crisis with Covid-19 and the 2020-21 crackdown. Vividly describing the uprising from street level, Vines explains how and why it unfolded, and its global repercussions. Now, the international community is reassessing relations with Beijing, just as Hong Kong's rebellion and China's handling of the pandemic have exposed the regime's weakness. In a crisis that has become existential all round, what lies ahead for Hong Kong, China and the world?

Blue Murder

'BRILLIANT' ANDREW MARR 'HAD ME OPEN-MOUTHED WITH AMAZEMENT' ED BALLS 'ESSENTIAL' JON SOPEL 'A GRIPPINGLY-WRITTEN, DETAILED BOOK THAT ANSWERS SO MANY QUESTIONS' ISABEL HARDMAN 'SUPERB' EVAN DAVIS The explosive full story of the past dozen years of Tory rule, from coalition to self-destruction; fully updated to include the general election. Over the last decade, the British people have seen five different Conservative Prime Ministers, with five different missions and five messages to the nation. From the ashes of a financial crisis, to a break from the EU, to a global pandemic, governments - and ideologies - have changed, but Tory power has clung on. Merciless rebellion and the swift ousting of leaders have enabled this, and yet the same ruthlessness may ultimately bring about their downfall. Witty, hair-raising and brilliantly sourced, The Right to Rule links as never before stories of betrayal in Cameron's Coalition, the rifts behind the Referendum, the travails of May, the chaos of the pandemic, the sagas of Johnson, the Truss implosion and the Sunak patch-job. Through his unique access and unmissable inside stories, acclaimed Westminster journalist Ben Riley-Smith's explosive account is essential for anyone wondering how the Tories kept changing, kept revolting - and kept winning. For readers of Tim Shipman and Rory Stewart, this is the first, fullest and frankest story of the entire Tory government. Previously published as The Right to Rule

For Emplacement

Mario,Blaser  著
Ingram 出版
2024/11/14 出版

In For Emplacement, Mario Blaser proposes a new lens for contending with the momentous challenges facing the world, from anthropogenic climate change to rampant socioeconomic inequalities to the rise of neofascism. Blaser shows that the prevalent solutions to these problems-which often depend on intensifying globalization, technological development, and extractivism-only deepen these crises. Effectively addressing these issues, he suggests, might require grounding our ways of being in the specificities of place. Drawing on decades of ethnographic experience in South America and the Canadian subarctic, and engaging with material semiotics, Blaser recasts the fundamental political question of how to live together well as a cosmopolitical one: how to become emplaced with others, in divergence. Ultimately, he presents a political ontology where visions of the good life oriented to the specificities of place guide us through the promises and challenges that a journey toward emplacement holds.

11 Smart Cities

Ingram 出版
2024/11/14 出版

This book discusses smart city implementation in 11 smart cities - Auckland, Boston, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Melbourne, Milan, Seoul, Tokyo, and Vancouver. The cities encompass a range of smart city development on selected critical issues in economic prosperity (future digital economy, smart retail, smart tourism), social inclusion (digital inclusion, digital placemaking, smart health service, smart youth empowerment), and environmental sustainability (climate resilience action, circular economy, smart climate action). The focus is on their challenges and course of action in and around the socio-technical systems and processes of sustainability transition. The chapters focus on emerging issues, enabling technologies, practical approaches, policies and case studies. The analysis recognises that smart city development takes place in a social context that, to some degree, will influence the adoption and effectiveness of technologies and ultimately, determine whether they meet end-user satisfaction. Smart city development is pivoted on technological changes, connectivity, and data, but also on people and government involvement and the transformation of urban living practices and conditions. This book aims to deepen dialogues on possible smart city strategies from the perspective of how people, organisations (e.g., processes, communication networks), and technologies interact to achieve individual, organisational, or societal goals.

City of Desire

Ingram 出版
2024/11/13 出版

In this major open access contribution to Global South urban studies, Tanzil Shafique offers a new way of knowing and engaging with the most common urban environment in the Global South - informal settlements, or "slums".Informal settlements house more than a billion people now and will house three billion people by 2050. Yet they remain marginalised in urban theory and practice, and most projects to improve them fail due to a lack of knowledge of the ongoing processes that build them.Through a detailed case study of Karail, the largest informal settlement in Bangladesh, Shafique offers ground-breaking insights into the productionof informal urbanism through a brand-new approach rooted in deep ethnography and spatial mapping. Shafique explores, for the first time, the many different desires of settlement-dwellers and how these drive everyday urban change. He also offers brilliantly innovative recommendations for the policy-making, upgrading and management of both existing and future informal settlements. Written in an engaging narrative that weaves local stories with theoretical insight, this book is essential reading for anyone interested in international development, urban studies, sociology, and architecture. The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY licence on bloomsburycollections.com. Mission to Mao

2024/11/13 出版

An innovative history of US intelligence officers on the ground and the first official contacts between the United States and the Chinese Communist PartyFrom 1944 to 1947, the United States planted a liaison mission in the headquarters of Chinese Communist forces behind the lines. Nicknamed the "Dixie Mission," for its location in "rebel" territory, it was an interagency delegation that included intelligence officers from the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the US Army, and the State Department.Mission to Mao is a social history of the OSS officers in the field that reveals the weakness of US intelligence diplomacy in the 1940s. Drawing on over 14,000 unpublished records from five archives as well as white papers and memoirs from the participants, Sara B. Castro demonstrates how the US intelligence officers in China clashed with political appointees and Washington over the direction of the US relationship with the Chinese Communists. Interagency and political conflicts erupted over assessments of Communist capabilities and whether or not the mission would later involve operations with the Communists. Castro shows how potential benefits for the war effort were thwarted by politicization, rivalries, and the biases of US intelligence officials. Mission to Mao is a fresh look at US intelligence in WW II China and takes readers beyond the history of "China Hands" versus American anticommunists, introducing more nuance.

European Political Parties in the EU Party Politics

Ingram 出版
2024/11/13 出版

Any democratic regime needs an active and performative party system. Political parties act as intermediaries between institutions and society, articulating and representing the people's interests. Currently, Europarties are largely unknown to the population and are unable to conduct grassroots political activities. Targeted transformations should be implemented to supranationalize European political parties, enhancing the legitimacy of EU institutions and the ability of the Union to represent the interests of its citizens. The mission of the book is to present the challenges (and possible solutions) to supranationalizing EU party politics. To pursue this objective, it introduces the actors interacting within EU party politics, conducting a multidimensional and multilevel analysis of the interdependent relationships between European parties, European groups, European political foundations and national parties.

Electoral Systems

Ingram 出版
2024/11/13 出版

How do different electoral systems work to translate votes into seats? What effects do they have on the political system, on political actors, and on voters? Does the choice of electoral system always involve a trade-off between strong and stable government and representation? And do electoral systems matter as much as we might think? This fully revised and expanded third edition examines the principal types of electoral systems used in over 75 of the world's democracies. It explores why countries choose the electoral systems they do and explains how the different systems function; it investigates the consequences of electoral systems, including on the party system and on government formation and stability, on representation and the quality of democracy, and on parties, politicians, and voters. Clearly structured, wide-ranging in focus, and incorporating an array of visual material - including authentic ballot papers, tables and figures - this in-depth study remains the go-to text for students and researchers seeking to understand electoral systems around the world.

We Tried to Tell Y'All

Ingram 出版
2024/11/12 出版

Through interviews, news analysis, and personal observation, Meredith D. Clark presents the first book about how Black Twitter users carved out a vital space for fast-paced, incisive commentary on Black life in America not found in the mainstream press. Since 1827, when Freedom's Journal, the first newspaper to be published by free Black men in the United States, Black folks have been making use of the media technologies available to them to tell their own stories in their own ways. In We Tried to Tell Y'all: Black Twitter and the Rise of Digital Counternarratives, Meredith D. Clark explains how Black social media users subvert the digital divide narrative while confronting centuries of erasure, omission, and mischaracterization of Black life in 'mainstream' media. This ethnographic exploration of Black Twitter draws on news media analysis, in-depth interviews, and personal observation to trace the phenomenon's three levels of community connection, and advances a theory of Black Digital Resistance that illustrates how Black social media users harnessed the platform to annotate and narrate everything from play to protest to everyday life. From chapters that recognize the "locomotive power" of Black women and femmes' intellectual labor to a thorough takedown of so-called "cancel culture", We Tried to Tell Y'all offers readers a rich exploration of the latest chapter of Black media production. Regardless of the future direction of the platform, Black Twitter will forever remain an important moment in the long history of the Black press and Black social movements in the United States.

Unpaid Care Policies in the UK

Liz,Lloyd  著
Ingram 出版
2024/11/11 出版

This book examines policies on unpaid care throughout the UK since the 1990 NHS and Community Care Act. It questions why, after decades of policies and strategies, unpaid care remains in a marginal position in the social care system and in society more broadly, as demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides critical analysis of key policies and professional practice over three decades and highlights the continuing challenges faced by people in caring relationships, as well as reflecting on developments in the position of unpaid carers in the system of social care. By questioning why this crucially important sphere of human life remains under-resourced, it sheds light on the ways in which care is understood and how policy makers and service providers perceive the need for support.

Union Organizing and Collective Bargaining at a Critical Moment

Ingram 出版
2024/11/10 出版

Since the 1950s, union membership and collective bargaining in the United States have declined. Union density, the percentage of the workforce belonging to unions, peaked at 34.8% in 1954 and fell steadily thereafter. The most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics' report on union membership indicated that, in 2021, union density was 10.3%. Union density in the private sector workforce was reported to be 6.1% (lower than it was in 1890). In absolute numbers, total union membership stood at 14 million, down from 21 million in 1979.Union decline over the past 50 years is due to a number of factors that have negatively reinforced each other. Notable factors include structural shifts in the economy, employer opposition, weak labor laws, legislation that has substituted for union protection, the growth of human resources, and the inability of unions to respond to institutional threats with new and successful organizing and political strategies. But a number of contemporary developments suggest a revival of interest in unions. Before COVID, workers experienced less input than they expected and desired. Because unions are the main mechanism for providing workers with a greater voice in the workplace, this voice gap provides an opportunity for union growth. The voice and representation gap is evident in the many organizing drives taking place in previously unorganized sectors, such as fast food, retail, warehouses, high tech, and digital media. Unions, union organizing, and collective bargaining may finally see a change in fortune after decades of stagnation and decline.Contributors: Jai Abrams, Yale University; Jacob Apkarian, York College; Ariel Avgar, Cornell University; James N. Slanted

Ingram 出版
2024/11/08 出版

USA TODAY BESTSELLER!New York Times bestselling author Sharyl Attkisson takes on the media's misreporting on Black Lives Matter, coronavirus, Joe Biden, Silicon Valley censorship, and more. When the facts don't fit their Narrative, the media abandons the facts, not the Narrative. Virtually every piece of information you get through the media has been massaged, shaped, curated, and manipulated before it reaches you. Some of it is censored entirely. The news can no longer be counted on to reflect all the facts. Instead of telling us what happened yesterday, they tell us what's new in the prepackaged soap opera they've been calling the news. For the past four years, five-time Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist and New York Times bestselling author Sharyl Attkisson has been collecting and dissecting alarming incidents tracing the shocking devolution of what used to be the most respected news organizations on the planet. For the first time, top news executives and reporters representing every major national television news outlet--from ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN to FOX and MSNBC--speak frankly, confiding in Attkisson about the death of the news as they once knew it. Their concern transcends partisan divides. Most frightening of all, a broad campaign in the media has convinced many Americans not only to accept but to demand censorship over journalism. It is a stroke of genius on the part of those seeking to influence public opinion: undermine public confidence in the news, then insist upon "curating" information and divining the "truth." The thinking is done for you. They'll decide which pesky facts shouldn't cross your desk by declaring them false, irrelevant, debunked, unsafe, or out-of-bounds.We have reached a state of utter absurdity, where journalism schools teach students that their own, personal truth or chosen narratives matter more than reality. In Slanted, Attkisson digs into the language of propagandists, the persistence of false media narratives, the driving forces behind today's dangerous blend of facts and opinion, the abandonment of journalism ethics, and the new, Orwellian definition of what it means to report the news.

Mobilization Politics

Ingram 出版
2024/11/08 出版

How grassroots activism transforms contemporary urban politics in Philadelphia and beyond Immigration, gentrification, and the rise of an innovation-based economy are altering American cities. In Mobilization Politics, Stephen J. McGovern offers a new approach to analyzing contemporary urban politics in light of these broad, societal changes. Redirecting the focus from the top-down orientation of regime theory toward a more bottom-up perspective, he contends that a striking upsurge in grassroots activism around issues such as policing and criminal justice reform, precarious labor, affordable housing, community development, and workforce diversity is transforming urban politics and policymaking. Through a detailed analysis of political activity in Philadelphia over the past decade, McGovern elucidates the mechanisms and impacts of grassroots mobilization. Philadelphia is typical of many large American cities with a relatively prosperous downtown core surrounded by neighborhoods that continue to struggle, sometimes amidst grinding poverty and long-standing racial oppression. And yet, Philadelphia, as a site of substantial grassroots activism since the early 2010s, has made significant strides in combatting economic and racial inequality in several important policy realms. Mobilization Politics expands the scope of the field of urban politics beyond the quiet, behind-the-scenes bargaining of regime partners and considers other key arenas of political contestation--such as electoral politics; policymaking by the mayor, administrative agencies, and the city council; and a wide range of activist groups operating at the grassroots. The book shows how bottom-up mobilization has been especially effective when activists engaging in street protests and demonstrations have joined with more established community-based organizations and issue-advocacy groups skilled in lobbying, litigation, and electioneering. By highlighting how this combination of insider/outsider activism has been a potent force for political change in contemporary Philadelphia, Mobilization Politics presents a more comprehensive, dynamic, and revealing way to look at power and politics in American cities today.

Security in Sustainable Energy Transitions

Ingram 出版
2024/11/07 出版

By providing a new qualitative analysis of policy coherence and integration between energy, security, and defence policies between 2006 and 2023, this book analyzes the impacts of policy interplay on energy transition through the lens of sustainability transitions research, security studies, energy security and geopolitics, and policy studies. The security aspects discussed range from national defence and geopolitics, to questions of energy security, positive security, and just transitions. Findings show that the policy interface around the energy-security nexus has often been incoherent. There is a lack of integration between security aspects, leading to ineffective policies from the perspective of decarbonisation and national security, which is evident in the European energy crisis following the war between Russia and Ukraine. This book is intended for researchers and experts interested in the energy transition and its connections to security and defence policies. The Political Economy of Deindustrialization

Ray,Kiely  著
Ingram 出版
2024/11/07 出版

It is often assumed that deindustrialization is a bad thing, confined to the Global North, and caused by cheap imports from the Global South. Although not entirely incorrect, the truth is far more complicated. Ray Kiely argues that the current economic debate assumes too much in terms of causality around deindustrialization, which is better seen as a product of wider changes in contemporary global capitalism. Yet, evidence of a zero-sum game doesn't have to be very strong for this to have become an issue of deep politics, informing right-wing populism and contemporary geopolitical tensions (namely with China). A clearer understanding of the processes of deindustrialization can help in appreciating the political responses and movements across the Global North - and South - and enable us to find better responses to the processes themselves.

Policing White Supremacy

Mike,German  著
New Press 出版
2024/11/06 出版

A former FBI agent's urgent call for law enforcement to prioritize far-right violence and end tolerance for police racism In Policing White Supremacy, former FBI agent Mike German, who worked undercover in white supremacist and militia groups, issues a wake-up call about law enforcement's dangerously lax approach to far-right violence.Despite over a hundred deadly acts by far-right militants since the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, and the far right's attempts to obstruct transfer of power to a duly elected president on January 6, the FBI continues to deprioritize investigations into white supremacist violence, instead targeting marginalized groups such as environmentalists and Black Lives Matter. In 2005, for example, the FBI labeled eco-terrorists as the top domestic threat, despite not a single fatal attack in the United States.Noting that the FBI does not even compile accurate national data on white supremacist violence, German also exposes the continuing tolerance of overt racism in law enforcement, and police membership in white supremacist organizations. The threat these officers pose became clear when at least twenty-eight current and former law enforcement officials were alleged to have participated in the 2021 Capitol breach. With chapters on "The Rise of the Proud Boys," "A New Approach to Policing Hate Crimes," and "Policing the Police," Policing White Supremacy shows how the lack of transparency and accountability in federal, state, and local law enforcement has eroded public trust and undermined democracy. "Law Enforcement's Role in Resisting White Supremacy" points the way forward to a future where far-right violence is recognized and addressed as the true threat it presents to our country.

Policing the Amazon

Routledge 出版
2024/11/05 出版

This edited collection discusses the rule of law in the Amazon and the capabilities of the region's sovereign states to police their territory considering security matters. Comprised of nine countries, including a European Union member, the Amazon region features states facing political instability, poverty, social inequalities, high levels of corruption, and lack of trust by their populations. This context is aggravated by the presence of criminal organizations operating there and shaping transnational bonds. Notably, the world's foremost cocaine-producing countries--Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia--are located in the region, presenting related turmoil and instability. Moreover, as home to the largest rainforest on Earth and the widest biodiversity, the region is an object of concern due to environmental reasons. The protection of these natural resources as well as the traditional peoples living there is intertwined with issues of development, security, and policing. The book delves into questions on the international agenda, such as: how is it possible to sustain the rule of law in the Amazon? What are the states' capabilities for controlling the territory and enforcing the law? How do these states deal with the growing urban violence in the region? What are the capabilities of public authorities for proposing laws and policies, and judicial systems to process, prevent, and suppress different crimes such as drug dealing, smuggling, human trafficking, terrorism, and environmental crimes? The book fills a gap in English-language scholarship exploring the context of the rule of law in the Amazon and the impact on policing activities. It is ideal for a wide range of audiences, including policing scholars, law enforcement and community leaders, and students focusing on criminal justice and the Amazon.

Plastics, Environment, Culture and the Politics of Waste

Ingram 出版
2024/11/05 出版

Plastics, Environment, Culture and the Politics of Waste examines plastic as a distinct cultural, political, and environmental phenomenon. It outlines the intricate relationship with plastic that humanity has been building over the course of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, drawing on examples from history, the arts, and literature, as well as examining the place of plastics in the current health, environmental, and energy crises. The aim of this book is to reveal the complex nature of plastics, from their rapid incorporation into our advancing ways of life, to the reenvisioning of plastics' role in human life and how, through abundant production, consumption, and disposal of plastics, humanity has initiated a toxic invasion of natural environments and human and nonhuman bodies. Bringing together various perspectives from the humanities, this edited collection contributes to the ongoing research on plastics and petrocultures and emphasizes the crucial significance of addressing the plastic crisis through culture.

Project 2025, Christian Dumb Dumbs, & The Republican Agenda

Esme,Mees  著
Ingram 出版
2024/11/04 出版

Project 2025, Christian Dumb Dumbs, & The Republican Agenda by Esme Mees is a no-bull, hard-hitting look at the ridiculousness of far-right politics disguised as "Christian values." It's like watching a slow-motion car wreck as these self-proclaimed moral leaders preach about God while they're really building a corporate-run theocracy. The book breaks down the absurdity, chapter by chapter, like The Hypocrisy Circus, which tears apart the fake populism they use to manipulate the masses. There's also Christian Sharia Law, and trust me, it's not about faith, it's about control. And the woodblock print illustrations? They add a gritty, historical vibe that perfectly matches the sharp commentary. If you're sick of the lies and the power grabs, this book calls it all out, with a side of let them eat crow.

Project 2025 The Blueprint

Esme,Mees  著
Ingram 出版
2024/11/04 出版

An eye-opening expose of the impending transformation of American democracy into a theocratic state. Esme Mees lays bare the calculating plan of the Heritage Foundation to infuse government with radical "Christian" values and dismantle essential freedoms as outlined in their "Project 2025." The Blueprint is a clarion call to action comprised of short summaries of their plans for each government department and explanations for why we cannot trust these unpatriotic actors. Complimented by striking medieval wood print illustrations, and told like a series of chilling fairy tales, Mees' urgent yet eloquent prose and commitment to truth make this a must-read for anyone concerned about the future of democracy and civil liberties. Just be careful reading it before bed because it is a terrifying tale sure to give you nightmares.

Climate Change, Migration and Conflict in Bangladesh

Ingram 出版
2024/11/04 出版

This book explores the relationship between climate change-induced migration and conflict in Bangladesh - one of the most ecologically fragile countries in the world. It explores why people migrate from their original place of land and how the migration of people with a different background to an ethnically distinctive region due to environmental changes can become a source of conflict and violence between the host peoples and migrants. The volume focuses on the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), which has experienced long-standing ethnopolitical conflict due to the settlement and migration of the Bengali people from the plain land of Bangladesh. This settlement and migration were mainly caused climatic events such as floods, cyclones, sealevel rise, and disasters. It traces the history of the ethnic conflict in the region and presents key findings from the field, as well as the dynamics of everyday politics in the region. This volume also highlights how internally climate-displaced people generate violence and civil strife in the major urban cities through their settlements in slums. The volume will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of environmental studies, human geography, migration and diaspora studies, public policy, social anthropology, and South Asian studies.
