Atman

Manticore Press 出版
2025/06/21 出版

The Indo-European era stands as one of the most enigmatic and transformative periods in human history. It was during this epoch that the seeds of religion, culture, and philosophy began to take root, forming the foundational structures that many civilisations have built upon. The Indo-Europeans, with their intricate cosmological beliefs and mythological narratives, catalysed a wave of intellectual and spiritual development. From the philosophical musings of the ancient Greeks to the ritualistic practices of Vedic India, an extraordinary diversity of thought and tradition emerged, driven by a profound curiosity about existence and the cosmos. Yet, much about this era remains shrouded in mystery. The sparse historical records and cryptic allegories left by the Indo-Europeans invite speculation and awe, as the true depths of their wisdom and societal advancements are yet to be fully understood. The period of Indo-European development stands as a testament to human resilience, creativity, and the universal quest for meaning. The legacy of the Indo-Europeans, with its blend of luminous revelations and inscrutable enigmas, continues to challenge and inspire modern scholars striving to piece together the mosaic of ancient history. This revised edition of Atman presents a pioneering reconstruction of ancient Indo-European solar cosmology, synthesizing literary evidence from the Puranas, Vedas, Brahmanas, Avesta, and the religious traditions of Egypt, Sumer, Akkad, Assyria, and the Hurrians. By weaving together the earliest theogonies of the Hittites, proto-Stoic and Orphic Greek traditions, and ancient Germanic beliefs, this study unveils the profound spiritual frameworks that shaped the cosmological and theological systems of these civilisations. The intricate relationships between the macrocosm and human microcosm revealed here offer deeper insights into the esoteric philosophies of the Indians and serve as a gateway to understanding their broader metaphysical doctrines. This work is an indispensable resource for scholars and advanced students specializing in the religions and mythologies of the ancient Near East, as well as Indian and Greek philosophical traditions. It also proves invaluable for interdisciplinary studies in cosmology, anthropology, and comparative religion, providing fresh perspectives into the spiritual and intellectual underpinnings of the ancients.

God and His Ways

Kab 出版
2025/06/20 出版

The sublime advantage of understanding reality by grasping the precise configuration and the relationships of its constituent parts, rather than seeing it as an undifferentiated whole, is similar to the difference between observing a beautifully arranged garden in beds, as opposed to seeing a chaotic thicket. In dramatic contrast, one who discerns the nature of each part in its various aspects sees the subject unveiled before him in its fullness. Consequently dear reader, I have composed this work to definitively elucidate the foundations of faith and service, in a systematic and clear manner facilitating an authentic understanding free from confusion. May every word awaken in you the vision and understanding, so that you may walk among the wonders of wisdom and the ways of God.Ramchal - Rabbi Moshe Hayim Luzzato

The Two Realms and the Separation of Church and State

2025/06/20 出版

"Luther's ideas about God's twofold rule must be recognized as an outgrowth or a mere aspect of his all-encompassing way of seeing and understanding absolutely everything though the lens of Christian theology. Luther read Scripture, learned from the church and her fathers, and completely adopted and internalized a way of understanding human existence and the entire world that was shaped and defined always and only by the regula fidei of the church's true and so timeless teaching-precisely the teaching that was outlined in the Augsburg Confession." -Page 15In this Apologetics volume, The Two Realms and the Separation of Church and State, Joel Biermann explores the Christian teaching of the two realms-church and state-and the way the relationship between them is shifting in American society. The "doctrine" of the separation of church and state is a product of the Enlightenment, post-dating Luther's distinction of two kingdoms by many generations. The separation of church and state suggests that church and government (state) occupy two independent spheres, between which there should be no interaction, hypothetically preserving both from corruption. Luther's doctrine of two kingdoms instead suggests just one King-God-who rules in two different ways: by the Gospel (church) and by the "sword" (state). In the present era of uncertainty and confusion regarding the proper relationship of the church and the Christian to the government, the confusion of these two approaches leads to errors and uncertainties about the status and proper voice of the Christian as a citizen. Rev. Dr. Biermann not only distinguishes these two teachings but also articulates faithful Christian citizenship as informed by Lutheran theology.

2025/06/20 出版

In "Brahminical Fraud Detected," Thomas Maurice undertakes a critical examination of the Hindu religious tradition. Published in 1812, this work explores the alleged attempts by the Brahmin priestly class of India to imbue their deities and heroes with attributes mirroring those of the Christian Messiah. This book offers a fascinating, albeit biased, glimpse into early 19th-century perspectives on comparative religion and the interactions between Christianity and Hinduism. Engaging the Gadfly

Cascade Books 出版
2025/06/20 出版

In 2020, most preachers and congregations were forced into online and hybrid preaching. We had to react quickly. For some, this adventure opened creative forms of preaching--stitches, duets, reels, and VR. For others, it was a season of just getting by--cell phones propped up on books, laptops on dining room tables. We did what we could to proclaim the good news in turbulent times. Five years later, Sigmon invites preachers and congregations to reflect on those experiences as they consider the future of preaching. She helps the reader engage the Gadfly, whose buzzing signals a shift in how we understand relationships, truth, presence, and place in this digital age. Sociologists and historians argue that we are now on the brink of a shift in communication as transformative as the invention of the printing press. No wonder ministry is so challenging right now. Ultimately, this digital age, like previous ages of technological change, presents problems and possibilities to the practice of preaching--and so, ecclesiologically, the shape of the church. What shapes will emerge? Sigmon will empower preachers and congregations to answer that question for themselves through a new media homilecclesiology.

Earthing the Cosmic Christ of Ephesians--The Universe, Trinity, and Zhiyi's Threefold Truth, Volume 5

2025/06/20 出版

This series reads Ephesians within its post-Paul trajectory but considers it also in light of a Mahāyāna Buddhist hermeneutic that is likely unfamiliar to most New Testament scholars. New Testament specialists rarely stray into theological issues outside the Jewish-Christian context, although that context itself is more and more distant from readers today. Academicians are prone to make universal affirmations and claims, and yet it seems that few scholars of Christianity consider the theological universe that exists beyond the bounds of their own familiar guild. And the rare attempts to look East beyond those bounds often result in caricatures of Buddhists and their teachings, much as early New Testament scholars caricatured "the Jews." Even more commonly, such distant, foreign traditions and their theologies are simply ignored, as though the history of the Christian presence in the eastern Mediterranean basin were coterminous with the entire world of meaning. Certainly, one is no more likely to make a name in New Testament scholarship by pondering Chinese Buddhism than to become famous in the field of Buddhology by engaging with a Greek New Testament text. Nevertheless, it is good fun. --John P. Keenan
