Global Christianity and Islam
A Comprehensive Overview of Christianity and IslamTogether, the adherents of Christianity and Islam make up over half of the world's population, and their numbers are expected to keep growing. The influence of these two faiths--and their relations with each other--is seen in politics, economics, and social interactions. Religious identity and aspirations remain powerful and appealing to people around the world. Understanding global realities today requires understanding the histories and dynamics of the world's largest religions. This book provides a comprehensive overview of Christianity and Islam, covering three interrelated areas: historical developments and encounters, the influence of religion on politics, and religious beliefs and worldviews.Wafik W. Wahba highlights key points of similarity and difference and particular factors that contributed to divergence between the Western world and the Muslim world. Exploring the various narratives that have shaped both Christianity and Islam, he argues, is crucial to understanding current trends in Christian-Muslim interactions and their impact on future relations between the two communities globally.Drawing from decades of experience teaching around the world, Wahba clarifies core beliefs that influence the actions of Muslims and Christians and their attitudes toward the other faith. This book demonstrates how learning from the past should help us avoid repeating mistakes in interactions between religious communities.

No Forbidden Fruit No Angry God
Daniel H. Ronis was curious to learn more about the stories of the Bible. What really happened? Who wrote these stories and why were they recorded? He sought out a channel, Donna Somerville, and together they embarked on a journey to discover the untold stories of the Hebrew Bible, from Adam and Eve to Moses through a series of Q&A type channeling sessions. This book contains what they discovered, and it was more than they could have ever imagined. They started with the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, moved onto Noah, Joseph, Abraham and Sarah, and finally Moses. All of the stories, through channel, came to be more plausible than how there were originally written in the Bible and all of the Biblical characters asked about were real or in a few cases, were composites of real persons, and based on actual events. If you have questions about the Bible or are looking for an understanding of Biblical verses, perhaps this book may offer you insights and restore your faith. At the very least, read it with an open mind and ask your own questions.

Love in the Time of Scholarship
Where is the "life" in scholarly life? Is it possible to find in academic writing, so often abstracted from the everyday? How might religion bridge that gap? In Love in the Time of Scholarship, author Anand Venkatkrishnan explores these questions within the intellectual history of a popular Hindu scripture, the Bhagavata Purana, spanning the precolonial period of the fourteenth to eighteenth centuries in India. He shows that Brahmin intellectuals writing in Sanskrit were neither impervious to the quotidian religious practices of bhakti, nor uninterested in its politics of language and caste. They supported, contested, and repurposed the social commentary of bhakti even in highly technical works of Sanskrit knowledge, and their personal religious commitments featured in a language and genre of writing that deliberately isolated itself from worldly matters. The religion of bhakti bound together the transregional discourse of Sanskrit learning and the local devotional practices of everyday people, though not in a top-down manner. Rather, vernacular ways of being, believing, and belonging in the world could and did reshape the contours of Sanskrit intellectuality. Venkatkrishnan revisits the historiography of the Bhagavata Purana to expand our knowledge of the many different religious and philosophical communities that interpreted and laid claim to the themes of the text. While most associated with the traditions of Vaisnavism, Love in the Time of Scholarship brings to light how the Bhagavata was also studied by Saivas, Saktas, and others on the periphery of the text's history. Mankind United
In the turmoil of 1930s America, Mankind United emerged, promising salvation from global injustice and hardship. Founded by Arthur Bell, this enigmatic movement painted a world gripped by the covert powers of 'Hidden Rulers' and 'Money Changers, ' whom Bell blamed for war, poverty, and suffering. Mankind United promoted a revolutionary counterforce: the 'Sponsors, ' who would soon unveil a new order based on equality, minimal work hours, universal employment, and a unique financial system. Driven by the mission of the 'Pacific Coast Division of North America, International Registration Bureau, ' Bell's followers believed that achieving their utopian vision depended on garnering mass support. Set within the unique context of a burgeoning religious fervor in 20th-century California, this book captures the ideals, promises, and eventual demise of one of history's most peculiar cults-a profound exploration of society's yearning for transformation.

The Church of Stop Shopping and Religious Activism
Explores the religious activism of the Stop Shopping Church performance group Since the dawn of the new millennium, the grassroots performance activist group the Stop Shopping Church has advanced a sophisticated anti-capitalist critique in what they call "Earth Justice." Led by co-founders, Reverend Billy and Savitri D, the Church of Stop Shopping have sung with Joan Baez and toured with Pussy Riot and Neil Young. They performed at festivals around the world, and been the subject of the nationally released documentary, What Would Jesus Buy? They opposed the forces of consumerism on the global stage, and taken on the corporate practices of Disney, Starbucks, J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, Walmart, Amazon, and many others. While the Church maintains an anti-consumerism stance at its core-through performances, street actions, and social activism-the community also prioritizes work for racial justice, queer liberation, justice and sanctuary for immigrants, First Amendment issues, the reclaiming of public space, and in an increasingly central way, environmental justice. In The Church of Stop Shopping and Religious Activism, George Gonz獺lez draws on interviews, participant observation, and digital ethnography to offer insight into the Church, its make up, its activities, and in particular, how it has shifted over time from parody to a deep and serious engagement with religion. Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping maintain that corporations and their celebrity spokespeople operate in much the same way churches do. Gonz獺lez uses the group's performance activism to showcase the links between religion, the culture of capitalist consumerism, and climate catastrophe and to analyze the ways in which consumers are ritualized into accepting capitalism and its consequences. He argues that the members and organizers of the Church of Stop Shopping are serious theorizers and users of religion in their own right, and that they offer keen insights into our understanding of ritualistic consumerism and its indelible link to the rising sea levels that threaten to engulf us all.
A Still Small Voice in the Hearts of Women
Eva, the first woman, and Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel, the four Matriarchs in the book of Genesis of the Jewish Torah and the Christian Old Testament: Who were they? How did they live, what did they feel and think, what motivated them to act each in their particular way? Actions that have been regarded as breaking G-d's commandment, as jealousy, as deceit, as sisterly rivalry. The patriarchal culture of the Bible concerns itself mainly with the male protagonists Adam, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and gives very little insight into the minds of their female companions. In order to understand these women and their contributions to humankind as a whole and the people of Israel in particular, the author has transplanted them into the 20th century and into environments that are accessible to descriptions of daily life. Disregarding continuity in time she has focused on the perceptions of the soul to explore their motivations and their following the Divine Plan by listening to the still small voice in their hearts.

The False Prophet
In this bold and uncompromising expos矇, we delves deep into the heart of Islam, challenging the narrative that it is a religion of peace. Drawing from historical texts, the Quran, and "Hadith", this book uncovers the troubling doctrines that have inspired centuries of violence, oppression, and inequality. From the endorsement of child marriage and slavery to the systematic subjugation of women and non-Muslims under Sharia law, "The False Prophet" reveals a side of Islam that is often concealed from public view. Through rigorous analysis, the book explores how Islamic teachings on jihad, martyrdom, and supremacy have fueled terrorism and conflict across the globe. It also shines a light on Islam's disturbing endorsement of paedophilia, rooted in the Prophet Muhammad's marriage to Aisha, a child bride, which would be classified as a criminal act in any modern society. These teachings have had devastating consequences, particularly in countries where child marriage and exploitation of minors continue to persist under religious justifications. From the persecution of Christians in the Middle East to the rise of extremist groups like ISIS, this book exposes how Islam's radical factions have taken root and threaten to undermine freedom and human rights worldwide. "The False Prophet" confronts the uncomfortable truths about Islam's incompatibility with modern, democratic values. It offers a compelling argument for why Western society must not shy away from confronting these realities, lest we compromise our principles of liberty, equality, and justice. Daring and thought-provoking, this book is a call to recognize the dangers posed by Islam's most extreme interpretations, including its attitudes towards women, children, and non-believers, and a demand for the preservation of our freedom in the face of growing religious intolerance.

Hindu Mission, Christian Mission
Offers a new, interreligious approach to questions of mission and conversion, grounded in a close study of the Chinmaya Mission, Ramakrishna Mission and other movements associated with the Hindu tradition of Advaita Vedānta. For some four hundred years, Hindus and Christians have been engaged in a public controversy about conversion and missionary proselytization, especially in India and the Hindu diaspora. Hindu Mission, Christian Mission reframes this controversy by shifting attention from "conversion" to a wider, interreligious study of "mission" as a category of thought and practice. Comparative theologian Reid B. Locklin traces the emergence of the nondualist Hindu teaching of Advaita Vedānta as a missionary tradition, from the eighth century to the present day, and draws this tradition into dialogue with contemporary proposals in Christian missiology. As a descriptive study of the Chinmaya Mission, the Ramakrishna Mission, and other leading Advaita mission movements, Hindu Mission, Christian Mission contributes to a growing body of scholarship on transnational Hinduism. As a speculative work of Christian comparative theology, it develops key themes from this engagement for a new, interreligious theology of mission and conversion for the twenty-first century and beyond.

Activating Social Impact Through Waqf Solutions
Islamic social finance tools have been instrumental in the alleviation of poverty and socio-economic development for centuries. It was time that formal Islamic finance goes back to its core ideals, extending its impact over the entire landscape of economic development. The recent global drive towards a more equitable existence is acting as catalyst for the resurgence of formal Islamic social finance such as waqf. It is hoped that this could significantly contributes towards unified approach to global equality and achieve a better world. Although a significant number of waqf institutions exist globally, the success of these institutions relies on efficient governance, regulation, supervision mechanisms and effective management. Since most countries and regions do not have enabling waqf regulations or monitoring processes, the value and output of Awqaf assets are mostly on the decline. The potential, however, is enormous. Thus, this book focuses on the application of these concepts and some possible roles that waqf may play in the socio-economic development of the Muslim societies.
Inventing the New Dispensation in Zimbabwe
How does a regime, whose members have been actively involved in the previous one, appropriate and deploy religious ideas and rhetoric to cast itself as 'born-again' and attractive? Exploring intersections between politics, religion and economics, this book examines invention of Zimbabwe's 'New Dispensation, ' the regime of Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, and how it has aimed to separate itself from the previous regime of Robert G. Mugabe. Utilizing the concept of 'invention', contributors reflect on how Mnangagwa and his publicists deploy religious ideas, concepts and rhetoric in the quest for legitimacy in a heavily contested political field. The book also reflects on the ways opposing political actors have utilized the same template in their quests to secure power. The contributors interrogate the use of time, theological ideas and religious practices to separate Mnangagwa's regime from Mugabe's. This book provides insight into how religious rhetoric is used not only to gain, but also to contest legitimacy in Zimbabwe's political sphere.
Cultivating Transformative Reconciliation
Are Truth and Reconciliation Commission processes enough to achieve reconciliation? This volume discusses issues that arise once the task of reconciliation emanates from the limited scope of a specific Truth and Reconciliation Commission and into the larger society and political system that originated it. Scholars spanning several research fields, from law to history to theology, discuss how transformative reconciliation can be cultivated in a society, using decolonization and other perspectives, along three lines: by specifying transformative issues and processes in law and politics, by criticizing historical perspectives on the past and its concepts as deliberations of the status quo, and by instilling the inherent dynamics of truth and reconciliation processes as permanent features within broader society. The volume embarks on an investigation of the Norwegianization policy, a historical framework that brought injustices upon minority groups, such as the Sami and Kvens (Norwegian Finns) in Norway, and parallel groups in Sweden and Finland. It extends its exploration to analogous unjust policies in South Africa, Canada, and various other contexts. Within the complex web of cultural, social, political, and economic struggles stemming from colonial policies, the roles of religion, politics, research institutions, and civil society are critically examined.
The mirror of judaism
Jews are scattered in all countries of the world, although they reside mainly in countries of European origin. Most of them are of Ashkenazi origin, i.e. those from Central and Eastern Europe who left in successive waves from the end of the 19th century onwards. A minority, also spread throughout the world, comes from the Mediterranean basin: these are the "Sephardic" Jews. But there are also black Jews in Ethiopia called Falashas, as well as Jews in India and China, who also claim to be "perfectly integrated". So Jews are not a race. Judaism is not a religion either - or not only - since many Jews declare themselves atheists and do not feel any less Jewish for that. Particularly the Marxist Jews, who formed the leading elite of all communist movements in Western countries. They were fanatical militant atheists, faithful followers of the doctrine instituted by one of their own: Karl Marx. In fact, it is strictly impossible to define Jewish identity without explaining the "mission" of the "chosen people" on this earth. Everything becomes simpler when one understands the political-religious project inherent in Judaism and which concerns "all humanity". However, it was Freudian psychoanalysis that allowed us to get to the heart of the problem, revealing to us the dark secret of the Jewish community. All we had to do was to read with a mirror.
Lived Mission in 21st Century Britain
Nearly 30 years after South African missiologist David Bosch explored what he called elements of an emerging ecumenical missionary paradigm Lived Mission in 21st Century Britain propose that there is still work to be done ecumenically for missiology to inhabit rightfully its role as critical friend, crosser of boundaries, advocate for justice and intellectual ankle biter. Bringing together a unique array of contributors, the book considers what mission as practice looks like both through the eyes of those who are well established as theologians and reflective practitioners and those who are working on the ground and have written little on their daily lived experience. Chapter authors include Jan Nowotnik, Graham Adams, Shemil Mathew, Timothy Boniface Carroll, Bisi Adenekan, Elizabeth Joy, Heather Major, Tom Hackett, James Woodward, Raj Bhara Patta, Paul Weller, Niall Cooper, Lisa Adjei, Shermara Fletcher and Anupama Ranawana
Zoroastrianism - The Divine Light
Zoroastrianism - The Divine LightIn the eternal battle between light and darkness, Zoroastrianism: The Divine Light guides the reader on a path of self-discovery and spiritual renewal, unveiling the mysteries of the ancient religion of Zoroaster. Within its pages, the book explores the role of Ahura Mazda, a symbol of order and wisdom, against Angra Mainyu, the essence of chaos and destruction-opposing forces that coexist both in the cosmos and in the heart of every human being.Through purification rituals, deep meditations, and ancestral ceremonies, this work reveals the power of the sacred fire, the physical manifestation of the "Divine Light" that warms, illuminates, and protects. More than a religious practice, it is a code of life that values asha (truth and universal order) and challenges each individual to live with righteousness and integrity. Each ritual and practice described invites the reader to recognize the sacred within themselves and the world around them, inspiring a journey of personal transformation that aligns the inner self with the cosmic light.Zoroastrianism: The Divine Light is a portal for those seeking a deeper understanding of life and the universe. By honoring purity, embracing compassion, and cultivating spiritual clarity, each reader is called to be a guardian of the light, keeping alive the promise of a renewed world where order triumphs over chaos.

New Zealand Harvest Time
In November and December 2019, I had a recurring dream. God was flying me over New Zealand. The islands were covered with a lush, dark green. I saw a reverse "C" curved coastal area on the north island that was highlighted yellow. I identified this later as Whanganui and Patea. The land of New Zealand was ready for harvest. Workers needed to be sent out. God wanted me to go and share this vision and encouragement. These are the stories. . . so far and the adventures with God and the lovely Kiwis and visitors. God is moving in Aotearoa May you be spurred onto good deeds.
Tamil Temples
Since the middle of the 1990s, Tamil migrants have built Saiva temples. These are based on the pattern of their South Indian and Sri Lankan homelands but with significant modifications, transformations and altered functions resulting from new circumstances and pressures to adapt to the status of an immigrant. Traditionally confined to South Asia, Hinduism is being spread world-wide by modern migration movements .As the world's third largest religious community after Christianity and Islam, Hinduism is currently in the process of developing from a folk religion into a world religion. It is emigrant Hinduism which is primarily responsible for this epochal change. The religious metamorphosis is not taking place in India itself, but overseas. This makes expat-Hinduism an important subject of research for Indologists. The comparison of Hinduism abroad with original Hinduism in India and Sri Lanka enables predictions about possible development opportunities in the home countries. In their book Konrad and Marion Meisig offer sketches of thirty-three Tamil Saiva temples in India, Sri Lanka, Germany, Canada, Great Britain and Mauritius. These sketches are based on four categories of temples, depending on whether their principal deity is Ganesa, Muru- gan, a goddess (Devi) or Siva. There are three methods of presentation: text, picture and ground plan. All three are equally important. This combination will convey the comprehensive religious- historical information
Shaykh Abdul Qādir Jilāni Life and Teachings
In Shaykh Abdul Qādir Jilāni: Life and Teachings, Abdul Kader Choughley, a reputed South African scholar, with over a dozen classics published in various fields of Islamic studies, delves deep into the life and teachings of the medieval Sufi master par excellence, Abdul Qādir Jilāni (1077-1166). The Shaykh is widely known in the Muslim world as Muhiyuddin (reviver of the religion), denoting his enormous contribution to the revival of the true spirit of Islam and its teachings in the crucial post-classical age of Islam, by freeing Sufism from superstitious and syncretic practices, thus making it in accordance with the teachings of the Qur'ān and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The eponym of the Qādiriyya, one of the oldest Sufi orders, Shaykh Jilāni was also an insightful jurist, author, deeply involved himself in the quest for justice and building of social and political system based on the principles of Islam. Choughley's study, deeply analytical and objective, covers all these multifaceted aspects of the Shaykh's life, along with introductory analyses of his works such as Futuh Al-Ghaib (Secrets of the Unseen), Al-Fatḥ ar-Rabbānī (The Sublime Revelation), Ghunyat al-Ṭālibin (Treasure for Seekers) and Jila' Al-Khatir (The Purification of heart). A very unique feature of the volume is a detailed study of Tafsir Jilāni, the manuscript of which was found approximately eight hundred years after the Shaykh's death. Abdul Kader Choughley, the author of the volume, has contributed enormously to the revival of South Asian Muslim scholarship, during the past decade or so, with several valuable studies on Islam in South Asia, focusing on Islamic revivalism. And he deserves accolades for his insightful works such as Fazlur Rahman Ansari Aligarh Years: 1933-1947, Tradition of Tafsir (Qur'ānic Exegesis) in the Indian Subcontinent and the two-volume Dr Ansari Series: Moral and Spiritual Transformation in Islam (Selected Writings and Lectures, Vol.1), Moral and Spiritual Transformation in Islam (Muhammad Fazlur Rahman Ansari's Lectures in South Africa: Reflections, Vol. 2), published by Tawasul International, Rome, 2024. One of Ansari's works, Islam: An Introduction (2019), edited by Choughley, has been recently translated into Portuguese. An upcoming work, The Qur'ānic Revelation, is an overview of Dr Ansari's comprehensive study in the genre of Quranic studies.
