Ingram 出版

Growing Up Lonely

J W,Freiberg  著
Ingram 出版

Growing Up Lonely is derived from papers presented at the 2018 symposium, "Loneliness and the Power of Permanency," attended by more than four hundred mental health professionals and sponsored by The Home for Little Wanderers, the United States' first child social welfare agency, founded in 1799.With insights aimed at both professional clinicians and the general public, the book features papers by Harvard Medical School psychiatry professors Jacqueline Olds and Richard Schwartz (coauthors of The Lonely American: Drifting Apart in the Twenty-First Century) and psychiatrist Amy Banks (author of Wired to Connect: The Surprising Link between Brain Science and Strong, Healthy Relationships). In addition, the book reproduces the story that sparked the idea of the symposium, "The Loneliest Boy," which first appeared in J. W. Freiberg's book Four Seasons of Loneliness, as well as a new work by Freiberg, who has been called "the Oliver Sacks of law." Freiberg again uses a story format to depict law cases that illustrate the nature of the misconnections between today's children and their parents that cause so many to begin life with a lonely trek through a dark and stressful childhood.

Psychotherapy After Kohut

Ronald R,Lee  著
Routledge 出版

Hailed as "a superb textbook aimed at introducing psychoanalytic self psychology to students of psychotherapy" (Robert D. Stolorow), Psychotherapy After Kohut is unique in its grasp of the theoretical, clinical, and historical grounds of the emergence of this new psychotherapy paradigm. Lee and Martin acknowledge self psychology's roots in Freud's pioneering clinical discoveries and go on to document its specific indebtedness to the work of Sandor Ferenczi and British object relations theory. Proceeding to readable, scholarly expositions of the principal concepts introduced by Heinz Kohut, the founder of self psychology, they skillfully explore the further blossoming of the paradigm in the decade following Kohut's death. In tracing the trajectory of self psychology after Kohut, Lee and Martin pay special attention to the impact of contemporary infancy research, intersubjectivity theory, and recent empirical and clinical findings about affect development and the meaning and treatment of trauma.

Free to Learn

Peter,Gray  著
Basic Books 出版

A leading expert in childhood development makes the case for why self-directed learning -- "unschooling" -- is the best way to get kids to learn. "All kids love learning. Most don't love school. That's a disconnect we've avoided discussing--until this lightning bolt of a book. If you've ever wondered why your curious kid is turning into a sullen slug at school, Peter Gray's Free to Learn has the answer. He also has the antidote." --Lenore Skenazy, author of Free-Range Kids In Free to Learn, developmental psychologist Peter Gray argues that in order to foster children who will thrive in today's constantly changing world, we must entrust them to steer their own learning and development. Drawing on evidence from anthropology, psychology, and history, he demonstrates that free play is the primary means by which children learn to control their lives, solve problems, get along with peers, and become emotionally resilient. A brave, counterintuitive proposal for freeing our children from the shackles of the curiosity-killing institution we call school, Free to Learn suggests that it's time to stop asking what's wrong with our children, and start asking what's wrong with the system. It shows how we can act--both as parents and as members of society--to improve children's lives and to promote their happiness and learning.

Human Motor Behavior

Psychology 出版

Why should anyone be interested in studying motor skills? This book is based on the contrary belief that the determinants of motor skill and the conjoint problems of how movements are coordinated and controlled are fundamentally important to anyone concerned with understanding human behavior. This includes psychologists, but applies even more especially to other disciplines-such as physical education and kinesiology-for which the subject of movement is particularly germane. In fact, this book is written primarily for undergraduates in kinesiology and physical education as well as psychology, and it may also be of interest to students in areas such as physical therapy, engineering and computer science.
